If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/11/13

First, I want to say that we all need to take a moment out of our day and just think about the events twelve years ago, when so many people lost their lives in NY, Washington, & Pennsylvania. It’s been a long twelve years for the U.S. (and the world in general), so let’s be thankful for what we have and remember those that aren’t so fortunate.

Now, I’m SO excited about last night’s So You Think You Can Dance results. I would’ve been okay with any of the four winning, but the two I’d picked from almost the beginning pulled it out in the end and took home the crowns. Since I’m still riding that high, let’s check in to see what we recommend tonight! 🙂

topchefmasters911smallI don’t enjoy Top Chef Masters as much as the original Top Chef (the egos are so much bigger on some of them, I swear!), but I’m also not enjoying this season as much as I did the previous one I watched. It feels almost disjointed because of the sous chef stuff. That being said, I still love watching it. I’m a cooking show junkie, what can I say? 😉 I think my favorite chef has to be Bryan Voltaggio. He’s adorable (reminding me a little bit of Jason Dohring (Logan on Veronica Mars) in looks. I did like Sang Yoon, but he’s become even more of a control freak and kind of a jerk than he was, and I find myself looking for the greatness that is supposed to be David Burke. I have no doubt that both are amazing chefs, but for some reason, I don’t think this show has brought out the best in either of them—and last week, I thought Sang should’ve gone home instead of Neal. I also like Douglas, although not as much as Bryan.

On tonight’s episode, “Lucha Vavoom,” the winner of this week’s Battle of the Sous Chefs challenge, along with their “Top Chef Master,” get to create today’s Quickfire. Then, the chefs face a culinary body slam, as they create dishes with a Mexican flair for the wrestlers of Lucha Vavoom. Que sabroso!

Find out which chefs come out on top and which one goes home tonight on Bravo at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, MasterChef, Modern Dads, & Thieves, Inc..

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/7/13

I can’t believe that we are in August already, because that means school is just around the corner—it really is the most magical time of the year. 🙂 Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids, but holy cow, it’s been it’s been a long summer. While I daydream about a kid-free coffee break, let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

masterchef2012smallMasterChef has been taking us on an emotional rollercoaster this season, especially last week. I was sobbing in my living room last week because there was no one there for Krissi. Everyone else’s family member walked out from under the mystery box, and then they showed her a video of her son instead. Poor Krissi looked so heartbroken. On a different note, Krissi and Natasha kicked ass in the sushi challenge—putting Luca in his place. I like Krissi and hope she wins.

On tonight’s episode, “Top 6 Compete,” previously eliminated contestants get the chance to get back in the competition by perfectly frying an egg and preparing a salmon dish.

To see which previous contestant gets to come back, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Top Chef Masters and The Bridge.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/17/13

By the time this posts, I’ll be en route to San Diego for Comic-Con. I’m both excited and a bit stressed—there’s just so much going on and there’s not enough time (and it’s completely impossible) to do everything. But what I’m really looking forward to is meeting the cast of Breaking Bad—I won a ticket to the fan celebration event on Sunday afternoon! 🙂 But enough about my trip—TV doesn’t stop for Comic-Con. Tonight, there’s a lot on, and we’ve got some suggestions for you to check out.

futuramasmallI have been excited for tonight’s episode of Futurama ever since one of the writers tweeted about it last fall. Every season, the series has one anthology episode comprised of a trio of short stories. One of my favorite episodes of Futurama was one of these anthology episodes, which featured 80’s video game characters. Tonight’s episode, “Saturday Morning Fun Pit,” finds the Planet Express crew starring in three different styles of 1980s Saturday-morning cartoons—Scooby-Doo, G.I. Joe, and Strawberry Shortcake. Being someone who watched a lot of 80s cartoons growing up, I can’t wait to see this parody/homage. I can’t believe we only have a few episodes left of the series!

See your favorites from the 80s tonight on Comedy Central at 10/9c.

I’ll also be recording Big Brother, Camp, MasterChef, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy, The Bridge, Franklin & Bash, and Royal Pains.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/3/12

Wednesday already! This week is flying by, and I for one cannot believe that it’s already October—before we know it ,we’re going to be decorating for Christmas! Egads! Now, before we all start having a holiday panic, let’s see what’s on television tonight to keep us relaxed on this fabulous fall day. (Side note: TV is a little slow tonight because of the Presidential Debate, so it may be more relaxing than you want.)

Supernatural returns tonight, and I am very excited—after all, what is a week without a visit with the sexy Winchester brothers? This show has been bordering on cancelations for so many seasons, but the faithful fans have kept it afloat, and now we are being paid with delicious dramatic episodes that make us cry, laugh, and gasp all at once. The relationship between Sam and Dean is always full of surprises, but at the heart of it, we are treated to an amazing display of brotherly love.

When we left our demon-hunting heroes, they had battled Dick, had struggles with Castiel, and teamed up with a prophet named Kevin—and we ended with Dean headed to Purgatory. What a tangled web, and I wonder what’s going to become of the boys.

On tonight’s premiere, “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” Sam and Dean are reunited after a year apart. Dean re-emerges from Purgatory, but he isn’t alone. He heads straight for Sam, but the reunion isn’t exactly what he thought it would be. Sam drops everything to join his brother, but leaving the life he had grown to enjoy turns out to be harder than he imagined. Dean and Sam look for Kevin (Osric Chau) who has managed to escape Crowley’s grasp, but things come to a head quickly when Kevin tells them what it is that Crowley wants.

To see how the reunion between the boys goes, tune in to The CW at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Supernatural @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Animal Practice, Guys with Kids, Survivor, and The X Factor.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/19/12

Wow, what a great week for TV so far. Last night was new episodes of my favorite new comedy, The New Normal and a great new Sons of Anarchy among others. What did you watch? Did you take our advice? You should. We’re pretty smart. 😉 If not, you get another chance to tonight, because we’re here to tell you four shows we think are worth your time. 😀

I have to admit that I didn’t watch last season of Survivor. I’d become bored by the show. It was the same old thing, and I didn’t get invested in any of the players the last time I watched. Plus, it seemed more and more like they brought on flirty, sexy girls just to have that element for viewers, and frankly, if I wanted to see that, I’d watch other shows that I have no interest in watching. But this season has brought me back to at least the beginning of the season to see how I like it. For one, there are going to be three teams of six instead of two teams of nine. For another, there are three returning contestants—but not just players like Russell Hanz or Ozzy or someone like that. No, they are bringing back Jonathan (finished 14th in Cook Islands and was evacuated because of a horrible, nasty knee infection in Micronesia), Michael (evacuated after he FELL INTO THE FIRE in the Australian Outback season), and Russell (evacuated because of severe dehydration and after passing out and nearly taking his face off on the corner of the wooden game board thing in the Samoa season). I wasn’t a huge fan of Russell’s, but I liked Jonathan, and I loved Michael, so I’m really excited to see how these guys are going to play this time around. Each of them will be on one of the three teams, so I can’t wait to see how the other tribe members treats them.

On tonight’s episode, “Survivor Smacked Me in the Chops,” eighteen new castaways travel to the most treacherous parts of the Philippines to outplay their adversaries while trying to survive among the extremely harsh elements. Three former players removed from the game for medical reasons return for revenge.

Don’t miss the 90-minute premiere tonight on CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Survivor @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Oh Sit!, Top Chef Masters, Restaurant: Impossible, Restaurant Stakeout, & Cajun Pawn Stars.
