If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/13/12

Wow… The last few days have been absolutely cray-cray for renewals! Maybe it’s just me, but a lot more shows seem to have been renewed this year than I can remember in previous years. A handful had already been canceled, and there were obviously already some (Chuck, House, Desperate Housewives etc) that were ending this season completely. We’re waiting to hear about a dozen shows, give or take a few, and aside from a couple of cancellations, there haven’t been huge disappointments. I know fans of GCB, The Secret Circle, & Missing especially were shocked and disappointed, but there was tons of great news, as well, such as a full 22-episode renewal order for Happy Endings and renewals (even with shortened seasons) of most of the NBC Thursday comedies. To keep updated easily on what has and hasn’t been renewed, check out TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard. Now… On to what we think you should be watching at the start of this BUSY week of finales! (Oh, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mom stand-ins out there!)

Like I mentioned the other day, I’m a fiend for cooking competition shows on Food Network especially, and one of the biggest and most fun is Food Network Star, which premieres tonight. Normally, the competitors are split into teams but there are no coaches. This year, the show is switching things up a LOT. Not only will the group be split into three teams, but each team will have a “coach.” In the past, Bobby Flay & Giada De Laurentiis have been judges on the show, but this season, they have been joined by Alton Brown, and the three of them will each be coaching a team to success on camera and in the kitchen. I think it will be a VERY interesting change-up to the show and should make for some fun times.

I’m not sure who I want to win – which competitor or which judge. lol I do recognize at least one of the contestants. Michele Ragussis was a competitor on Chopped and competed on 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, which she and her teammate won. I think she’ll be a fierce competitor for Bobby Flay. I guess we’ll see if her being somewhat known on Food Network already gives her an advantage or a disadvantage among the other competitors. You can tweet along with the show and show your support for your favorite judge & team with the hashtags: #Star (for the show), and for the judges, #TeamAlton, #TeamBobby, or #TeamGiada.

On tonight’s 2-hour premiere, “Impossible Beginnings,” mentors Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, and Giada De Laurentiis welcome 15 new hopefuls to join their teams. Chef Robert Irvine challenges the finalists to creat pop-up restaurants with a small budget and a limited amount of time.

Don’t miss the excitement tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Food Network Star @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’m also going to be watching the Desperate Housewives finale, the series premiere of Invention Hunters, & the champions competition on Cupcake Wars.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/6/12

This week begins the parade of season finales, although realistically, it’s not the end of the world as much as normal because there are so many new shows to fill the void, my TV will be almost as busy. Let’s take a look at what you should be watching tonight.

Megan’s Choice

GCB has brought a whole new level of devious, delicious joy to my life. These women are seriously some of the coolest, vindictive, sexy, and awesome characters on television today. I love the whole reformed mean girl idea, but I also love how Amanda still has her bitch side in her when she needs it. The fact that we finally saw all the women working together for the greater good last week was awesome. I loved the all girls barbeque team, and I particularly enjoyed watching them kick some pompous male ass.

On tonight’s season finale, “Revelation,” when Carlene takes the GCBs down to unincorporated Juarez for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Condos for Christian Living, the GCBs find themselves in danger. Meanwhile, Amanda’s suspicions regarding Luke lead to a surprising discovery about Ripp.

To see where our favorite bitches are left standing at the end of this season, tune in to ABC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of GCB @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording NYC 22, The Amazing Race, Harry’s Law, Once Upon a Time, & Desperate Housewives.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/29/12

It’s the start of a new week, but thankfully, it’s still the weekend, which means we can sit back and relax tonight and watch all the great new TV. Check out what we think you should be watching tonight!

Tonight is the 2-hour season finale of A&E’s Breakout Kings. It’s been a great season. We got hit with Charlie’s death at the beginning, and all season, the team has been dealing with the fallout. Ray got his badge back and is in charge now, which is great. I liked him more than I liked Charlie because he was an obviously flawed man who was trying to make things right. Last episode was crazy good. Lloyd got his hopes up about the pen Juliann gave him, but she told him she just thinks of him as a good friend. I’m kind of pissed at her because instead of giving him a pen, she should have just given him nothing or flat out told him. Because of that, Lloyd was all too happy to get out of the office to go find the clue Damian left him…which ended up getting him kidnapped. Damian forced him to play cards, and when Lloyd won, rather than letting the girl go like he’d told Lloyd he would, he killed her. Lloyd barely reacted when Juliann finally got to him, but he told Ray he quit at the end of the episode. Nooooo. I love Lloyd. I’ll be sad if he doesn’t come back next season!

Erica learned that the “club” guy from downstairs had been using her after the guy she got an address for turned up beaten in his home and the club guy’s office was empty. I KNEW from the very first episode that the guy was bad news and not what he seemed. Erica is PISSED off. Oh man… lol And then on the case front, it dealt with ex-soldiers who had been mislead about who they were taking out on a mission and when they learned the truth, they started getting killed. The guy who escaped prison knew that and was determined to out the people responsible. I was sad that Shea (interesting that his grandfather had ties to the IRA, yeah??) crushed up the evidence the escapee had given him for safekeeping. I mean, I get it…everyone who came in contact with it was being killed…but still. 🙁 Tonight’s season finale looks INSANE. It’s going to be scary and thrilling, all at once.

On tonight’s first hour, “Freakshow,” Max Doyle was an orphan raised in the circus with an ax to grind. All his life Max has felt a lack of belonging, a feeling that was only partially assuaged by turning himself into a premiere escape artist. It’s that talent that the Breakout Kings are up against as they track Max.

This in tonight’s second hour, “Served Cold,” Damien has upped the psychotic ante with the Breakout Kings, and now it’s personal. Still barred from working on the Damien case, the Kings do what they need to do to bring their nemesis down. In the end, the team will be faced with an impossible choice.

Don’t miss the 2-hour season finale tonight on A&E starting at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Breakout Kings @ Clicker.

I’m also going to be watching/DVRing Cupcake Wars, Chopped All Stars, & NYC 22.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/22/12

It’s the start of a new week. That’s always a mixed blessing for me. On a good note, it means new TV. On a bad note, it means work for my husband, and it also means we’re one week closer to the end of this school year for my teenager and one week closer to the end of the current TV season. So…yeah. i’m not sure whether or not to be happy that tonight is Sunday, but it does mean we have some recommendations on what we think you should be watching tonight. 😉

I was VERY skeptical going into last week’s NYC 22. To me, it seemed to be basically the same premise as one of my very favorite shows, Rookie Blue. I watched, though, albeit grudgingly, just in case. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not as good, but it’s different enough that I don’t feel like it’s trying to COPY it. I like the premise that each of the rookies comes from a background that is going to really impact their career as a cop – whether it’s the girl who comes from a family of criminals, the ex-basketball player who is recognized everywhere, or the Afghani native who has to deal with comments and distrust because of that. I liked it enough that I’m going to give it another few episodes to see if A) I continue to enjoy it and B) CBS keeps it on the schedule. 😉

On tonight’s episode, “Firebomb,” during the rookies’ first midnight duty, Lazarus and Tonya try to stop rival gangs from moving in after a drug dealer’s house is firebombed. Meanwhile, Jackpot and Ahmad are shadowed by a rap star who is playing a cop in an upcoming movie.Kurk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones guest stars as Monsta White.

Check it out tonight on CBS at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of NYC 22 @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/15/12

It’s the start of a new week, and there’s plenty of good TV on, even though a few days are slower than others. Tonight has some great new episodes, though, so check out our recommendations below!

Jenny’s Choice #1

Last week, I watched the premiere of The Client List. I *almost* didn’t watch it, because I haven’t been a huge fan of most of the shows on Lifetime, ABC Family, etc. But I’m so very glad I did. I’m already shipping Riley and her brother-in-law, Evan. I loved the character of Riley and thought Jennifer Love Hewitt played her perfectly. Cybill Shepherd is great at Riley’s mother, too. And Loretta Devine is fantastic as Riley’s new boss at the spa. I’m interested to see where the show goes, now that Riley’s husband has left her and she’s taken the job at the spa giving happy endings… lol

On tonight’s episode, “Turn the Page,” Riley stumbles upon the phone number of a mystery woman from her husband’s past, leaving her to wonder if he was having an affair before he disappeared. Riley blows off some steam at a local bar with some of the girls from work. And a new client named “The Camel” finds a week of comfort from Riley while he’s on leave from work. Meanwhile, Riley’s mom, Linette, embarks on a new romance with fellow churchgoer, Garrett.

Check it out tonight on Lifetime at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Client List @ Clicker.
