If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/17/14

I’m so happy the new fall season is here! Yes, it’s just a few shows this week, but…the rest are coming up fast. I’ve been watching screeners for a few days, and I’m excited for some of what I’ve seen and disappointed in others. But overall, I’m excited for new and returning shows. A couple of those new shows premiere tonight, so check out our recommendations!

Jenny’s Choice

mysteriesoflaura917smallOne of tonight’s two new series is The Mysteries of Laura, on NBC. The title does the show no justice, in my opinion. It stars Debra Messing (Will & Grace, Smash) as Laura Diamond, a brilliant NYPD homicide detective with twin boys and a soon-to-be ex-husband (played by Josh Lucas, The Firm) who seems to be putting off signing the divorce papers. She’s a tough cop at work and a tired mother of her…exuberant children at home. But her personal life bleeds into her professional life quite a bit—both when she has to take time off to pick up the boys from school and when her husband, who is also a cop, becomes her boss. Laz Alonso (Breakout Kings, Deception) stars as Billy Soto, Laura’s partner on the force.

I’ve seen the premiere, and I loved it a lot more than I thought I would. Like I said, the title really does it no justice. It’s very funny and enjoyable, so I urge you to give it a chance!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Homicide Detective Laura Diamond balances her day job with her chaotic family life. Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars, Person of Interest, Flashpoint) guest stars.

See if your life could possibly be any crazier than Laura’s tonight on NBC at 10/9c. (It will normally air at 9/8c.)

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Hell’s Kitchen, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Mystery Diners, Top Chef Duels, & Wahlburgers.
