If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/28/14

I’m so excited for a new week! So far, I’ve been LOVING the new season, and there are more shows that I can’t wait to see premiering this week, starting tonight, so check out what we’re recommending.

Jenny’s Choice #1

brooklyn99-928smallMy first pick is the season premiere of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Last season ended on such a crazy, outrageous note… Jake was tasked to go undercover for the FBI, trying to catch a bunch of mob guys. But the episodes before that, he realized he had feelings for Santiago. Just before he left, he admitted them to her, but she was dating Teddy, so nothing happened. I’m excited and anxious for this season because their first one was such a huge hit and was so fantastic, but it’s now on Sunday night. Hopefully the second season will live up to the precedence set by season one and being on a new night surrounded by animated comedies won’t hurt it. I’ve seen the premiere, and I will say that it’s off to a great start. The same humor is there, the characters and jokes are just as funny, and I can see it being another fantastic comedy for this year.

On tonight’s episode, “Undercover,” Jake’s undercover FBI operation ends in a successful sting, until he learns one mobster has gotten away. As Jake enlists Charles’s help to track him down, Holt tests the squad’s patience with practice drills. Jenny Slate guest stars.

See how the squad welcomes Jake back to work tonight on FOX at 8:30/7:30c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/15/13

We finally got our first big winter snowstorm of the year here last night—I’d be happy if it just snowed once a year, on Christmas, and just enough of a dusting to make things white, and then it all went away the next day. 🙂 While the rest of the TV is My Pacifier gang seems to have plenty of new shows this week, tonight is by far my busiest. After tonight, the rest of the week is really scarce for me. But since I still have at least 30 episodes of things on my TiVo to catch up on, that’s fine with me! Read on to see what we suggest you check out tonight.

psych1215smallTonight, the long-awaited Psych: The Musical airs on USA Network. This past summer at San Diego Comic-Con, I had the opportunity to attend the special midnight premiere of the Psych musical, and I was really pleased (despite being extremely tired). From fun, catchy musical numbers with some really witty lyrics, to some great Broadway talent like Anthony Rapp (Rent) and Barry Bostwick (Grease), it was one of the better TV show musical episodes I have seen. (I’m convinced every show should try a musical episode once!) The only thing I found a little odd was that the timeline of the episode falls somewhere in the middle of last season, so Juliette wasn’t aware of Shawn’s secret yet. However, since it’s been several months since Psych last aired, it may be a little less jarring for viewers.

In this special 2-hour musical extravaganza, Shawn and Gus must track down an escaped playwright who was declared criminally insane 6 years prior, after a critic was killed in a suspicious theater fire. During their investigation, Shawn finds himself seeking the assistance of a dangerous villain from his past.

Get your dose of fun and zany tonight on USA Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Once Upon a Time, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Guy’s Grocery Games, Restaurant Express, Cutthroat Kitchen, Getting On, Ja’mie: Private School Girl, Homeland, and Masters of Sex.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/17/13

I love the weekend… This is going to be an odd week for me, though, so I’m preparing myself already… It’s spring break here in our school district. That’s usually a great thing for my kiddo, but this year, his best friend who lives across the street, had his spring break LAST week. He attends a private school, and the last few years, they’ve scheduled it for the same week as the public school system in town. Not so, this year. Dunno why. But it seriously put a crimp into my son’s plans. Luckily, even tonight, there’s some great TV on to distract us both. 😉 Happy St. Patrick’s Day, by the way. Hope you’re wearing green so you don’t get pinched! 😉

thementalist317smallLast week on The Mentalist, we watched two more of Patrick Jane’s hopes of finding Red John disappear down the drain as Lorelei Martins killed the man who delivered her sister to Red John to be killed, and then she left in order to find Red John and kill him for it. She hadn’t believed until that moment that RJ had been the one to kill her sister, but once she did, she was going to take him down. Unfortunately, that led to her death. Red John killed her and left his signature red painted face over the body. It was a mixed bag of emotions for Jane, who was unhappy because that meant she couldn’t help him find the man responsible for murdering his wife and daughter, but he also said she got what she deserved.

I love this show, but I do miss the focus being more on the cases the team is working than on Jane’s hunt for Red John. I don’t mind the RJ hunt being there and in the background, coming out to play every so often…but it’s kind of getting old. I hope we either get some resolution to it soon or they focus back on the work Jane is doing with the CBI. Also, how cute is Rigsby now that he’s admitted to still having feelings for Van Pelt?? Maybe once Amanda Righetti is back from maternity leave, they will FINALLY get together!

On tonight’s episode, “Red, White and Blue,” the CBI team investigates when the body of a female army medic who worked with soldiers with PTSD is found near a military base. Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13) guest stars on tonight’s ep!!

Don’t miss it tonight on CBS at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Mentalist @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Bible, Worst Cooks in America, & Vikings.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/6/13

Welcome back, everyone! We hope everyone had a great couple of weeks and enjoyed the holidays. Did you get caught up on all the shows crowding your DVR? We did. Something like eight episodes of Person of Interest and six of Elementary in addition to odds and ends…we cut it down to only 35 recordings. Woohoo. *laugh* Of course, this week starts back with a lot of new TV, which means it’ll fill again pretty quickly. But that’s okay…it just means we’ll have plenty to watch! So check out what we all think you should be watching or recording to fill up your time tonight. 🙂

Two of my favorite people to watch on the Food Network (& in her case, on her show on ABC) are Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri. I know RR annoys some people, but I love her. 😀 Last season, Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off was incredibly fun to watch. I couldn’t decide who to root for most of the time, but I loved that Lou Diamond Phillips won, and Coolio shocked the heck out of me with how good he was. This season will hopefully be just as much fun, and there are definitely some characters this time around! Chilli (from the group TLC), Cornelia Guest, Dean McDermott, and figure skater Johnny Weir are Team Guy, and Carnie Wilson, Hines Ward, Kathy Najimy, and Gilbert Gottfried are Team Rachael.

On tonight’s premiere, “The Show Must Go On,” the teams must cook a prix fixe menu for a dinner theater and perform a skit for the patrons. (A prix fixe menu is simply a collection of pre-determined items presented as a multi course meal at a set price.)

Don’t miss the competition tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/4/12

We’re halfway through the weekend and to the first day of the new week of TV. It’s a big week for the US, as we head to polls on Tuesday, so take some time to relax each night with our recommendations on what to watch, starting with tonight. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

I am SO excited about tonight’s season premiere of The Next Iron Chef. I would be excited even if this were a normal competition, but I’m even more excited because this is the season of redemption. All ten chefs have competed before and are back for a second chance at being the winner. Nine chefs were picked, while a tenth was chosen from a Road to Redemption webcast. I was rooting for Madison Cowan, who I quite enjoy seeing competing, but Duskie Estes won the right to compete in the new season. Along with her, the chefs this season include Nate Appleman, Elizabeth Falkner (who I thought got ripped off last season when Geoffrey Zakarian—who I don’t particularly like at all—beat her out at the end), Amanda Freitag, Eric Greenspan, Alex Guarnaschelli, Tim Love, Jehangir Mehta, Spike Mendelsohn, & Marcel Vigneron. Frankly, Marcel and Spike are hotties, and I’d love either or both of them to stick around for a while, simply for the eye candy if nothing else. (Although, I know Spike is a great chef, and I like watching him cook, so that’s a bonus. I don’t know Marcel at all…) But I think my vote has to go to Nate Appleman, who I would love to watch as an Iron Chef, or a few others. Regardless, I think it’ll be an excellent season.

On tonight’s episode, “Resourcefulness,” the 10 competing chefs arriving on a beach, where they are told they’ll be cooking with an ingredient that burned them in the past.

See who deserves to be back and who goes home first tonight on the 90-minute season premiere on Food Network 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Halloween Wars @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Funniest Home Videos, Cupcake Wars, The Amazing Race, & The Mentalist.
