If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/4/12

There’s a little bit of everything on tonight, including some series premieres and finales. It may be hump day, but it’s also the start of a busy but fun week for me. Today, I’ll be heading into the office for the first time in a long time, as they are having a Casino Night after work – I only go in for the important stuff. 🙂 Then tomorrow night, I plan to head into Cambridge to the Microsoft NERD Center for the annual Made in Massachusetts gaming industry party, and on Friday, I head back into Boston for the start of the PAX East gaming convention, where my brother will be hosting a panel. So while I’m trying to figure out when I’m actually going to watch all these new TV shows, here’s what we recommend you check out tonight.

Tonight, NBC kicks off yet another new comedy, Best Friends Forever. This sitcom follows soon-to-be-divorced Jessica (Jessica St. Clair), who moves back to Brooklyn looking for a new start. She moves in with her best friend Lennon (Lennon Parham) and Lennon’s boyfriend Joe (Luka Jones). The pilot has been available for a couple weeks online, including iTunes, Amazon, and Hulu. I really enjoyed the first episode. It had a lot of funny moments, and more importantly, I actually liked the characters and found myself invested in them. I think this small cast works really well together.

Like Bent, this could just be another 6-episode burn off show. I have slightly higher hopes, since NBC is only airing one episode a week of this one, pairing it with the new Betty White hidden camera show. However, it looks like Adam Pally (who plays Max on Happy Endings) was in the original version of the pilot, which means NBC has probably had this show sitting on the shelf for a while. I look forward to watching more of Best Friends Forever, even if we ultimately only get six episodes.

In tonight’s pilot, after being served with divorce papers, Jessica’s best friend, Lennon, persuades her to move back home to Brooklyn and into the apartment they used to share. The gals easily fall back into old habits, much to the dismay of Lennon’s live-in boyfriend, Joe.

Check it out tonight on NBC at 8:30/7:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Best Friends Forever @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Survivor, Criminal Minds, CSI, Happy Endings, Bent, Interior Therapy With Jeff Lewis, Psych, and Monster Man.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/1/12

Happy February! Yesterday was a pretty slow night of TV for me. Tonight isn’t hugely full (I really miss all my dramas!), but there are still some great shows on. What do we think you should watch? Check out our picks below, and then let us know what you are planning to watch. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #1

The new episodes of Royal Pains the last couple of weeks have been great. Hank and Divya took a while to get back to normal, and while things may not be perfect yet, they are better than they were after she first told him about being the one to screw up with their patient. And how freakin adorable are Paige and Evan?! I really love them together, and last week, when Evan was freaking out because he had hives, was hysterical. I’m so not digging Jill at the moment, though. If she’s going to go, then just go, dammit. but if she’s not really going, show more angst between her & Hank about her leaving, so when she DOESN’T leave, it’s a bigger payoff. And finally…how heartbreaking is the storyline with Ed—I mean, Jack (played by the adorable, fun, talented Tom Cavanagh, who is one of my biggest TV crushes)?

On tonight’s episode, “My Back to the Future,” when a back problem limits Hank’s ability to treat patients, Evan hires Dr. Van Dyke as a temporary replacement.

Don’t miss it tonight on USA Network at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Royal Pains @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/25/12

For as few new episodes as there are this week, the shows that are on have been great! Castle, Justified, Flashpoint, White Collar… Love it. There’s even more on tonight, so check out below what we think you should be watching. Be sure to comment below to let us know what you plan to watch!

Jenny’s Choice #1

Tonight is the 150th episode of Criminal Minds. Last week, poor Reid felt like he wasn’t living up to his full potential. The bad guy basically taunted him, but in the end, Reid bested him and they caught the guy—and his best friend from years ago, who was responsible for the death of a seven-year-old boy when they were fifteen. I felt really bad for Reid the whole episode. Not only was he feeling off about where he was in his life, but the gang had forgotten his thirtieth birthday—which is a big one to forget! They surprised him at the end of the episode, but really…too little too late, in my opinion.

On tonight’s episode, “Unknown Subject,” the BAU team searches for a serial rapist in Houston known as “The Piano Man,” who has resurfaced and is assaulting his previous victims. Also, Prentiss tries to come to terms with her trauma from last year and with rejoining the team. Guest stars include Jay Karnes (The Shield, Sons of Anarchy), Dina Meyer (Starship Troopers), and Penny Peyser (Crazy Like a Fox, Knots Landing).

Don’t miss it tonight on CBS at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Criminal Minds @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/11/12

It’s all downhill from here, ladies and gentlemen. We’re mid-way through the week, but there’s still some great stuff on, so check out what we think you should be watching tonight.

My whole family is excited, because tonight is the second season premiere of Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy. We absolutely loved last season. Larry is so damn funny, and he always has a blast, wherever he goes. Some of my favorite episodes last season were Larry learning about Emily Post and all the manners that go along with that history, and the moonshine episode. Of course, I can’t forget about Larry dressing up as a mermaid (or…merman? I guess…) and performing in an underwater show. *snicker* Wherever Larry goes, hilarity is always sure to follow.

On tonight’s episode, “Alaska Road Trip,” when Larry travels to Alaska, he attempts to catch moose poachers in the act, discovers a local legend, and then decides to pay an unexpected visit to Wasilla’s most recognized citizen, along with her family.

Check it out tonight on the History Channel at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy @ Clicker.

Favorite and Least Favorite Finales of 2010/2011

It’s been an interesting May sweeps for us, where some of our favorite shows had mediocre finales, but some of our other favorites knocked it out of the park. To transition from last season to the summer shows, we thought that we would talk about our top finales, as well as our least favorites. Warning: you may be spoiled if you haven’t watched these finales yet!

The first five are our top favorites, from fifth to first, our most favorite.

#5 Favorite Finale

Jenny's Choice: Nikita
I watched Nikita off and on throughout the season, but in the end, the season went out with a bang. Things are up in the air with Percy, Amanda is taking over Division and has recruited a newly vengeful (or, well, now out in the open with her vengeance and is now working against Nikita), and Nikita and Michael, after being nearly killed and held hostage respectively, escaped and are on the run with one of the all important black boxes. Next season should be VERY interesting, seeing how Amanda in charge will change the game and seeing what Michael and Nikita do now that they are together and against everyone they know.
Megan's Choice: Glee
This finale wasn't perfect, but it was great in my eyes. I really enjoyed how, while in New York, Kurt and Rachel did a duet on the stage of Wicked and had breakfast at Tiffany's. Finn and Rachel declaring their love for each other was long overdue. The ill-timed kiss at Nationals may have cost their team being in the top 10, but no one will ever know for sure. Blaine telling Kurt he loved him, and Kurt saying it in return, was adorable. Meanwhile, there is an obvious relationship brewing between Sam and Mercedes, although I can see why they'd want to keep their relationship secret for now. Let's see where all these relationships go next season and hope that Ryan Murphy doesn't mess with them too much.
