If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/24/14

The Olympics are over, and while I really enjoyed cheering my country on, I am very ready for the regular schedule to resume. This week is bringing us a bunch of new episodes, a few season premieres, and even a few series premieres. I know… I’m super excited, too! Let’s see what’s on tonight that we’re recommending.

Megan’s Choice

thevoice2013smallThe Voice comes back for another season starting tonight, and I’m really looking forward to it. Blake and Adam are returning for this season, but Cee Lo and Christina are not. Instead, Usher and Shakira will be in their places. We’ve found out that Cee Lo will not be returning at all, but I’m be okay with that, as long as it’s always Usher in his place, because that boy is so yummy to look at and he is a great coach. This season, I’m hoping we see some more fabulous singers and lots of fun bickering between the judges, because that’s what makes this talent show my favorite.

On tonight’s episode, “Blind Auditions Part 1,” the celebrity coaches begin selecting vocalists in blind auditions.

To see how the talent stacks up this season, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Following, Almost Human, Star-Crossed, Mom, Intelligence, Teen Wolf, 2 Broke Girls, The Blacklist, Bitten, Lost Girl, Being Human, and Dallas.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/27/14

Ahh, welcome back freezing temperatures. It’s been pretty mild here lately—Saturday was in the high 40s, while it was closer to 60 yesterday! Today? The high is supposed to be 21. Brrr. Of course, I’m just thankful I’m not in Canada with Megan. I love you, girl, but no way am I living up there. 😉 While I curl up under a blanket, check out our recommendations. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #1

castle127smallMy first pick tonight is the new episode of Castle. Last week was another great one, a rip on the “Miley Cyrus and other teen pop stars in the news.” You kinda had to feel bad for the girl, who’d pretty much been railroaded into becoming who she was. And then to find out that her mom was the one who killed her lookalike to cover up the fact that she’d hired the girl to pose in a compromising position with her daughter’s ex-boyfriend in the hopes of breaking up her and her current boyfriend—who was a really good guy and helping her to get away from the life she no longer was happy living. My favorite parts had to be everything with Alexis—from talking about the singer in front of her, to going to her apartment to switch phones, etc. And then, joy of joys, it seemed at the end like Alexis was going to break up with Pi. One can only hope, yeah? 😉

On tonight’s episode, “Dressed to Kill,” when the assistant to Modern Fashion Magazine’s dictatorial editor Matilda King (guest star Franes fisher) is found murdered, Castle and Beckett are thrust into the glitzy, ruthless world of high fashion in their search for the killer. Meanwhile Beckett’s history in the modelling world gets her access to a very special wedding surprise.

See Castle’s reaction to Beckett’s modeling past tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/21/13

It’s Monday, which means back to work for most people, but that’s okay. While tonight might not have as big a list of new shows on as some of the other days this week, what episodes ARE on are well worth watching. Kyle’s headed out of town, so tonight, it’s just Megan, JJ, and I giving you our recommendations. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #1

bones1021smallBones fans have waited eight seasons to get to this point. Last week, we watched as Booth and Bones started preparing for their wedding, all while trying to solve the murder of a cancer patient who had been working on his bucket list. That prompted everyone on the team to start their own lists, and it was cute watching what each of them came up with. But tonight, eight seasons of wishing and waiting and hoping come to fruition as the wedding day has finally arrived. Of course, it wouldn’t be Bones if it went off without a hitch, but I promise you, I’ve seen tonight’s episode, and it DOES happen—and happen extraordinarily beautifully and perfect, at that. We get to see people that we haven’t seen in way too long, as well as some new friends. It’s a wedding in spectacular Bones fashion, and as a shipper, it’s one of my favorite episodes in all eight (and a few episodes) seasons. (Click the pictures to see the full-size versions!)

bones1021bsmallOn tonight’s episode, “The Woman in White,” the Jeffersonian team investigates the murder of Nancy Handelman, whose body was discovered at the time of Brennan and Booth’s wedding rehearsal. When the case becomes more serious than the team anticipated, Cam and Angela do everything in their power to keep the details of the investigation from Brennan in order to ensure that she will stay focused on her big day. Tensions run high when unfortunate events occur to stall the wedding temporarily, and Max (guest star Ryan O’Neal) comes to town with a suspicious duffle bag full of money. Patricia Belcher (AUSA Caroline Julian), Mather Zickel (Aldo Clemens), Eugene Byrd (Dr. Clark Edison), Pej Vahdat (Arastoo Vaziri), Michael Grant Terry (Wendell Bray), Carla Gallo (Daisy Wick), Brian Klugman (Dr. Oliver Wells), Joel David Moore (Colin Fisher), Cyndi Lauper (Avalon Harmonia), Joanna Cassidy (Marianne Booth), Ralph Waite (Hank Booth), Ty Panitz (Parker Booth), & David Hornsby (Emily Deschanel’s real-life husband!) also guest star.

See the epiciness that is the Booth/Brennan wedding tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

Pilot Watch 2013 – CBS

We’ve done the FOX pilots, but now, Megan, Kyle, and I are back to talk about the CBS pilots for the 2013 season. We have each rated them as Watch, Maybe, or Skip, so check out what we have to say.

Hostages (Premieres 9/23)

hostagespilotsmallJenny: Love Dylan McDermott a lot, but this one’s a skip for me. Too dark, too much drama. I don’t watch straight-up dramas. I get enough of that away from the TV. I think for fans of this genre, they’ll love it, but it isn’t for me. – Skip

Megan: This show is a must see for me, which is a problem for my poor, overworked DVR. There’s something about an intelligent drama that just makes my life a better place to be, and this show is exactly that. I’m also very happy that it’s a 12-episode season, because it makes the writers work that much harder to deliver a stellar season. – Watch

Kyle: I really enjoyed this pilot—Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott are great. The pilot sets up a really interesting premise—it’s a suspenseful ride with some unexpected twists. In the first hour, they give each of the characters his or her own secrets, while also establishing a much larger conspiracy arc. I’m really interested to see where the series goes. – Watch

Our Thoughts on the CBS 2013-14 Pilot Trailers

In case you missed it, Megan, Kyle, & I gave our opinions yesterday on the ABC trailers. You can view that here. Now, we’re here to give you our opinions on the CBS shows, starting with the dramas.

Hostages

  • Jenny: I want to like this show so badly because I love Dylan McDermott, and it’s part cop show…but I have a feeling it’s going to be a no-go for me for several reasons. One, the drama aspect (like all the stuff going on with the kids—the pregnant daughter, drug-dealing son or something), and two, I hate watching things with dirty cops. (One of my most hated movies I’ve ever watched is Training Day, with a dirty Denzel Washington.) But I’ll give it a shot because of how much I want to like it. – Curious.
  • Megan: Very rarely do I not like a Jerry Bruckheimer drama, so I’m sure this is quickly going to become a must watch for me. The premise of a political conspiracy where Ellen (Toni Collette) is being coerced to assassinate the President to save her family, who are being held hostage by Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott) is a very intriguing and exciting one. I love that it’s only a 12-episode season so the story line is forced to move quickly and dramatically, similar to shows on cable networks like HBO. – Excited.
  • Kyle: This looks like an exciting series from executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott, who I’ve enjoyed in other dramatic series. I like that it is only a 12-episode series, starting in September and ending in January—which means that it should hopefully be a lot tighter in the writing, won’t drag on, and will give some resolution by the end. – Excited.
