If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/10/14

It’s been a great start to the Olympics for both Canada and the United States, with an especially heart-warming moment for Canada when the Dufour-Lapointe Sisters won Gold and Silver in the Women’s Moguls. I know that there are people who aren’t as excited about the Olympics as I am, but it was a great moment, and Hannah Kearney of the USA finished out the medal winners, taking bronze, so we all win. Now, there are still great shows on for those who aren’t glued to their televisions watching the Olympics, so let’s take a look at what else you should be watching.

Megan’s Choice

rachaelvsguysmallIt’s been an interesting season on Rachel vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off, and tonight is the finale. I’ve been impressed by most of the stars, and I was quite pleased that Vanilla Ice went home last week. He really annoyed me to the extreme. Florence is definitely one of my favorites to win, and if not her, I’d like to see Penn win it, because both of them have produced some fabulous dishes. On last week’s episode, Flo’s hot dog looked the yummiest out of all of them and had me thinking of making homemade coleslaw to put on a hotdog to help fulfill my craving.

On tonight’s finale, “Sink or Swim,” the remaining celebrities prepare a meal aboard a cruise ship in order to win $50,000 for their charity.

To see which celebrity wins the money for their charity, tune in to Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Almost Human, The Following, Intelligence, Hart of Dixie, Bitten, Lost Girl, Teen Wolf, and Being Human.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/13/14

It’s crazy how fast the weekend went. Unfortunately, it’s back to work today. There’s good news, though, because tonight is a really busy night of TV, with lots of great stuff on. We’re here to hopefully help you narrow your choices down, but given that Megan & I are both recommending two shows, I’m not sure how much help we are! *laugh* Still, we’ll do our best. 😉

Jenny’s Choice #1

bitten113smallMy first pick tonight is the series premiere of Bitten on Syfy. The show is based on the “Women of the Otherworld” novels by Kelley Armstrong, and stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, Ted) as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena abandoned her Pack and took refuge in a new city. There, she works as a photographer and hides her werewolf existence from her new boyfriend. She finds herself back at Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain, after dead bodies start piling up. The show also stars Greg Bryk (A History of Violence) as werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers, Greyston Holt (Alcatraz) as Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend Clayton Danvers, and Paul Greene (The Client List) as Elena’s current beau, Philip McAdams.

I love the book series, but I’m not sold on the show yet. I’ve seen the first three minutes (didn’t have time to watch the screener that was sent out), and it starts out with a rather graphic sex scene for even regular cable. I was planning to let my 16yo son watch this show with me, but talk about uncomfortable… Kyle’s seen the first episode, and he’s not sure he’ll watch any more. But I’m recommending it because I do love the books, so I’m hoping the show will get better than he said the pilot is.

On tonight’s episode, “Summons,” the lone female werewolf in existence, who wanted to escape that life and who abandoned her back and moved to a new city, is summoned back to her Pack when bodies begin to turn up in her Pack’s backyard, Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain.

To see if this new show is for you, tune in to Syfy at 10/9c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/6/13

Welcome back, everyone! We hope everyone had a great couple of weeks and enjoyed the holidays. Did you get caught up on all the shows crowding your DVR? We did. Something like eight episodes of Person of Interest and six of Elementary in addition to odds and ends…we cut it down to only 35 recordings. Woohoo. *laugh* Of course, this week starts back with a lot of new TV, which means it’ll fill again pretty quickly. But that’s okay…it just means we’ll have plenty to watch! So check out what we all think you should be watching or recording to fill up your time tonight. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #1

Two of my favorite people to watch on the Food Network (& in her case, on her show on ABC) are Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri. I know RR annoys some people, but I love her. 😀 Last season, Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off was incredibly fun to watch. I couldn’t decide who to root for most of the time, but I loved that Lou Diamond Phillips won, and Coolio shocked the heck out of me with how good he was. This season will hopefully be just as much fun, and there are definitely some characters this time around! Chilli (from the group TLC), Cornelia Guest, Dean McDermott, and figure skater Johnny Weir are Team Guy, and Carnie Wilson, Hines Ward, Kathy Najimy, and Gilbert Gottfried are Team Rachael.

On tonight’s premiere, “The Show Must Go On,” the teams must cook a prix fixe menu for a dinner theater and perform a skit for the patrons. (A prix fixe menu is simply a collection of pre-determined items presented as a multi course meal at a set price.)

Don’t miss the competition tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/29/12

Whoever said that weekends were for rest didn’t have kids! It’s been one thing after another; however, I did get a great trip to IKEA. I love that store. 🙂 It’s like a happy drug, I swear. Of course, the thing that makes me happiest is new television, so let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

Megan’s Choice

I have noticed a few of my fellow TV journalists being on the fence lately about their love of Once Upon a Time. Well, that’s not me. This girl is over the fence and standing far on the side of LOVING this show. Every week, I find myself pulled deeper and deeper into their world. I was squealing like a school girl when Mary Margaret and David kissed last week. It was amazingly hot. Unfortunately, if the mayor (aka Evil Queen) has anything to say, there is going to be nothing but drama.

On tonight’s episode, “Fruit of the Poisonous Tree,” a dejected Sidney enlists the aid of Emma to help uncover evidence that could expose Mayor Regina as the corrupt person she really is to the townspeople of Storybrooke; and Mary Margaret and David continue their secret rendezvous while trying to figure out a way to unleash their unrequited love. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale land that was, King Leopold (Richard Schiff, The West Wing), who is the father of Snow White and married to the Evil Queen, stumbles upon a magic lamp and is granted three wishes by a Genie – who warns the king to be careful what he wishes for.

To allow your mind to frolic in fairytales tune into ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Once Upon a Time @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/22/12

Last week, I was away for a family vacation in warm, sunny Florida, only to return to 21 degrees and snowing in Massachusetts. While there, we played a lot of mini-golf, and I quickly learned how both fun and stressful it can be hanging out with toddlers 24/7. 🙂 Now, I could use another week off just to catch up on all of last week’s new TV shows that are piled up on my TiVos! Plus, tonight there’s another full lineup of great new episodes to add to the pile! Check out what we think you should watch!

Kyle’s Choice

I have really been enjoying Angry Boys on HBO. Chris Lilley has put together a great new crop of characters for his latest show. Identical twins Daniel and Nathan Sims were my favorite characters from Lilley’s previous series, We Can Be Heroes, so it is great to see them return in this series. The new character of their grandmother, Ruth “Gran” Sims, a guard at a juvenile detention facility, is also hilarious and a great addition to the family. However, my favorite new character has to be Jen Okazaki, the over-zealous and controlling mother of skateboarding superstar Tim, who takes the whole stage mother/manager to absurd levels. This show is is so funny—I love how completely insane and inappropriate it is! We are halfway through and get another double-bill of episodes tonight.

In tonight’s first episode, S.mouse’s disappointing community service at an elementary school creates a desire to get back in the public eye; Daniel’s mom makes him socialize with a gay classmate when she’s fed up with his homophobic slurs; Tim’s relationship with his mom sours as his 16th birthday approaches.

Then, in the second episode, Nathan’s success with girls irks Daniel to no end; Blake gets a visit from an old friend fresh out of jail, but Kareena is less than thrilled when he lends the ex-con his van; Gran gets the boys ready for Family Day at Garingal, and shares a secret with one of the inmates.

See both episodes tonight on HBO at 10/9c & 10:30/9:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Angry Boys @ Clicker.
