Kyle’s Choice
Last week on Suits, the event that we’ve been building to over the last four and a half seasons finally kicked off: Mike’s trial for impersonating a lawyer. Harvey and Jessica had convinced Mike to do a practice mock trial in front of the firm, and the proceedings led to some intense moments between Harvey and Mike. However, the mock trial was interrupted by Anita Gibbs, who showed up to announce that she had gotten the trail date moved up. Meanwhile, Harvey’s plan to ship Sheila out of the country so she couldn’t testify backfired, and Gibbs threatened to go after him for witness tampering if Sheila didn’t return from Argentina. At the trial, Gibbs put Donna on the stand, and she was forced to plead the fifth so as to not incriminate herself, which didn’t look good for Mike. Harvey was able to score some points by convincing Mike’s former client Jimmy to testify that Mike went to Harvard with him (which was a total lie). Gibbs tried to convince the jury that Jimmy was perjuring himself, but did she do enough?
Things aren’t looking great for Mike – he needs to be able to testify but not end up on the stand himself. He wants to switch and represent himself, as this will allow him to not only achieve that but also help the jury see him as a lawyer. However, will he and Harvey be able to convince the judge to allow them to make this switch? Even so, do they have a chance at winning this case? Will Louis crumble under Gibbs’s pressure and make a deal with her in exchange for immunity? It’s amazing that a show can still be this tense and enjoyable five seasons in. I never thought we’d actually get to this case, but I’m so glad we have, because this has been really exciting to watch!
On tonight’s episode, “Tick Tock,” Louis considers Anita Gibbs’s offer to turn on his compatriots; Rachel advises Mike on how to win hearts and minds in the courtroom; Donna begs Harvey to not do anything rash, while Jessica thinks he should; and Harvey and Mike contemplate a new strategy.
