If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/21/14

It’s here, it’s here! The new fall season is here, and I couldn’t be more overjoyed about it. I’ve watched a lot of the pilots, seen a few of the premieres for returning shows, and I’m beyond excited. Tonight is rather light compared to some of the nights this week, but there’s still a lot on, so check out our recommendations to help you narrow down your list of what to watch.

Jenny’s Choice

rvgkidssmallMy pick tonight is the finale of Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off. Yes, there are premieres tonight, but I truly adore this show. The kids are amazing cooks and so freakin’ adorable. I definitely have my favorites — I love Finn because he’s just so adorable; Sean is cute and sweet; Lauren is kind of the kid who is a little nerdy, a little unsure of herself sometimes, but she’s great; Gibson really wants to win, and he shows it, even if he doesn’t always come out on top. Really, they’re all great, and it’ll be interesting to see who pulls off the victory tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “Food Fest Showdown,” for the final challenge, the kids host a food festival, where they must cook and perform a live demo of their signature dish for the crowd; then, through comment cards from festival goers and Chef Curtis Stone, a winner will be crowned.

See who takes home the prize tonight on Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Madam Secretary, The Great Food Truck Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, & Pressure Cooker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/7/14

Ever coughed so much and so hard that you either bruise your ribs, pull all the muscles around your lower chest, or otherwise injure yourself? No? I highly recommend it. It makes breathing, sleeping, and moving oh-so-much fun. While I dose myself with drugs (over-the-counter, legal ones, of course!) and wallow in misery, check out what we’re recommending you watch on TV tonight.

pressurecookersmallThere’s a lot on tonight that I’m planning on watching tonight, but one thing I’m very interested in is the premiere of a new food competition show, which, as everyone knows, is one of my favorite things to watch on TV. In each episode, viewers will see three new teams compete in a different city in the US for a cash prize. One member of the team is a chef, while the other has little to no culinary expertise. They’ll have a limited amount of time to prepare dishes, and with just a small budget, a map, and a smart phone (with no internet), they must source the best produce from local suppliers and create a world-class meal for the panel of judges. Max Silvestri (one of the hosts of the new show The Feed) hosts. He’s pretty funny, so I think he’ll be a good host on this one.

On tonight’s episode, “Burlington, VT,” three teams compete to see who can make the best farm-to-table dish. They must race through the foreign farmlands of Vermont on a quest to find and gather only locally raised or grown seasonal foods, bring them back to the Pressure Cooker Pop-Up Kitchen, and create a unique farm-to-table meal aimed to dazzle our hardened judges.

Check out this new show tonight on FYI at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Underground BBQ Challenge, Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off, The Great Food Truck Race, Hungry Investors, Unforgettable, Cutthroat Kitchen, & Reckless.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/17/14

We’re back! (Well, Kyle & I are, anyway… Megan will be back tomorrow!) It was a good sort of mini-vacation from the Remote posts. As you could see by the lack of posts that we meant to do, we were enjoying our time off. Sorry about that! Hope you found all the great new episodes regardless! On that note, there are two premieres that Kyle & I want to talk about for tonight, so read on to see what we’re recommending.

Jenny’s Choice

rvgkidssmallMy pick tonight is the season premiere of Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off on Food Network. I adored this show last season. Eight kids are split into two teams and mentored by either Rachael Ray or Guy Fieri. Just like MasterChef Junior, the talent these kids bring is beyond amazing. Last season, one of my favorites, an adorable little boy named Brandon, won, but all the kids were great. This season, I can’t wait to meet the little chefs, the youngest of which is only 9 years old! No matter who wins, though, it’ll be a fun season of different challenges, great guest judges, and some amazing talents as these kids push their kitchen chops past their limits. And since no one goes home — scores are kept in a running tally through the competition and the highest total wins at the end of the season — it’ll be easy to get to know the kids and pick your favorite.

On tonight’s episode, “Street Food Showdown,” eight young chefs arrive at the kitchen and are presented with their first Mini Challenge, in which they must make a family-favorite meal; in the Main Challenge, they must create a unique street food dish and present it in their Camera Challenge.

See what dishes the kids make tonight on Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Flipping the Block, The Great Food Truck Race, Hungry Investors, The Last Ship, The Musketeers, Unforgettable, Cutthroat Kitchen, & Reckless.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/15/13

Can you feel it? That tingle of excitment… That’s right! It’s the first week of new fall shows!!! *happy dance* Tonight kicks off the new week, but tomorrow night really nails it home, so let’s see what’s on tonight so we can get to this fall buffet of TV.

Megan’s Choice

rvgkidssmallRachael Ray and Guy Fieri are so fantastic on their own shows, but put them together on the same cooking show and add kids that can cook—I’m sold! Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off premiered last week, and it was such a fun episode. Those kids are all very talented, but also freaking adorable. My favorite so far is Hunter, because he is just so adorable, and I love that he could rock cooking the venison. I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode and seeing how much better they get in the kitchen.

On tonight’s episode, “Brunch Time,” the chefs embark on a battle of the brunches; special guest Marion Ross (Happy Days) judges the Cook-Off.

To see how the kids do with brunch foods, tune in to Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Great Food Truck Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, Iron Chef America, and Ray Donovan.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/8/13

It’s the start of another week, and I don’t know about you, but the heat has ratcheted back up here in Kansas. We were butting up against 100 degrees yesterday. Bleh. Hopefully it’ll cool off soon. I’m going to be sitting in front of the fan while I watch TV tonight, and in case you need to do the same, we have some recommendations on what you should be watching. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

rvgkidssmallI’ve really enjoyed the Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri cook-off shows with celebrities, and this season, they’re switching things up, and it’s Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off, featuring eight of the most talented kids, mentored by Rachael and Guy, as they enter the kitchen to cook their way through four rounds of real competition for the chance at winning their own Web series. I know there are kids who could cook circles around me, so I’m looking forward to seeing this one.

On tonight’s episode, “First Lady Luncheon,” after Rachael and Guy choose their teams, the kids are immediately given a Pop Quiz — create a signature dish that best expresses their culinary chops. Then during the Cook-Off Challenge, each team is challenged with creating a fresh, delicious lunch to be tasted by teen star Stefanie Scott. Michelle Obama also guest stars.

See how well these five boys and three girls can cook tonight on Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Unforgettable, The Great Food Truck Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, & Iron Chef America.
