Kyle’s Choice
Tonight, FX kicks off the new comedy The Comedians. Comedy legend Billy (Billy Crystal) is reluctantly paired with young up-and-comer Josh (Josh Gad, 1600 Penn, Book of Mormon) to costar in their own late night sketch comedy show. The Comedians is a faux-documentary of what goes on on and off set of The Billy & Josh Show as egos and a generation gap cause the two stars to always be at odds with one another.
The series also stars Stephanie Weir (MADTV), Matt Oberg (Onion News Network), Megan Ferguson (Love & Other Drugs), and comes from writers/executive producers Larry Charles (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld), Matt Nix (Burn Notice), and Ben Wexler (Community, Arrested Development).
I am a big fan of Josh Gad and Billy Crystal’s past work, so I’m really excited to see how these two play off one another. From the ads, the series looks great — not only the show itself but also the sketches within the show within the show. The series also appears to have that same awkward sensibility of a show like Curb Your Enthusiasm, which I really enjoy. I can’t wait for tonight’s premiere!
On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,†Billy Crystal and Josh Gad are reluctantly paired together for a sketch show on FX.
