If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/9/14

This dang summer cold sucks. I’m still coughing, although not nearly as much or as often, but in the process, I’ve bruised my ribs or pulled my muscles around my chest and back. Something. It’s incredibly painful. *sigh* I’ll still be curled up tonight, wishing I felt better, so check out what I’ll be watching, as well as what Megan & Kyle are recommending.

sullivan&son99smallTonight is the season finale of Sullivan & Son on TBS. Last week was kinda huge… Steve met the perfect woman—a lawyer, likes basketball, likes one of his favorite old sandwich joints. He kept going to Melanie for help and insider info on picking up women, and it worked. But right at the end, he was getting ready to leave to meet her and was talking to Mel, telling her everything that was perfect about the woman, and she said something about the perfect woman being right under your nose sometimes. He froze and turned back to her, then rushed back to her and kissed her, realizing she was right… The perfect woman WAS right under his nose! I’m a big fan of the show and I’ve been a Steve/Melanie shipper since the beginning, so I’m hoping this isn’t something they’re going to just throw away by making them realize it was a mistake or Melanie dreamed it or something. We’ll see, I guess!

On tonight’s episode, “You, Me, and Gary,” after the kiss, Melanie and Steve want to keep their new thing quiet, but Melanie’s nosy neighbor Gary isn’t one to keep secrets. John Michael Higgins (Happily Divorced) guest stars.

See how the season ends tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Fighters, MasterChef Canada, 19 Kids & Counting, America’s Got Talent, Hotel Hell, Married at First Sight, Chopped, Little People Big World, & Wizard Wars.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/1/14

I kind of hate Tuesdays even more than Mondays. On Mondays, I’m typically ready for my family to go back to work or whatever they’re doing. 😉 On Tuesday, though, I can see that it’s still a long ways off from the next weekend, which I hate. *laugh* So yeah. I’m a bit of a mess today. But something that does make me happy are all the great new episodes tonight, so check out our recommendations.

sullivan2012smallLast season on Sullivan & Son, we learned that Steve’s sister, Susan, was married. For the whole first season, I swear we thought she was single, which was why her mom kept harping on her because she’d never find a husband. Either I’m remembering wrong or they changed it up during the second season. Regardless, last week’s premiere definitely pushed the fact that she is definitely married. They were celebrating their anniversary, but she let it slip that he’d never given her an orgasm, so he set out to first kill himself, but then decided to learn how to pleasure her. In the end, Owen let it slip that he’d slept with Susan during high school and had given her many of them. Both Steve and Jason wanted to kill him, but in the end, Steve got to junk-punch Owen and Jason gave Susan a new mini-van AND the big O, so everyone was happy.

Then in the second episode, the gang felt bad when a woman came into the bar and said her husband, Frank, had died and he’d been a fixture in the bar for years and he loved everyone. The guys at the bar tried to scam money from her by pretending to be her husband’s friends and saying he would have wanted them to go to Atlantic City. Ok Cha tried to take her money when she offered to pay for her husband’s bar tab and then tried to charge her for holding a memorial there at the bar. In the end, it turned out Frank hadn’t actually been a regular, that it was the story he’d told his wife while he’d had a 10-year affair. When Steve couldn’t keep the secret anymore, the wife thanked the mistress for making her husband happy, and the gang got nothing. It was a fun two episodes, and I’m looking forward to tonight’s new one.

On tonight’s episode, “About a Boy, His Mother, and the Man They’re Dating,” when Carol reconnects with the handsome Daryl (guest star Charles Shaughnessy), she is suddenly into the idea of having a boyfriend. However, her son Owen also wants a lot of time with Daryl, and now Carol and Owen find themselves fighting over time with the same man. Meanwhile, Ok Cha battles Roy in a spicy food eating contest that captivates the entire bar.

See who wins (both the man and the eating contest) tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Next Great Baker, Rizzoli & Isles, Royal Pains, Buddy’s Bakery Rescue, & Chopped.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/22/13

Earlier this week, TiVo released its newest DVR, a six-tuner masterpiece called the Roamio—presumably because it lets you watch your recorded shows remotely on your iPhone or iPad. With the upcoming fall season, having 6 tuners would be any TV addict’s dream—it would be wonderful to never have to worry about conflicting shows ever again! But enough drooling over something I have no plans to buy. Let’s talk about what we recommend you check out tonight (using your now-inferior DVRs).

wilfred822smallI have no idea how the writers of Wilfred come up with these wacky story ideas, but they always end up hilarious. Last week, it was a game of wits between Ryan and Wilfred—each trying to further escalate the mind games being played on the other. What started off with Wilfred trying to trick Ryan into buying him some meatballs from a restaurant from which he was banned escalated into Ryan trying to make Wilfred think he’d had him neutered, to Wilfred pretending to explore his feminine side, to Wilfred trying to neuter Ryan with a knife, and finally, Ryan getting Wilfred to eat some not-quite-meat balls. Once all the mind games were over, Ryan got back to investigating the revelation that it was his sister Kristen who drew the picture of Wilfred as a child. While exploring the drawing for clues, Ryan scratched away a portion to reveal a mysterious symbol.

This season, Wilfred has been introducing some great new unexpected twists and turns while also maintaining the fun. What does this whole turn of events with Ryan’s sister mean? Did she see Wilfred when she was younger, and how about now? Is this some crazy illness that runs in the family? What is this symbol on the drawing, and what does it mean?

On tonight’s episode, “Stagnation,” Wilfred’s obsession with a forbidden love jeopardizes Ryan’s living situation.

Find out who Wilfred’s forbidden love is tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Rookie Blue, Hollywood Game Night, Burn Notice, Graceland, Supermarket Superstar, Childrens Hospital, and NTSF:SD:SUV::.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/1/13

I can’t believe it’s already August—next month, the fall TV lineup will be back! I’m still struggling to keep up with the summer line-up, so I don’t know how I’m going to tackle all those new and returning shows! I think it’s time I start thinking about paring down my TV season passes! But since that’s still a couple of months away, let’s talk about what we recommend checking out tonight.

hollywoodgamenightsmallWhy host your own game night when, every Thursday, you can just join the fun at Jane Lynch’s Hollywood Game Night?! Each week, Jane invites some amazing celebrities—and I like that these are actual celebrities and not six “celebrities” made up of athletes, “real housewives,” and other reality TV “stars.” Each episode is always filled with fun and hilarity, and features a nice variety of games that are just challenging enough, but not overly difficult. My favorite game is probably “Doo Doo,” where the contestants must get their teammates to identify a song while only singing the word “Doo.”

On tonight’s episode, “Purr-ty People,” the celebrity players are Tom Arnold, Stacy Keibler, Patricia Heaton, Rose Byrne, Anthony Anderson, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Included: Contestants must identify cat-theme movie moments.

Watch the hilarity tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Rookie Blue, Wilfred, The Hero, Burn Notice, Childrens Hospital, and NTSF:SD:SUV::.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/27/13

I can’t believe San Diego Comic-Con is only three weeks away–I’m excited and a bit overwhelmed, They haven’t even released the schedule yet, and I’m already stressing out about how I’m going to make it to all the panels I want to see—and when I’m actually going to sleep. But enough about my problems other people probably wish they had. Let’s get to what we think you should check out on TV tonight.

idsastersmallSyfy has moved their Saturday original movies to Thursdays for the summer, and tonight is the premiere of Independence Daysaster. It is July 4th and the President (Tom Everett Scott, Southland, That Thing You Do) is returning to his hometown to see his son (Keenan Tracey, Bates Motel) and brother (Ryan Merriman, Pretty Little Liars, Final Destination 3), when Earth is suddenly attacked by aliens. Now it is up to the President of the United States and his fireman brother to save the planet. While the film’s premise is awfully similar to Independence Day, I still found it different enough. It is a nice mix of action, drama, and humor, and certainly of higher quality than the typical Syfy original movie.

Find out if this unique family can save the world tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Rookie Blue, Hell’s Kitchen, Does Someone Have to Go?, Wilfred, Chopped, The Hero, Burn Notice, Graceland, and The Graham Norton Show.
