Looks like it’s just me today recommending what you should check out tonight. And since I always watch the Oscars, I wanted to just mention that there are some other things for those who don’t like awards shows—there’s The Amazing Race, The Walking Dead, and full lineups on HBO and Food Network to check out. I’m always jealous of those West Coasters for whom it’s still early enough to watch other primetime shows once the ceremony is over.
Kyle’s Choice
There are only four award shows that I watch every year, and the Oscars is one of them. This year, The 86th Annual Academy Awards will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, so I’m expecting it to be a lot of fun, as she is always so hilarious. Once again, this year, I’ve managed to see all of the Best Picture nominated films, and once again, I was severely underwhelmed. Out of those nominated, I really enjoyed Gravity and Captain Phillips, with Philomena and 12 Years a Slave close behind. However, the others—Her, American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyers Club and Nebraska—I wouldn’t have even nominated for “Good Picture,” let alone “Best Picture.” A few of them started off okay, but I quickly grew so bored—and in the case of Nebraska, there’s no reason a black and white film should ever be made now that we have color technology!
Since I never really care about the nominees, I primarily watch the Oscars for everything else—the jokes, the speeches, the musical performances, etc. And speaking of the music, one things I’m excited to see tonight is Idina Menzel’s live performance of the Oscar-nominated song “Let It Go,” from Frozen. (If that song doesn’t take home the award tonight, I’ll be shocked.)
Be sure to check it all out tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c.
I’ll also be watching/recording The Amazing Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, The Walking Dead, and Looking.
