If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/1/14

Tomorrow, my kids head back to school, and I’m super excited about it because it also means that the new TV season is just around the corner. Don’t get me wrong… Summer has brought us lots of entertainment, but I am beyond ready for the new season of my favorite shows. Aren’t you? Let’s see what we’re recommending tonight to keep us entertained while I eagerly await the new fall season.

Megan’s Choice

runningwildsmallI have been really loving this season of Running Wild with Bear Grylls because the celebrities are super amusing in the wild. My favorite episode was actually the one with Channing Tatum, and it wasn’t because of his incredible sexy good looks, but because of his amusing attitude through the whole episode. The scene eating the snake was disgusting but very funny, and I have a newfound respect for Channing. Perhaps that’s what is the most intriguing about this show, the ability to see celebrities in a new light.

On tonight’s episode, “Tamron Hall,” world-renowned survivalist Bear Grylls spends two days in the remote Utah desert with Tamron Hall (The Today Show), getting to know the depths of her personal tragedies and triumphs of her life, while challenging her along the way. Hall makes small talk with an unlikely friend in the wild and later struggles when she finds him on her dinner plate.

To see how Tamron does, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef, Hotel Hell, American Ninja Warrior, Teen Wolf, The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, and Houdini.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/25/14

While most of you have kids back in school already, here in Canada, our kids don’t go back until next week. This is the last week of summer and also one of the busiest times as we get everything ready for school. To keep my mind off the insanity, let’s see what we’re recommending you watch on TV tonight.

Megan’s Choice #1

masterchef2014smallThis season of MasterChef has been incredibly unpredictable as far as who goes home and who manages to hang on by the skin of their teeth. Last week was a perfect example of this when Daniel, Jaimee, Cutter, and Willie ended up in the pressure test. That was a pressure test from hell—first poach an egg, then egg yolk ravioli, and finally a cheese souffle. All three of those take talent, and it was a blood bath. Willie managed to sing his way to a perfect poached egg in the first round. In the second round, a surprise was Cutter making a perfect egg yolk ravioli. Finally, we had Jaimee and Daniel go head to head on a souffle, with Jaimee just slightly nudging Daniel out. I was floored! Honestly, I believed that Cutter should have gone home out of all of them, but that man seems to have horseshoes up his butt lately. In the beginning, I really liked him, but my problem with him became his attitude and his inconsistency. For the ones who are left now, I am hoping that Jaimee or Willie win it all, but I think in the end, it’s going to be Elizabeth and Courtney fighting for the title.

On tonight’s episode, “Top 7 Compete,” before the next mystery box challenge, the remaining home cooks will receive a little hometown encouragement, as they head into a savory apple dish challenge. The home cook who creates the best dish will not only be safe from elimination but will also play a key role in the next challenge. Then, the remaining home cooks will be split into pairs as they prepare a variety of pot stickers.

To watch these talented home cooks battle it out again, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/5/12

Tonight is a very busy night of TV, especially since last week’s episodes on CBS were pre-empted because of Sandy, so they are airing tonight instead. And FOX is back after the baseball hiatus, which just leads to a pretty fun night for relaxing in front of the television, curling up under a blanket, and just enjoying all the great new episodes. Check out what we think you should be watching tonight—and we’re pretty darn smart, so take our advice, wouldja? 😉

Jenny’s Choice #1

I was lucky enough to see tonight’s episode of Bones. It’s been a month since the last new episode because of the break for baseball. I’m so thrilled it’s back. In the last new ep, Sweets and Daisy went from moving in together to breaking up completely. Even though it was his choice, it clearly threw Sweets for a loop. Meanwhile, Booth and Bones were still adjusting to being a family with Christine after Bones took off with her at the end of last season. They’ve gotten past most of it, but there are bound to be lingering issues. They are working it out, though, and we’re getting great new episodes with the normal murders and cases that we love.

Hart Hanson & Stephen Nathan recently spoke to the press about the rest of the season. You can check out all the fun Q&A here: Hart Hanson & Stephen Nathan Interview.

On tonight’s episode, “The Method in the Madness,” the Jeffersonian team investigates the death of a woman whose body was found mutilated and discarded in a city garbage can. Meanwhile, Booth invites Sweets to stay with Brennan and him while Sweets searches for a new apartment. Joel David Moore, Leif Gantvoort, Galadriel Stineman, James Patrick Stuart (Supernatural, 90210, CSI), Gualtiero Negrini, Brandon Fobbs, Abraham Benrubi (ER, Men in Trees), & Kathryn Wahl guest star.

Welcome back the Jeffersonian team tonight on FOX at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Bones @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/29/12

First day back to work for most people and school for kids. It sucks that the weekend went by so quickly, but thank goodness there’s some great new TV on tonight to take away the sting of it. I promise, we have some great recommendations tonight, so check it out. 😉

Jenny’s Choice

On the last episode of Castle, Writer Boy himself and Beckett went on vacation to his house in the Hamptons…but it turned into a working vacation when a guy stumbled into Castle’s yard and fell dead into his pool. Kind of put a kibosh on the naked swimming Beckett was planning! It was a fun episode—from the local police chief thinking Beckett was a call girl to Ryan and Espisito trying to figure out who Beckett is seeing to Ryan figuring it out. I loved it all. But the preview for this week’s episode made me cringe. I’m sure it’ll be a good episode (they always are), and I’m really looking forward to it, but still… LOL

On tonight’s episode, “Probable Cause,” while investigating a shocking ritualistic murder, Beckett and her team uncover surprising evidence linking Castle to the killing. As the evidence against him mounts, loyalties are tested, and when surprising revelations come to light, Beckett begins to wonder how well she really knows her new lover and partner of four years.

See how the team proves Castle’s innocence tonight on ABC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Castle @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Dancing with the Stars, How I Met Your Mother, Partners, 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Hawaii Five-0, & Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

Trailers for New Fall Shows on CBS & Our Thoughts

You saw all the trailers and our thoughts on the new shows for ABC, NBC, & FOX. Now check out the same for the new CBS shows!

Link to Elementary on CBS.com.

Jenny’s Thoughts: It’s a cop show, which I love, and Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu are fantastic as Sherlock Holmes and a female Watson. I really loved the trailer, so I’m anxious to see more of this one. I think if you like The Mentalist, you’ll enjoy this one, too. – Excited
Megan’s Thoughts: Pure brilliance. I love the fact that Watson is a woman, and I love the eccentric, harsh character that Holmes is. It’s bound to be a hit if they can keep up the witty banter in the script while still solving crimes. I’m hooked already. – Excited
Kyle’s Thoughts: Did we really need another Sherlock Holmes adaptation? While the answer is “no,” I do like Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, and this does look like a good show. This version of Holmes kind of reminds me of Patrick Jane with a British accent. – Excited
