If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/18/14

Argh. As much as I’m enjoying watching ice skating (because let’s face it, that’s ALL I’m watching of the Olympics…), I want my shows back, darnit! It was great having Castle and Intelligence on last night, but I really wish NCIS and NCIS: LA were new tonight. That being said, there’s some good stuff on, so check out our recommendations.

Jenny’s Choice

cougartown218smallLast week, Cougar Town was all about the cul-de-sac garage sale, Jules and bad karma because she lied to customers during said garage sale, Andy being a garage sale hoarder and betting Ellie she couldn’t refrain from being snarky so he could collect a bunch more stuff, and Travis and Bobby overcoming their fear of roller coasters. There were a lot of great, funny scenes, but two of my favorites had to be Jules being too dang honest with the potential home buyers and then the car crashing into her office, and then at the end, when the whole gang showed up to support Bobby & Travis and then they ended up opening the urn during the ride and getting ashes all over everyone behind them. And of course, we lost Big Tippi, the wine “glass” Jules got while in L.A. We were introduced to Big Chuck, which is just an even bigger flower vase and even more ridiculous. Lots of laughs every week for this show!

On tonight’s episode, “Time to Move On,” with Travis graduating college in a few months, Jules starts to worry about his job prospects with an art degree. Laurie and Ellie pose as a couple in a desperate effort to get Stan into a fancy new school. Meanwhile, Andy insists on making a cat video with the guys for Bro-day.

See if Laurie and Ellie can pull off couple-dom tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Killer Women.

Interview with Merritt Patterson from Ravenswood

merrittpatterson115smallABC Family has brought another original hit show to our television screens with their newest addition of Ravenswood. From the minds of the executive producers of Pretty Little Liars comes this new drama that is centered on a town that has suffered under a deadly curse for generations. Five strangers find themselves connected by this curse and need to work together to find out about the town’s fatal history before it claims them as well.

Recently, I got the opportunity to chat with Merritt Patterson, who plays the beautiful Olivia. Olivia was once a very happy and trouble-free girl, but recent experiences have left her searching for answers and evaluating what’s important in life.

Let’s see what this talented young lady had to say about her character, the show, and life in general.

Her views on Olivia

Merritt: Olivia and I are really similar, which was great as far as our tendencies and how we deal with things. I think I brought more of a subtle characteristic to her because she is prom queen. And I think when you think of prom queen, you think of over-the-top. It’s in my nature to be a little bit more subtle, so I think I added that to her character.

I like that she’s a very caring person; she cares a lot about all the people around her, and she’s very protective of them all, and I enjoy that about her. She’s not this crazy popular girl who lives in her own world. Yet she’s still homecoming queen.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/19/12

It’s interesting what you can learn when you watch shows like Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy with your family. We watched the episode from a couple of weeks ago, where Larry went to Washington D.C. That led to discussions about 9/11 and about the passengers on the plane that went down in the middle of the field, and then we talked about the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. It was just really an interesting few minutes and made me realize why I like that show. It’s silly a lot of times, but it’s spurned a lot of interesting conversations for our family. Do you have any shows like that? Speaking of shows…some of my favorites are on tonight, so read on to see what we think you should be watching.

I love when we get new episodes of Castle. The episode three weeks ago where the victims were dressed like fairytale characters was great. When it turned out to be the last “victim” that was the killer, I was actually surprised, and that doesn’t happen a ton for me. I love that they figured it out because the bow was tied wrong on her outfit as she supposedly lay in bed after the killer got to her. Of course, the best part of the episode was at the end, when Castle and Beckett sat with Alexis and watched Martha’s one-woman play about being Rick Castle’s mother…and Beckett slipped her hand into Castle’s. I swear, shippers’ hearts must have been fluttering over the entire viewing audience. I know mine was!

Our favorite non-couple couple is growing closer and closer throughout this season. There’s still a lot up in the air for them, though. So many secrets… Will they be strong enough to survive Kate admitting she heard Castle’s proclamation of love? Will Castle’s deception that he is continuing to look into her mother’s case, meeting with people who know about it in secret, make her run because she can’t trust him? I swear, it’s driving me crazy with worry. Hopefully the writers won’t let us down! I can’t handle another season finale that has them driven apart like we’ve gotten up til now!

On tonight’s episode, “A Dance with Death,” when Odette Morton, a contestant on the hit competition show “A Night of Dance” is found murdered in her dressing room, Castle and Beckett must navigate the case’s many twists and twirls without stepping on each other’s toes. But as they delve into Odette’s past, they discover that this reality starlet was harboring a shocking secret that may have led to her death. (Obviously this is a play on Dancing with the Stars, which premieres just before this episode! lol) Adam Harrington (The Secret Circle, Whistler, Show Me Yours), Lauralee Bell (The Young and the Restless), Erin Chambers (General Hospital), & Tim Ransom guest star.

Don’t miss it tonight on ABC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Castle @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/12/12

Did everyone have a good weekend? I did, except for forgetting about the time change—that really messed my schedule up. On a different note, TV is picking up this week, with more and more new shows. Last week saw the premiere of GCB, and later this week, we’ll see the premiere of Missing. Busy week, indeed, so enjoy a slower night for TV viewing and prepare for the week ahead. Let’s see what you should be watching.

Last week, the battle rounds started on The Voice, and it was a star studded event with the guest mentors there to help the team. I was pretty excited to see Kelly Clarkson there as a mentor for Team Blake, especially since I just got to see her in concert live last week. She was fabulous. Anyway, back to The Voice. Battle rounds last week were really good, and I’m happy with the choices made by the judges. It’s going to be a blood bath regardless, because the talent is so large this year.

On tonight’s episode, the battles continue, and we get to see the team leaders pitt their team members against each other. The advisers will join the mentors again this week, including Lionel Richie, Kelly Clarkson, Babyface, Jewel, Miranda Lambert, Alanis Morissette, Ne-Yo, and Robin Thicke.

To see which of the contestants survive for the live shows, tune in to NBC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Voice @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Smash.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/5/12

It’s the Monday before March break for my daughter, so I am going to relax and use this week to prepare myself for having her home to amuse for a week! Tonight, I’m just going to sit back and watch some of the great new TV that’s on. Let’s see what we should all be watching.

Megan’s Choice

Well, the time has come for the battle rounds on The Voice to begin, and I am so excited – yet nervous. I have so many favorites that I know this is going to be a blood bath. My favorites are: Pip (Team Adam), Tony Lucca (Team Adam), Lex Land (Team Blake), James Massone (Team Cee Lo), and Lindsey Pavao (Team Christina). This season has so many talented contestants that it’s going to be painful to watch them go.

On tonight’s episode, the battle rounds begin and the coaches enlist the help of music industry professionals to offer their knowledge and skill as advisers. Christina teams up with Jewel and Lionel Richie; Adam Levine with Alanis Morissette and Robin Thicke; Cee Lo Green with Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Ne-Yo; and Blake Shelton with Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert. In this phase, the coaches pit two of their own team members against each other in a dueling duet. After the vocal face-off, each coach must choose which vocalist from their team is going home and which is staying for the live shows.

To see if the judges are smart and keep my favorites, tune in to NBC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Voice @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Alcatraz and Smash.
