If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/25/14

It’s getting chilly here again, and as I write this up, I’m watching my recorded Dancing with the Stars and sitting in front of the heater. It’s been a fun week so far around our house. We got kind of an unexpected windfall (not a huge one, but big enough…), so hubs got a new laptop, I got a new tablet, our son is getting a new bed, and we just bought a new microwave since our old one is OLD and is peeling paint inside. It’s…gross. LOL But besides that, we’re gearing up for Thanksgiving and having a good time doing it. We’ll use the great TV tonight to give ourselves a break from cleaning. Here’s what we’re recommending to help you do the same.

ncis1125smallLast week’s NCIS was one of my favorites in a while. A Navy Hospital Corpsman stopped to help the people who’d been in a car accident, and because she wasn’t a doctor, nurse, or licensed EMT, she was arrested. The arresting officer might have been doing his job, but he couldn’t have been more of an ass about it. You really had to feel for her when she was sitting in lockup and talking with Gibbs about how if she’d been Army or whatever, she would have come out of the service with her certification, but because she was Navy, she wasn’t certified, therefore she’d been arrested for saving lives. In the end, Carrie Clark, along with the testimonies of the accident victims and their families, was able to get her a deal in which she served community service, rather than go to jail.

On tonight’s episode, “Grounded,” while stuck at the Dulles airport due to inclement weather, Tony, Bishop and her husband, Jake, work an NCIS case involving an elevated terrorist threat at Northeast airports during the Thanksgiving travel surge. Jamie Bamber guest stars as Bishop’s husband, Jake.

See if Tony, Bishop, & Jake can stop the terrorist threat tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Dancing with the Stars, MasterChef: Junior, 19 Kids & Counting, MasterChef Canada, NCIS: NOLA, Chicago Fire, Chopped, Chrisley Knows Best, Person of Interest, Restaurant Redemption, & Benched.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/18/14

It started snowing here on Sunday, and it honestly has been snowing on and off since, but thankfully it’s mild out. The kids have been having fun with all the snow because it’s perfect for packing and making a snowman. It’s kind of bittersweet because Chloe, who is 9 now, has started to argue about wearing snow pants and how “uncool” they are. *sigh* My baby girl is growing up. That said, she has to wear them! While I hang the wet outdoor clothes up to dry and tuck my little snow bunnies into bed let’s see what we’re recommending tonight.

themindyproject1118smallThe Mindy Project is still making me laugh week after week, and in a world of stress and craziness, that’s exactly what we all need. Last week, we watched as Danny freaked out over Mindy downloading movies illegally on his computer, because he said it’s stealing. This is part of the reason I love this show, because they allow these two to have small little disagreements that normal couples do, which makes them anything but boring. We also met Danny’s mom, Annette, who Mindy took out for shopping trip like most girlfriends do with the possible future mother-in-law. It was on that shopping trip that Mindy was faced with a moral dilemma when she saw Annette shoplifting, then later giving the stolen bomber jacket to Danny. Mindy confronted Annette, but she got upset, and so did Danny…until the ink exploded in his jacket, making him realize that Mindy was being honest. He tried to make her return the jacket to the store but then realized that she could face jail time, so they all ran—hilarious. Seriously, though, kids… Don’t steal! Overall, it was an amusing episode all around, and I am still loving every minute.

On tonight’s episode, “Diary of a Mad Indian Woman,” Mindy is forced to act as a mentor to the residents at the hospital, and Danny gets himself into trouble when he finds, and can’t help but read, Mindy’s diary.

To see how much trouble Danny is in, tune in to FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching NCIS, NCIS: NOLA, Forever, The Voice, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., New Girl, Person of Interest, Chopped, and MasterChef: Junior.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/4/14

It’s the last night of my son’s trip to Disney World with my mom, brother, & his family. I know he’s had a great time, and I’ve enjoyed the peace & quiet…but I think we’ll all be happy he’s home. But it does mean I’m going to take the evening and catch up on as much TV as possible! On that end, here’s what we’re recommending tonight.

masterchefjuniorsmallI’m so happy because tonight is the season premiere of MasterChef: Junior. This was a huge hit with me last season. The kids they bring on are amazingly talented…as talented as any of the adults they have on the regular show. These boys and girls—who range from 8 to 14, I think—are really fun to watch because they seem just as confident as the adults yet get so much enjoyment out of it. And the judges are even more fun to watch because they truly just get to let their hair down, so to speak. I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and the crop of kids really blew me away. I can’t wait to see more.

On tonight’s episode, “The Next Generation,” America’s first-ever “MasterChef: Junior,” Alexander Weiss, returns to the kitchen as a special guest. Alexander presents the mystery box challenge, and the 16 junior home cooks will be tasked with preparing impressive dishes using the special guest’s favorite ingredients. The winner of the challenge will have a significant advantage and select which of the judges’ favorite proteins the remaining contestants will prepare in the elimination round. Later, the 12 junior home cooks with the best dishes will advance in the competition.

Meet the new chefs tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 19 Kids & Counting, MasterChef Canada, Chopped, Restaurant Redemption, Town of the Living Dead, & Benched.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/7/14

It’s the first week of October, and my daughter has changed her costume idea at least a dozen times, so another dozen changes or so, and we should have a final one—that or she’s going out as a kid who didn’t come with a costume idea. 🙂 While I help my 9-year-old decide between a Minecraft-themed or a video game controller costume, let’s see what we’re recommending you watch on TV tonight.

themindyproject107smallThere is nothing I don’t love about The Mindy Project, and I am really happy with how they’ve managed to keep the show interesting, even with having Danny and Mindy together as a couple. Last week, we watched as Mindy got into trouble with her taxes and found out that Danny was still married. Cliff is the one who dropped the news to Mindy because she went to him to help her with her legal issues for not paying taxes. In the end, Mindy got herself together, Danny got a divorce and bought Mindy a dresser so she could keep her stuff at his place. In other news, Peter is still really upset that Jeremy is hitting on Lauren, and even though they say they aren’t together, Peter did the research and found out that they are and that they want to be together full-time. I was really sad for Peter because he really seems to like Lauren, and it’s not often that the player has his heart broken—maybe it’ll help change his ways for good.

On tonight’s episode, “I Slipped,” Mindy and Danny dive into uncharted waters in their relationship, which leaves Mindy believing she must pull out all the stops to impress her man. Meanwhile, Morgan tries to trick Jeremy and Peter into reconciling their feud.

To see where this episode takes Mindy and Danny, tune in to FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching The Flash, The Voice, NCIS, NCIS: NOLA, New Girl, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Chicago Fire, Forever, and Person of Interest.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/16/14

Can I just say that I LOVE shopping with other people’s money? *laugh* A group I belong to on Facebook has adopted a troop and a platoon of Army soldiers overseas, and I’ve been collecting donations and letters from them to buy things to put in a care package for each group of soldiers. It’s been a lot of fun. 🙂 But moving on to TV, tonight’s another great night, so we have some recommendations for what you should watch. Check them out!

americasgottalent2013smallMy pick tonight is the last performances episode this season of America’s Got Talent. Last week, the group was narrowed down to the final 6, and while it’s not my perfect six, I’m a big fan of several of the remaining acts. My top pick is Mat Franco, the cutey patootie magician. He’s really amazing, and his personality just shines every time he gets on stage (or off stage, as the case may be, since most of—if not all of—his acts take place down at the judges’ table and in the audience. I love watching him every time and could watch him all day. I also love AcroArmy. They’re crazy good at what they do, which is kind of dance combined with gymnastics combined with cheerleading. I love watching them because they have that danger element that doesn’t make me cringe and look away. Sons of Serendip are an amazing musical group, and I’m glad they made it through. I’m not a huge fan of Miguel Dakota, Quintavious Johnson, and Emily West, the remaining three acts, all of whom are singers. They’re all good, yeah, but…something about all of them puts me off. I’d much rather have had the other magic acts & musicians Emil & Dariel. So my fingers are crossed for Mat, and if not him, then AcroArmy or Sons of Serendip!

On tonight’s episode, “Finale Performance,” the Final 6 acts compete one last time live at the legendary Radio City Music Hall for the chance to win one million dollars and be named the most talented act in America.

Check out the last performances of the season on tonight’s two-hour new episode on NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Dancing with the Stars, 19 Kids & Counting, The Jennie Garth Project, Married at First Sight, MasterChef Canada, & Chopped.
