If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/10/14

What a week. Temperatures here in Kansas got up high again yesterday—although 91 isn’t as high as it got a few weeks ago—but for the next few days, it’s supposed to be cooler—in fact, today’s supposed to be 75, then 70 on Thursday, and a whopping 59 on Friday. So I’m going to thoroughly enjoy the nice cool weather the rest of the week! As for tonight, there’s some great stuff on, so I’ll be camped out in front of the TV while I stay cool in the AC. Check out what Kyle & I are recommending.

rowhouseshowdownsmallIt’s been a fun season of Rowhouse Showdown. You probably know by now that I’m not a fan of Josh & Geoff—at all… Last week, Josh got it into his head that Katie & Dan had overspent their budget, so he tattled as quick as he could to Carter. I’m not saying he shouldn’t have brought it up if he truly thought they had—it’s a competition, and if someone cheats, you gotta call ’em on it—but the glee with which he did it showed once again how little character the guy has. If I were Katie or Dan, I’d have been thumbing my nose at him, singing nah-nah-nah-boo-boo, when Carter announced that he’d gone through their receipts and they were under budget, not over. Thankfully, they played it cool. But because of their poor decision to paint, rather than stain, their outside stairs and their missing $1K because Josh & Geoff had taken it from them the week before, their curb appeal was judged least impressive and they lost. It made me sad, because by far, they’re my favorite team.

Tonight is the season finale, and I can’t wait to find out who takes home the prize. I want Katie & Dan to win, especially because they really tried to make the house a home for a family, rather than just some (sometimes odd) sense of style. I’ll be very unhappy if Josh & Geoff win, and I highly doubt the Miami girls will win, so definitely crossing my fingers!

On tonight’s episode, “Finale!” an open house is held for all of the houses to celebrate the work that was put into rejuvenating the neighborhood; attendees are asked to vote on their favorite house, and one room ruins chances for one of the teams; that team is to fix the problem.

Find out which team’s room ruins their chances and which team comes out on top tonight on FYI at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, America’s Got Talent, Mystery Diners, Hot in Cleveland, Tiny House Nation, Top Chef Duels, & Wahlburgers.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/16/14

It’s Hump Day! That means not only are we looking at some great shows, but also it’s midway through the week, so we’re that much closer to the weekend! Yay! 🙂 Kyle’s catching up on shows from earlier in the week, so Megan and I are here to give you our recommendations.

Jenny’s Choice #1

hotincleveland716smallLast week on Hot in Cleveland, the ladies learned that Elka had written a play. They decided to go see it, and there, they learned it was about them and when they moved in. The characters were all basically caricatures. All their “worst” features were exaggerated. “Melanie” was way too perky and wanted people to like her. “Victoria” was self-centered and all about telling people she was famous. Last but certainly not lease, “Joy” was actually played by a man. The ladies were really offended and embarrassed, so they left early. In the end, they went back because they wanted to see how the play ended. They were shocked when Elka had ended the play by thanking them for shaking up her world. It was cute.

On tonight’s episode, “Auction Heroes,” Joy decides to finally tell Mitch how she feels, but a handsome yet scheming dating coach gets in the way. Meanwhile, Victoria is surprisingly taken with a very Cleveland-y screenwriter. Tim Daly, Coby Bell, & Dan Lauria guest star.

Find out if Joy is able to tell Mitch her feelings tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/2/14

Allergies were kicking my butt yesterday. My eyes itched and burned all day, making me feel tired, even though I wasn’t. I have a feeling today will be more of the same. On a good note, that means less time on the computer and more time watching TV, so it’s not all bad! 😉 Megan’s taking the day off, so check out Kyle’s and my recommendations for what to watch tonight.

hotincleveland72smallLast week on Hot in Cleveland, Joy met her new boss, played by cutie Tim Daly. She fell hard for him immediately, promptly calling her own house phone and leaving a message stating that she’d just met the man she was going to marry. Unfortunately for her, he met Melanie shortly after and fell hard for her, not Joy—so much so that Joy decided to step back and not tell Melanie or Mitch how she felt. Meanwhile, Elka hired a statistics expert to help her out with her campaign, and with his help, she took over as favorite for the city council. And to everyone’s surprise, Victoria was nominated for an Oscar!

On the first of tonight’s two episodes, “People Feeding People,” Melanie gets strong-armed into going on a date with Ross Barkley in order to help Elka get his endorsement for City Council, and while Mitch continues in his efforts to get over Melanie, Joy is forced to hide her feelings for him. Then in the second episode, “Murder House,” during a major storm, the ladies are stuck inside with Victoria’s island boyfriend, Melanie’s downer friend, and Joy’s mother; meanwhile, Elka believes that the ghost of a murdered woman has come back seeking her revenge. Chevy Chase, Tim Daly, & Rob Schneider guest star.

To see how Joy hides her feelings and what craziness ensues at the “murder house,” tune in to TV Land at 10/9c & 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Cousins Undercover, So You Think You Can Dance, Young & Hungry, Mystery Girls, Restaurant Stakeout, & Taxi Brooklyn.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/25/14

I’m a little behind on TV, so I just watched TNT’s The Last Ship. Really a great premiere setting up what should be a fantastic series. There’s some more good stuff on tonight, including several premieres, so to help you narrow it down, check out our picks for the night.

taxibrooklyn625smallNBC’s latest cop drama, Taxi Brooklyn, stars Chyler Leigh, from Grey’s Anatomy. She plays hard-as-nails Det. Caitlyn “Cat” Sullivan, a woman hell-bent on finding her father’s killer. After she’s demoted to foot patrol for reckless driving, disobeying orders, and personality conflicts, she meets taxi driver Leo Romba (Jacky Ido). A highly skilled driver, Leo is a charming French African from Marseille. Realizing Leo lied on his immigration forms, Cat offers him a deal: In exchange for his driving skills and taxi, she will help Leo with his immigration problem. In order to stay out of prison and avoid deportation, Leo agrees to partner with Cat and quickly becomes her personal driver, consultant, and friend as they race through the streets of New York solving cases and trying to uncover the mystery behind her father’s murder. It also stars Ally Walker (Profiler, The Protector) & Jennifer Esposito (Blue Bloods).

I love the premise of this, and the preview looked really good. Plus, Chyler Leigh is adorable, and I love Ally Walker and Jennifer Esposito, so I’m excited about the cast. Just like I’ve been jonesing for a good action movie recently, since the regular season ended, I’ve missed a good cop show that isn’t quite as focused on relationships. Hopefully, this one will fill the void.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” when Det. Caitlyn Sullivan is demoted to foot patrol for her reckless driving and a propensity for disobeying orders, she is forced to make a deal with a former wheelman turned taxi driver named Leo to help her solve the murder of her father.

See how Det. Sullivan handles her demotion tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing So You Think You Can Dance, Young & Hungry, Mystery Girls, Restaurant Stakeout, Hot in Cleveland, Motive, & Jennifer Falls.
