Jenny’s Choice

I’m so excited because tonight is the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance. It’s hard to believe it’s the 16th season, but it is! It started in July 2005 – almost exactly 15 years ago. Crazy. This season, Cat, Nigel, and Mary are back. This go round, they’re joined by Laurieann Gibson, Lady Gaga’s longtime choreographer and creative director, and SYTYCD alum Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval. Dominic was one of my favorites on his season, way back to season 3. He’s got a huge personality and seems like a sweet guy, so I’m excited to have him back on the judging panel.

On tonight’s episode, “Judges Audition #1,” the first round of auditions begins.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/4/18

Jenny’s Choice

I’m so excited because tonight is the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance on FOX. And thank goodness, but it seems like it’s back to the “old-school” format, where contestants simply dance with the All-Stars and compete in various styles. No “this vs that” or mentors with their groups, etc. Just back to the format that we all fell in love with. Nigel, Mary, and Vanessa are back as judges, and tWitch joins them on the judging panel in the audition cities. I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and there are some amazing dancers in New York. The episode made me laugh, tear up, and had my jaw dropping. I can’t wait to see it again tonight!

On tonight’s episode, “Auditions No. 1,” top dancers from around the country perform in New York; Stephen “tWitch” Boss joins the judges.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/17/17

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, AMC kicks off the fun new comedy Loaded. The series follows four guys who become millionaires overnight thanks to the massively popular mobile game they created. While the money gives the guys a whole new outlook on life, it also opens up a lot of new problems. Leon (Samuel Anderson, Doctor Who) is the leader of the group and wants to take some time to enjoy their new windfall, Josh (Jim Howick, Broadchurch) is the serious and practical one who’s looking toward the future, Ewan (Jonny Sweet, Babylon) is the socially awkward programmer, and Watto (Nick Helm, Uncle) is the wild one who just wants to have fun. With their company growing, the guys now find themselves dealing with new employee issues and the demands of American investor Casey (Mary McCormack, In Plain Sight). The series also stars Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Skins, Peaky Blinders), Lolly Adefope (Rovers), and Scarlett Alice Johnson (Pramface).

I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere. This series is a lot of fun and totally feels like the UK equivalent to Silicon Valley — you can even map most of these characters to their SV counterparts. This should nicely fill the techie TV show void left by SV’s season finale and will nicely lead up to next month’s final season premiere of Halt and Catch Fire.

On tonight’s premiere, “Lawsuit,” four friends become tech millionaires after selling their hit iPhone game “Cat Factory.”

Meet the four newly rich friends tonight on AMC at 10/9c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/12/17

Jenny’s Choice

I was so happy when I heard the news that this season of So You Think You Can Dance was going to be getting back to the original format. That means dancers ages 18-30 will be in one group and dancing with All-Stars their own age. No more splitting into “stage” and “street” dancers and most importantly, no more kids. I don’t mind watching kids dance, but it just didn’t work the way they tried to do it. Thankfully, not only is the original format back, but so is Mary Murphy at the judges’ table! Joining her and Nigel Lythgoe this season is musician and actress Vanessa Hudgins. I have my fingers crossed that she’ll be better than Paula and Jason were in the previous seasons.

On tonight’s episode, “Los Angeles Auditions #1,” hopefuls perform for the judges, vying for a place in the callback rounds.

See if there are any standout auditions tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/13/15

Jenny’s Choice

sytycd2015smallI’ve been really enjoying this season of So You Think You Can Dance. The split of “street” dancers versus “stage” has been interesting. I think there’s both positive and negative things about the way they’re doing that. On the one hand, it was great seeing the dancers stretch themselves in the genres they weren’t at all familiar with (such as an animator doing contemporary or a contemporary dancer doing hip hop). We found some real stars that way. But on the other hand, I can’t wait to see if they take the street dancers more in-depth in that area, for example. So it’ll be interesting, now that they’ve chosen their top 10 street & stage dancers! My favorites so far are JaJa for street and Jim for stage, but honestly, it’s a great top 20, and I can’t wait to see how the season plays out!

On tonight’s episode, “Top 20 Perform,” it’s the first live show of the season! The Top 20 have been chosen, and now it’s time for the dancers to show America they have what it takes to win.

To watch the Top 20 give it everything they’ve got and to see a special guest performer take the stage, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.
