If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/2/14

It was a lazy Saturday here at my house, and Sunday won’t be much better—although I’m determined to get the living room vacuumed before we start cooking for the big game. There’s not a lot on tonight because of the Super Bowl, but we do have a few picks for you, so check out our recommendations. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

brooklyn9922smallI was thrilled that Brooklyn Nine-Nine got the nod to air after the Super Bowl…but then I found out last week that it was airing second, after a new episode of New Girl. Color me officially ticked off. My pick is still the new ep of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, simply because I love this show to pieces, and it deserves the top spot. On the last new episode, Terry was officially back to work in the field for the first time, charged with busting up a steroid ring. Jake got scared for him when he watched Terry with his daughters, and seeing him try to protect Terry was hysterical. Meanwhile, Rosa and Santiago half-assed protecting Gina after Gina’s apartment was broken into, but in the end, they let her know how much they cared after they realized just how scared she really was.

On tonight’s episode, “Operation: Broken Feather,” Jake and Santiago investigate a string of hotel robberies together, but Jake turns on her when he finds out she may leave the Nine-Nine to work in the Special Crimes unit with “The Vulture” (guest star Dean Winters). Meanwhile Captain Holt and Sergeant Jeffords strategize to make the precinct more efficient. Fred Armisen & Joe Thiesmann also guest star.

See if Santiago decides to stay at the Nine-Nine tonight on FOX at 11/10c (or whenever football & New Girl are over).

I’ll also be watching Chopped & Cutthroat Kitchen.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/20/14

Looks like there’s another deep freeze headed towards my town this week, and while I love winter, I am so over it. So while the wind and snow beat at my window, I’m going to bunker down and watch some great TV. Let’s see what we’re all recommending.

Megan’s Choice #1

rickandmorty120smallI know it’s rare for me to suggest that you watch an animated show, but Rick and Morty is one that’s worth your time. It’s the combination of great characters and hilarious writing. To be honest, I’ve only seen a few episodes, and mostly thanks to my teenage son, but when I was asked to interview Justin Roiland (Co-Creator, Executive Producer, and the voice of both Rick and Morty), I got a chance to delve deeper into the show. What I found was a reason to giggle and escape reality. Every episode is its own individual story, and the series has little to no continuity, with the episodes being spins on classic movies/shows, tying back into the show’s original muse of Back to the Future and the legendary characters of Doc Brown and Marty McFly. Last week’s episode was called “M. Night Shyam-Aliens!,” and it really twisted the limits of hilarious, but dark. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t be tuning in, even if you haven’t seen any episodes, because you won’t have missed a thing. I’m looking forward to some upcoming episodes based on Something Wicked This Way Comes.

On tonight’s episode, “Meseeks and Destroy,” take a trip through the most boring alternate universe these creators can imagine.

To get ready for tonight’s episode, check out my interview with the awesome Justin Roiland, and then tune in to Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) tonight at 10:30/9:30c.
