If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/10/13

There has been some incredibly insane weather around here, with some parts of Ontario getting a month’s worth of rain in just an hour! This is on top of the flooding in Alberta that recently took place. Our thoughts go out to all who are affected. On a lighter note, let’s see what’s on television tonight.

Megan’s Choice

masterchef2012smallMasterChef has been having a really good season, and I missed it last week. Last episode, we watched the contestants battle it out while cooking for a wedding, and it was an up-and-down situation. In the end, it left Lynn and Jonny competing during the elimination challenge of making macaroons. They are such delicate cookies, and Jonny couldn’t handle being gentle under pressure and he was eliminated. I was sad because I really liked him!

On tonight’s episode, “11 Chefs Compete/10 Chefs Compete,” actress and restaurateur Eva Longoria surprises the contestants and selects Mexican-inspired ingredients for the mystery box challenge. The contestant who creates the most impressive restaurant-quality dish will determine which food basket each of the remaining contestants will receive in the elimination round. Later, in the team challenge, the home cooks hit the beach and cook fish tacos for more than 100 hungry surfers. The surfers will determine the winning team, who will earn a huge surprise: tickets to the 2013 MLB All-Star Game in New York City, airing Tuesday, July 16, on FOX. Meanwhile, the losing team faces a pressure test and must cook a perfect chicken breast three ways. In the end, two more contestants will go home.

To see how your favorite does, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The American Baking Competition, Camp, The Bridge, and America’s Got Talent.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/3/13

Yikes, I can’t believe two weeks from now, I’ll be in San Diego for Comic-Con—I’ve got so much planning to get done before then! Tomorrow is the 4th of July, and most Americans have the day off (sorry, Canada…you had your turn on Monday). Tonight and tomorrow night are extremely light nights for new TV, but we’ve still got a couple suggestions on what you can check out tonight to kick off tomorrow’s break from work.

franklinandbash73smallLast week on Franklin & Bash, the guys had to defend Peter’s mother, who had been arrested under charges of prostitution. In a very awkward interplay for Peter, the guys discovered that she had been working as a sex surrogate. Meanwhile, Jarrod was sleeping with Ellen, the DA prosecuting the case—and he was taking advantage of the situation to learn about the opposition’s case.

I have been really enjoying this new season of Franklin & Bash. I was a little worried when I heard that Heather Locklear was joining the cast, but the show is just as wacky and fun as ever. I like how the series takes a lighter approach to the the cases and subject matter, but doesn’t feel like a watered-down legal drama or an over-the-top sitcom—it’s just a smart, fun show.

On tonight’s episode, “Captain Johnny,” the guys defend a fisherman, and Rachel takes on a wrongful-termination case that involves a psychic. Elsewhere, Peter and Jared acquire a curbside sofa.

Find out in the sofa has any unwanted critters tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, The American Baking Competition, Family Tools, and Futurama.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/19/13

I have been spending a lot of time fishing lately, and I have learned a few interesting things about myself. It’s amazing how much we learn about ourselves when we push our comfort zone—unfortunately, how far I push my comfort zone, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to handle putting the bait on the hook myself… Worms feel icky. 🙂 Good thing I have someone who will do it for me, just like I help plan his television schedule! Speaking of schedules, let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

americanbakingcompetitionsmallAt first, I was skeptical about whether or not CBS would be able to pull of a baking show, but with The American Baking Competition, they proved to me that they can! I have really been enjoying the level of challenges on this show, as well as Jeff Foxworthy’s hosting—he is actually quite funny. Last week’s cake challenges were tough, but I loved all the surprise cakes at the end, especially Kolette’s checkered cake. I now want to challenge myself to make an awesome checkered cake like that.

On tonight’s episode, “Breads,” the contestants must bake and present bread to the toughest judge of all—Paul Hollywood; one contestant add red-hots to her bread.

To see whose bread rises above the rest, tune in to CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef, Franklin & Bash, and Hot in Cleveland.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/5/13

As I write this, I am sitting here itching like crazy—the stupid mosquitoes and black flies are ridiculous this year. It’s almost better to stay inside! The worst is when they bite the top of your toes, because it’s near impossible to scratch properly. Seriously, I’m going nutty. (Ok…nuttier than usual. 😉 ) While I sit here and complain about my stupid bug bites, let’s see what’s on TV to distract me from scratching.

americanbakingcompetitionsmallLast week, I tuned in to watch the premiere of The American Baking Competition, hosted by the hilarious Jeff Foxworthy, and I wasn’t disappointed. That was one hard challenge, because pie is no joke—especially in the States. You all take your pie seriously. Truth be told, I wanted to be a taste tester for those pies, but I’m sure my butt wouldn’t appreciate it. 🙂

On tonight’s episode, “Cookies,” one baker gets burned for lying to the judges; another baker’s cookies receive rave reviews; a baker crumbles under the pressure.

To see whose cookies get burnt, tune in to CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef, Baby Daddy, Melissa & Joey, and The Lookout.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/29/13

It’s been a hectic few weeks around here, and I’m looking forward to a few nights of peace and quiet. Tonight, I’m going to curl up with a cup of tea and a few hours of good television, so let’s see what you should be watching with me.

Megan’s Choice

americanbakingcompetitionsmallI really enjoy shows that revolve around cooking competitions, such as MasterChef or Iron Chef America. Now there’s a new one to tune in to. The American Baking Competition premieres tonight on CBS.

The 10 bakers were chosen from a nationwide search of amateur bakers at local casting bake-offs. Proving the joy of baking’s broad appeal, the six female and four male home bakers have varied lives and jobs, including a firefighter, photographer, homemaker, attorney, advertiser, home health care provider, college student, retiree, project manager, and a baking enthusiast trying to go pro. Each week, the show will feature these passionate home bakers competing in three unique challenges: “Signature Bake,” “Technical Bake,” and “Showstopper Bake.” The contestant who out-bakes the rest is that week’s “Star Baker,” while the one whose creations fail to impress is eliminated. The final challenge will be between the three remaining contestants, one of whom will go on to be crowned the best amateur baker in America and win the $250,000 grand prize. The winner will also be awarded a publishing contract with Simon & Schuster to publish their own cookbook with Gallery Books. It’s being hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, who is always amusing, so tune in and check it out.

On the premiere episode, “Pies and Tarts,” amateur bakers compete in various challenges.

To drool over all the yummy baked goods while these bakers compete, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef.
