I counted up my DVDs recently, and I have way more than I think one woman should have. Some of them haven’t been watched in ten years—kids DVDs we had when my son was young, like Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Stuart Little 2—while others have actually never even been opened—such as several DVDs of The Cleveland Show (Season 1), Being Human (BBC, Season 1), Futurama (Volume 5), and Raising Hope (Season 1), among others. I just always put them on the TV cart and forget about them. With the release of Modern Family on September 24 (and Family Guy, although I’m not going to get that one…), I’m probably going to be adding one more DVD set to my library. I need to get rid of some of them before I’m buried.
In addition to the ones I listed above, I have Bones Season 5 Blu-ray, American Dad Volumes 6 & 7 DVDs, Glee Encore DVD, & Stargate Universe 1.0 DVD, all unopened. Opened, I have In Plain Sight Seasons 1 & 2 & Royal Pains Season 1 & 2, both on DVD and both watched once, so in damn near perfect condition. I’ve also got a bunch I know I’m keeping, but I have no idea what to do with all the ones here that I don’t want/need to keep. Decisions, decisions!
So my question to you is this: What do you do with the DVDs you don’t watch anymore? Do you simply throw them away? Try to sell them on eBay or Half.com? That’s what I’m considering—in fact, I added two to Half.com a couple of weeks ago. But I’ve yet to have any buyers. I may have to lower my price, even though I feel like they are fairly reasonable now. Another site I’ve come across recently is Music Magpie. They swap your unwanted DVDs, CDs, and Games on their website in exchange for cash. I have no experience with them, but it might be worth looking into.
They have used bookstores, where you can trade in your used books and get used books at a really great price. Half.com and Music Magpie are similar to that, I suppose.
So let me have it. What do you do with your old, unwanted DVDs? I’m open to any and all suggestions.
