Tonight I’m looking forward to checking out the new ABC comedy Bless this Mess. When his great-aunt dies and leaves him a farmhouse, Mike (Dax Shepard, Parenthood) and his wife Rio (Lake Bell, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later) decide to leave the hustle and bustle of New York City for a quieter, simpler life in Nebraska. However, when they arrive, they discover that their new home is quite the fixer-upper, and things aren’t going to be as easy and laid-back as they had hoped.

I didn’t have a screener available to check out the show ahead of time, but based on the trailer it looks like it could be really fun – a fish-out-of-water comedy with some The Money Pit thrown into the mix. The cast playing the wacky new neighbors is also great – Ed Begley Jr. (Modern Family), Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), David Koechner (The Goldbergs), Lennon Parham (Playing House), and JT Neal (Lab Rats).

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” newlyweds Rio and Mike drop everything to make the move from New York to rural Nebraska in search of a simpler life, but they quickly realize that becoming farmers isn’t as easy as they had hoped.

Don’t miss this new comedy tonight on ABC at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording American Housewife, The Kids Are Alright, black-ish, The Rookie, The Flash, Fosse/Verdon, and Growing Up Chrisley.

Tonight, NBC’s dramedy Good Girls returns for its second season, picking up immediately where the first season cliffhanger left off. In the first season, we met a trio of friends who had come on hard times and turned to desperate measures to get some quick cash. Seemingly perfect Detroit housewife Beth (Christina Hendricks, Mad Men) discovered that her husband Dean (Mathew Lillard, Scream) had been cheating on her and had mismanaged their money, putting their car dealership in deep financial trouble. Beth’s sister Annie (Mae Whitman, Parenthood) learned that her ex Gregg (Zach Gilford, Friday Night Lights) wanted custody of their teenage daughter, so she needed money for a lawyer. And their friend Ruby (Retta, Parks and Recreation) needed money fast in order to pay for medical treatments for her seriously ill daughter.

The three women staged an armed robbery at the grocery store where Annie worked but discovered afterwards that the store was being used as a front to launder money for a street gang. The women then found themselves at the mercy of gang leader Rio (Manny Montana, Graceland) and were forced to get involved in even more illegal activities in order to pay him back. Meanwhile, neighbor Mary Pat (Allison Tolman, Fargo) figured out what the ladies were up to and started blackmailing Beth, Annie’s sleazy boss Boomer (David Hornsby, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was desperately trying to find hard evidence that the woman were behind the robbery, and Ruby’s police officer husband Stan (Reno Wilson, Mike & Molly) learned the truth about what the women were up to. In an attempt to fix their problems, the women decided to once again rob the grocery store, but this time Beth left a folder of evidence for FBI Agent Turner (James Lesure, Men at Work), which implicated Rio and the street gang. However, the plan backfired. The gang was released on bail, and Beth arrived home to find her husband beaten and tied up. Rio was there – he slid a gun to Beth, stating, “You want to be the king, you gotta kill the king.”

Will Rio kill Dean and/or Beth? Or will Beth have the guts to shoot Rio before he has a chance to? How will the women get out of their predicament – they’ve got the gang, blackmailers, the FBI and Boomer all after them? Will Boomer find the evidence he is desperately looking for in order to get revenge on the women for robbing his store and tying him up in the treehouse? And how will Stan deal with his wife’s illegal activities? Most of those questions will be answered in tonight’s season premiere, which contains the same blend of humor and drama that made the first season so great. The writers also find fun new ways to get the women involved in new capers as they try to prevent themselves from getting caught. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season to see what other crazy twists and turns lie ahead.

On tonight’s season premiere, “I’d Rather Be Crafting,” Beth must live with the fallout after her plan to get Rio arrested fails; the women’s crimes finally catch up with them when evidence surfaces that puts them on a collision course with Agent Turner.

See how the cliffhanger resolves tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Supergirl, The Walking Dead, Worst Cooks in America, Crashing, Black Monday, and SMILF.

It’s been a few weeks since the last new episode of NCIS: LA. In “Smokescreen Pt I,” the team was partnered with the FBI to stop what was believed to be a terrorist cell in Los Angeles. And they did indeed stop a van from blowing up near a military ship anchored at the harbor. (It’s been so long, I can’t remember. Might be a decommissioned ship used as a tourist museum of some sort?) Anyway, long story short, there’s still some terrorists out there, and they had a guy in a suicide vest at a movie theater, and it went kaboom with Sam and Callen inside. Fortunately, Sam and Callen are relatively unhurt. Unfortunately, they and all the other people are trapped inside the theater because the bad guys have explosives on all the outer doors. So Kensi and Deeks are outside dealing with the crowd and the few people who were hurt in the first blast, hoping they don’t suddenly get attacked by sniper fire, while Sam and Callen try to attend to the wounded, even though some people died when the bomb went off and some have since died of their injuries sustained in the explosion. It was a tense episode, and I have no doubt the tense excitement will extend into this week’s new episode as well.

On tonight’s episode, “Smokescreen Pt II,” as the team continues to search for a terrorist cell in Los Angeles, Callen and Sam remain trapped in a movie theater after multiple bombs have detonated and every remaining exit is wired with explosives.

See how Sam and Callen make it out of the theater and if they can all stop the terrorists before more lives are lost tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Private Eyes & Worst Cooks in America.

Last week was the first time we’ve really seen Rossi vulnerable and almost completely defeated on Criminal Minds, and it was kind of heartbreaking to watch. When on a case, Rossi got surprised by the bad guy and was nearly killed. Thankfully, the guy let him live, even if it was for a “look where I had you; I could have killed you” reason. The shocker for me was that the girl at the end was his daughter. He was creepy, and I’ll be anxious to see how the team catches him as the Big Bad in the final season. I did love how involved Crystal, Rossi’s ex-wife/current fiancée was in the story. She was there for him and listened to him as he told the story, and it let us see how she handles his job.

On tonight’s episode, “Sick and Evil,” the BAU leads the investigation into a string of murders taking place in supposedly haunted houses in Lewiston, Maine.

See if they run into any ghosts tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Goldbergs, Schooled, Guy’s Grocery Games, Modern Family, Single Parents, & Match Game.

Tonight, CBS’s Celebrity Big Brother returns for a second season, with 12 new celebrities entering the Big Brother house to compete in a compressed version of the hit reality competition. I really enjoyed the first celebrity season last year, as things move along at a much faster pace than the regular summer show, which is stretched over 3 months instead of just a few weeks.

Julie Chen Moonves will once again be hosting the series, and this year’s batch of house guests includes an actual professional house guest, Kato Kaelin, who’s still stretching out his 15 minutes of fame from the O.J. trial. Also entering the house tonight are actors Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls, Cake Wars), Joey Lawrence (Melissa & Joey, Blossom), & Tom Green (Road Trip); singers and/or reality TV stars Tamar Braxton (The Braxtons), Kandi Burruss (Xscape), and Dina Lohan (Living Lohan); and athletes Lolo Jones (Olympic track and bobsled), Ryan Lochte (swimming Gold medalist), Natalie Eva Marie (WWE wrestler), & Ricky Williams (former NFL superstar). Finally, there’s 10-day White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci.

It looks like another odd mix of folks, though there are several cliques that could be formed or folks who already know one another going into the house. It will be interesting to see who teams up with whom and who ultimately wins the season.

Catch everyone moving in tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, Manifest, The Resident, The Passage, and Arrow.
