Ahh, Thursday. We’re inching ever closer to the weekend, which means we’ll have time to catch up on shows from this week! LOL Kyle’s still out of town and Megan’s feeling sicky, so tonight, it’s JJ & me to give you our recommendations. 😉

Jenny’s Choice

michaeljfox1024smallI’m really enjoying The Michael J. Fox Show. He’s really such a great comedic actor. The rest of the cast is good too, and the story lines are a lot of fun. 🙂 Last week, Mike got Eve an internship at the station in order to get closer to her, but it backfired (at first) when she got bored watching him record voiceovers for something he was doing and she turned to his arch nemesis instead. It all worked out in the end, of course, but watching him storm into the bar when he thought she was really buying alcohol was pretty funny.

On tonight’s episode, “Teammates,” Annie learns that Mike has apologized to a stranger for her hot-headed behavior and demands that he be more of a “team player.” Harris hosts an office karaoke party. With good intentions, Leigh adopts a puppy, but Eve is left in charge. Meanwhile, Ian, still stuck in Graham’s tiny old bedroom, tries to convince his brother to switch back.

Find out if Graham bows to his brother’s pressure tonight on NBC at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, Chopped, The Crazy Ones, Two and a Half Men, Restaurant Divided, & Elementary.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/26/13

Wow, this has been a busy week for new TV—and there are eight more new and returning shows premiering tonight! This week, I’ve had the advantage of having seen screeners for most of the new series, but starting next week, I have no idea how I’m going to keep up with everything! We’ve got some suggestions to help you decide on what to check out tonight.

Kyle’s Choice #1

elementary926smallTonight, Elementary heads across the pond for the premiere of the show’s second season. I really enjoyed the first season—I was a little skeptical at first, with Sherlock already on airing on PBS, but I was immediately won over. Jonny Lee Miller makes a perfect Sherlock Holmes, and I really enjoy the dynamic Lucy Liu brings as a female Watson. The cases are always interesting, the chemistry between the leads is great, and I always enjoy watching them use their powers of deduction to solve the mystery. I’m looking forward to meeting more of the classic Sherlock characters in tonight’s season premiere.

On tonight’s episode, “Step Nine,” Holmes and Watson travel to London to help a former mentor investigate an unsolved mystery. Meanwhile, Sherlock’s estranged brother, Mycroft, reunites with him and reveals some secrets of his own. Rhys Ifans guest stars.

Pilot Watch 2013 – NBC

We’ve done the FOX, ABC, & CBS pilots, but now, Megan, Kyle, and I are back to talk about the NBC pilots for the 2013 season. We’ve each rated them as Watch, Maybe, or Skip, so check out what we have to say.
 

Dracula (Premieres 10/25)

draculasmallJenny: Intriguing, but way too complicated for me. I’m not a fan of period dramas, and maybe I just don’t know my history, but for the life of me, I couldn’t tell when this was supposed to be set. A lot of the acting felt over the top, etc. There’s a reason I don’t watch shows like The Tudors or Game of Thrones, etc. – Skip

Megan: I was expecting to love the whole episode as much as I loved the trailer…but I didn’t. While I still love the idea of the show, I didn’t love the full execution. I found the trailer moving quickly, but the show itself dragged. It’s unfortunate, because I had really high hopes, but now I’m just wondering if it’ll be NBC’s first cancelled show? – Skip

Kyle: I like the 19th century England setting—the production values are really great. The series is like Revenge, if Emily Thorne was a vampire willing to kill to get revenge on corrupt members of the aristocracy and a secret order trying to hunt down vampires. While I wasn’t blown away, I found the series to be an interesting new twist on the classic tale and will check out more. – Maybe

Our Thoughts on the NBC 2013-14 Pilot Trailers

Megan, Kyle, & I have been giving our opinions on the trailers for the new fall shows. You can check out the ones we’ve already posted: ABC & CBS. Now, we’re here to give you our opinions on the NBC shows, starting with the dramas.
 

Dracula

  • Jenny: I started to mark this one as Most Likely 1 and Done, but…it’s vampires. My problem with it is the historical aspect of it. I’m not a fan of shows set way back when, so I have a feeling that will override my love of vampires. Therefore, I’m putting this as Curious. It looks like if it’s done right, it’ll be good for those people who don’t mind the historical aspect. We’ll see… – Curious.
  • Megan: I really enjoyed The Tudors—it was incredibly dramatic and full of some intense sexual themes (so not appropriate for NBC LOL)—so a lot of the same cast/crew on this show makes me hopeful. I love supernatural shows, but my only worry is if they will be able to keep the show going for a full season without it getting boring. – Excited.
  • Kyle: I liked The Tudors, and this series finds the same people working with the same actor, so I have some hope. My only fear is how do they keep the story going for a full season? – Curious.
