If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/9/14

We’re counting down the days till Christmas, and I’ve been enjoying all the Food Network Christmas episodes of their shows as I make lists and get ready for the big day (which, in our case, is the 21st, since that’s when my mom, sister, & brother-in-law will be here). We’re also gearing up for my kid’s trip to London on the 27th. So yeah, busy time around here! That means I’m loving settling down on the couch under a blanket and watching all the great TV. To that end, check out our recommendations on what you should be watching tonight.

Jenny’s Choice

groundfloor129smallI’m so happy because the season premiere of Ground Floor on TBS is on tonight, and that’s my pick. We were introduced last season to Brody—a banker who works on one of the top floors of the building—and Jenny—who works maintenance on the…well, the ground floor (basement? *shrug*). They didn’t let that stop them from beginning a relationship, much to the disappointment of “Harvard,” who works with Jenny and fancies himself in love with her. His brilliantly sarcastic boss, Mansfield (played by the fantastic John C. McGinley), tried to persuade Brody that he needed to focus on work, and he thought he’d succeeded in the finale when he promoted Brody and had him moving to China…but at the very last second, Brody chose to go with Jenny to Paris instead…and got fired because of it.

So now that Brody doesn’t have a job with Mansfield anymore, what will happen? From the preview I’ve seen, I have a good idea, but I can’t wait to see how it plays out. I simply adored Skylar Astin & Briga Heelan as Brody & Jenny, and I love John C. McGinley & Mansfield. The rest of the cast is great too, so I have high hopes for season two!

On tonight’s episode, “Unforgiven,” when they return from Paris, Brody has to face the music for abandoning Mansfield, and Jenny has to deal with the fact a spurned Harvard has fired almost everyone on the ground floor. Getting back in Mansfield’s good books will be harder than Brody ever imagined, especially now that the number-smart but people-challenged Lindsay has already taken his place.

To see if Brody can get back into Mansfield’s good graces, tune in to TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MasterChef: Junior, MasterChef Canada, Chopped, Chrisley Knows Best, Forever, & Benched.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/18/14

It started snowing here on Sunday, and it honestly has been snowing on and off since, but thankfully it’s mild out. The kids have been having fun with all the snow because it’s perfect for packing and making a snowman. It’s kind of bittersweet because Chloe, who is 9 now, has started to argue about wearing snow pants and how “uncool” they are. *sigh* My baby girl is growing up. That said, she has to wear them! While I hang the wet outdoor clothes up to dry and tuck my little snow bunnies into bed let’s see what we’re recommending tonight.

Megan’s Choice

themindyproject1118smallThe Mindy Project is still making me laugh week after week, and in a world of stress and craziness, that’s exactly what we all need. Last week, we watched as Danny freaked out over Mindy downloading movies illegally on his computer, because he said it’s stealing. This is part of the reason I love this show, because they allow these two to have small little disagreements that normal couples do, which makes them anything but boring. We also met Danny’s mom, Annette, who Mindy took out for shopping trip like most girlfriends do with the possible future mother-in-law. It was on that shopping trip that Mindy was faced with a moral dilemma when she saw Annette shoplifting, then later giving the stolen bomber jacket to Danny. Mindy confronted Annette, but she got upset, and so did Danny…until the ink exploded in his jacket, making him realize that Mindy was being honest. He tried to make her return the jacket to the store but then realized that she could face jail time, so they all ran—hilarious. Seriously, though, kids… Don’t steal! Overall, it was an amusing episode all around, and I am still loving every minute.

On tonight’s episode, “Diary of a Mad Indian Woman,” Mindy is forced to act as a mentor to the residents at the hospital, and Danny gets himself into trouble when he finds, and can’t help but read, Mindy’s diary.

To see how much trouble Danny is in, tune in to FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching NCIS, NCIS: NOLA, Forever, The Voice, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., New Girl, Person of Interest, Chopped, and MasterChef: Junior.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/9/14

This dang summer cold sucks. I’m still coughing, although not nearly as much or as often, but in the process, I’ve bruised my ribs or pulled my muscles around my chest and back. Something. It’s incredibly painful. *sigh* I’ll still be curled up tonight, wishing I felt better, so check out what I’ll be watching, as well as what Megan & Kyle are recommending.

Jenny’s Choice

sullivan&son99smallTonight is the season finale of Sullivan & Son on TBS. Last week was kinda huge… Steve met the perfect woman—a lawyer, likes basketball, likes one of his favorite old sandwich joints. He kept going to Melanie for help and insider info on picking up women, and it worked. But right at the end, he was getting ready to leave to meet her and was talking to Mel, telling her everything that was perfect about the woman, and she said something about the perfect woman being right under your nose sometimes. He froze and turned back to her, then rushed back to her and kissed her, realizing she was right… The perfect woman WAS right under his nose! I’m a big fan of the show and I’ve been a Steve/Melanie shipper since the beginning, so I’m hoping this isn’t something they’re going to just throw away by making them realize it was a mistake or Melanie dreamed it or something. We’ll see, I guess!

On tonight’s episode, “You, Me, and Gary,” after the kiss, Melanie and Steve want to keep their new thing quiet, but Melanie’s nosy neighbor Gary isn’t one to keep secrets. John Michael Higgins (Happily Divorced) guest stars.

See how the season ends tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Fighters, MasterChef Canada, 19 Kids & Counting, America’s Got Talent, Hotel Hell, Married at First Sight, Chopped, Little People Big World, & Wizard Wars.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/10/13

Happy Tuesday! I’m so excited because we’re one day closer to Christmas. I love having our tree and lights up. It makes it feel so festive in here. Before we give you our recommendations, I have to say that Kyle got me to watch Come Dine With Me on Lifetime, and that show has now become one of my favorites. It’s SO freakin’ funny. You guys have to check it out if you didn’t already. Now, here’s what we’re recommending for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

trophywife1210smallI absolutely adore Trophy Wife. The cast is great, the stories are always funny, and I just love how the characters interact. Last week, Dennis Haysbert (The Unit) guest starred as a father of one of the students from Warren’s class. During a class trip, Kate decided to set him up with Diane so she’d maybe get the stick out of her…behind. 😉 What Kate didn’t know was Diane and Russ Bradley Morrison had been seeing each other for a while on the sly. She almost messed it up for them, but Diane manned up and told him in front of everyone that she liked him.

On tonight’s episode, “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” Pete, Kate, Diane and Jackie wake up Christmas morning hung-over and the house in complete disaster. They try to piece together the events of last night’s Christmas Eve festivities while also trying to save Christmas for the kids. Phyllis Smith (The Office) guest stars.

Find out what they did after a few too many drinks tonight on ABC at 9:31/8:31c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., NCIS, NCIS: LA (guest starring Andrew Leeds, from Bones in his first appearance here!), The Goldbergs, Chopped, Marshal Law: Texas, & Chicago Fire.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/10/13

Happy Tuesday! Today is the busiest day of my week for TV. That’s good, because I’m busy working on stuff that I can do while I watch. Yay for multitasking! So to help you sort through what is a very busy night of new TV, we have some recommendations for you. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #1

rizzoliisles910smallI’m so sad because tonight is the summer finale for Rizzoli & Isles. It’s been an interesting season so far, especially with the Maura & her father story line and the addition of Lt. Martinez and the obvious chemistry between him and Jane. I’m glad nothing happened between them, though, since I love her with Casey. Here’s hoping that tonight’s episode doesn’t screw that up! Last week, my heart broke for the young woman who watched her mother die during her mock trial event. I did love how Jane & the gang fooled the crooked warden by Jane pretending to have…female problems. LOL It works every time! 😉

I’m also curious as to how the show is going to handle Lee Thompson Young’s death. Have they already filmed all of this season, or had they just done up to the summer finale? If they’ve already filmed the entire season, then they have a while to figure it out. If not, they don’t have a lot of time. I don’t think we’ll see anything about his character’s end on the show tonight, but it’s food for thought.

On tonight’s episode, “Partners in Crime,” the squad rushes to solve a violent homicide case muddled by conflicting evidence. Maura is burdened with the major decision of whether to take in her recently paroled grandfather (guest star Richard Herd). Meanwhile, Jane and Casey (guest star Chris Vance) are forced to decide between their careers and their romantic relationship.

Find out what decision Maura makes and how Jane and Casey leave their relationship tonight on TNT at 9/8c.
