If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/17/13

This fall season is crazy—there’s just way too much TV to choose from! While that might sound like a good thing, it becomes a problem when you refuse to choose and try to watch it all! 🙂 And with an unusal amount of travel for me recently, I find myself wishing all hotels provided a DVR loaded with my favorite shows. Otherwise, how am I supposed to keep up?!

whitecollar1017smallTonight, USA kicks off the fifth season of White Collar. When we were last in NYC, the search for Ellen’s box had finally come to a close at the Empire State Building, where the contents of the box proved that Neal’s father James was in fact a dirty cop. Meanwhile, James had an altercation with Pratt and used Peter’s gun to kill the senator. Neal pleaded with his father to confess to the killing, but James refused and took off, leaving Peter to take the fall. At the end of the episode, Peter was being carted off by the police for murder.

Will we see James return to take responsibility for what he did? How will Peter clear his name? Maybe Neal and Mozzie can use some of their seedy connections to help him? I’m looking forward to an all-new season of cases, undercover work, and adventures. (Once things get back to normal, of course.)

On tonight’s episode, “At What Price.” Neal makes a dangerous deal to help clear Peter’s name after he is accused of playing a role in Sen. Pratt’s death.

Find out what deal he makes tonight on USA Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, Elementary, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Grey’s Anatomy, Parks and Recreation, Welcome to the Family, Sean Saves the World, The Michael J. Fox Show, Parenthood, Reign, Mythbusters, Covert Affairs, and Childrens Hospital.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/10/13

I had a great time in Montreal earlier this week for the annual Syfy Digital Press Tour. We got to visit the sets of Being Human and upcoming series Helix, both of which will air in January. However, those days away mean I’ve now got a huge backlog of shows to catch up on! If you’ve got some free time in your busy TV schedule, we’ve got some suggestions for you to check out tonight.

wonderlandsmallTonight, ABC premieres the new series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. This spin-off from the original Once Upon a Time series follows the adventures of Alice in Wonderland. The format is similar to the original show, where we will follow concurrent stories in both the real world and in Wonderland. We will also see characters from other tales and worlds—such as Jafar and Cinderella—collide with the residents of Wonderland. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Once Upon a Time world is expanded and what new stories and characters we will meet in this spin-off.

On tonight’s premiere, “Down the Rabbit Hole,” Alice is taken to an asylum after she shares fanciful tales about a curious place called Wonderland, and the Knave of Hearts saves her before she has an operation.

Get swept away in a fairytale tonight on ABC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Parks and Recreation, Welcome to the Family, Sean Saves the World, The Michael J. Fox Show, Parenthood, Glee, and Childrens Hospital.

Pilot Watch 2013 – ABC

We’ve done the FOX & CBS pilots, but now, Megan, Kyle, and I are back to talk about the ABC pilots for the 2013 season. We’ve each rated them as Watch, Maybe, or Skip, so check out what we have to say. (On a side note, a screener of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn’t available, but it premieres 9/24, and we all think it’s a watch, regardless of whether or not we’ve seen the pilot. 😉 )

Back in the Game (Premieres 9/25)

backinthegamesmallJenny: Really cute, really funny. James Caan is great as the gruff, rough, tough, beer-guzzling father/grandfather. Maggie Lawson’s character is fun, watching her trying to balance being a good mom—and the complete opposite of her father—and trying to keep her father from treating her son like he did her. The kids are a lot of fun in this one. I can’t wait to see more. – Watch

Megan: This was a great pilot—lots of laughs, and the acting was strong. It had a good vibe to the show overall, and I foresee lots of great moments with James Caan and Maggie Lawson. This is definitely one of the best new fall comedies. – Watch

Kyle: James Caan and Maggie Lawson have great chemistry—I found it very believable that these two could be father and daughter. The show is a nice blend of heart and humor. While the pilot wasn’t as laugh-out-loud funny as I had hoped, I still have high hopes for the series, and I think it makes a great addition to the Wednesday ABC comedy lineup. I’m not sure how they will keep it fresh each week—there’s only so many times you can go to that Bad News Bears well before the team of misfit kids needs to get a win—but I’m looking forward to seeing more. – Watch

Our Thoughts on the ABC 2013-14 Pilot Trailers

Megan, Kyle, & I have gotten a chance to watch the trailers & clips for all the new network shows, and we’re here to give you our opinions on what might be worth watching—based on the trailers alone. Our opinions may (most likely WILL) change after we get a chance to view the pilots, but for now, this is what we’re thinking. Check out our thoughts on the ABC trailers now, and then come back over the next few days to check out our responses to the other networks.

Let’s start off with the dramas…in alphabetical order:

Betrayal

  • Jenny: Honestly, this is probably one I’ll skip even watching the pilot, simply because I know my tastes. This is a drama through and through—much like Nashville and Scandal have turned out to be. I don’t mind a little drama for drama’s sake if it’s in a cop, law, or medical show, but when it’s all about drama, no thanks. – Most Likely 1 and Done.
  • Megan: This trailer left me wanting more. I’m sure there are going to be a lot of people who say that the infidelity angle has been done too many times. I am not one of those people. This a mom who feels alone in her marriage and a man that sparks something in her that she thought was gone. It’s a difficult place to be, and I’m not sure what I would do, but I do know that watching this woman’s life change around her is going to make for good TV. – Curious.
  • Kyle: This looks more like something that belongs on Lifetime. Seems to be very thin on plot and heavy on the sex scenes. I would have thought this was another Shonda Rhimes show based on that trailer. – Most Likely 1 and Done.
