If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/16/12

Tonight is a very slow night for new TV, and because of that, JJ and Megan are taking the night off. But Kyle & I are here to tell you what we think you should be watching, so read on! 🙂

thenextironchefsmallThere are several things on tonight for me, a couple of which are actually surprising even to me. (I quit watching Royal Pains very early this season, but I want to watch Evan & Paige get married… And I didn’t watch Ashley’s season of The Bachelorette, but I’m a sucker for this type of thing, so I’ll be watching her wedding to J.P. 🙂 ) But the show I’ll enjoy most tonight is the new episode of The Next Iron Chef. Last week was all about fusion—awkward and just plain wrong food pairings, like chicken liver & peppermints, bone marrow & Skittles, calamari & mini marshmallows, and more. Surprisingly, the judges liked most of the dishes. In the end, it was Chefs Appleman & Mehta that got sent (erroneously, in my opinion) to the Secret Ingredient Showdown. Neither chef excelled in the challenge, but Chef Appleman won by virtue of his whole shrimp head he included in his dish, sending Chef Jehangir Mehta home. I honestly don’t know who I’m rooting for anymore. Some of my favorites coming into the competition have shown incredible attitude, so Chef Amanda Freitag might be my frontrunner now.

On tonight’s episode, “Transcendence,” the four remaining competitors encounter famed magician David Copperfield, who magically reveals an ingredient to be utilized by the chefs in a challenge that involves constructing a delicious Las Vegas-style buffet meal.

Don’t miss the competition tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Next Iron Chef @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Sugar Dome, The Bachelorette: Ashley & J.P.’s Wedding, & Royal Pains.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/25/12

Welcome back to the Remote posts! I hope everyone had a good holiday (or just a good week if you aren’t American. 😉 ). We had a great one, but I’m thankful for all the new TV this week. Megan is skipping today because she’s in the middle of moving, and JJ is under the weather, so hopefully they’ll both be back tomorrow! Now, check out what Kyle & I think you should be watching. 🙂

This season of The Next Iron Chef has been fun so far, and I can’t say I’ve been *too* disappointed with the way it’s going so far. I’m not a fan of Elizabeth Falkner still. Much like Geoffrey Zacharian, I think she’s pompous and arrogant and believes she can do no wrong. Maybe I’m wrong. But that’s how I see her. So I wouldn’t be disappointed if she got sent home soon. Other than that, I’m happy so far.

On tonight’s episode, “Transformation,” the seven remaining chefs have reached the halfway point in this competition and now they must not only battle for their own redemption, but they must prove they can redeem and transform ingredients that some would think are unworthy for Kitchen Stadium, into Iron Chef-worthy fare.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Amazing Race, Sugar Dome, Chopped, Breaking Magic, & The Mentalist.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/11/12

Ahh, the start of a new week. We’re *thisclose* to the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. Do you have your plans ironed out yet? We decided to invite my mom up to Kansas, so I started planning out the meal today. We’re doing a fresh turkey from the butcher this year for the first time instead of a frozen one from the grocery store. Exciting stuff! To help ease the holiday planning stress, there’s lots of great TV on, so check out what we are recommending tonight.

I loved last week’s premiere of The Next Iron Chef. I was unhappy to see Spike Mendelsohn in the bottom two, but I was very glad to see him advance against Tim Love…who I found to be kind of an ass at times. He was my least favorite competitor, so having him gone isn’t a hardship for me. The best part about the episode was seeing the reactions of the chefs when they were told what they would be cooking at the beginning. Poor Eric Greenspan got grasshoppers again, but this time, instead of them sending him home, they sent him straight to the top. That was fun. 🙂 I’m looking forward to seeing what the chefs have to go through on tonight’s episode!

On tonight’s episode, “Innovation,” the chefs create an innovative take on international classics.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Firefly 10th Anniversary: Browncoats Unite, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Cupcake Wars, The Amazing Race, Iron Chef America, Breaking Magic, & The Mentalist.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/4/12

We’re halfway through the weekend and to the first day of the new week of TV. It’s a big week for the US, as we head to polls on Tuesday, so take some time to relax each night with our recommendations on what to watch, starting with tonight. 🙂

I am SO excited about tonight’s season premiere of The Next Iron Chef. I would be excited even if this were a normal competition, but I’m even more excited because this is the season of redemption. All ten chefs have competed before and are back for a second chance at being the winner. Nine chefs were picked, while a tenth was chosen from a Road to Redemption webcast. I was rooting for Madison Cowan, who I quite enjoy seeing competing, but Duskie Estes won the right to compete in the new season. Along with her, the chefs this season include Nate Appleman, Elizabeth Falkner (who I thought got ripped off last season when Geoffrey Zakarian—who I don’t particularly like at all—beat her out at the end), Amanda Freitag, Eric Greenspan, Alex Guarnaschelli, Tim Love, Jehangir Mehta, Spike Mendelsohn, & Marcel Vigneron. Frankly, Marcel and Spike are hotties, and I’d love either or both of them to stick around for a while, simply for the eye candy if nothing else. (Although, I know Spike is a great chef, and I like watching him cook, so that’s a bonus. I don’t know Marcel at all…) But I think my vote has to go to Nate Appleman, who I would love to watch as an Iron Chef, or a few others. Regardless, I think it’ll be an excellent season.

On tonight’s episode, “Resourcefulness,” the 10 competing chefs arriving on a beach, where they are told they’ll be cooking with an ingredient that burned them in the past.

See who deserves to be back and who goes home first tonight on the 90-minute season premiere on Food Network 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Halloween Wars @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Funniest Home Videos, Cupcake Wars, The Amazing Race, & The Mentalist.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/11/11

We are 15 days away from Christmas Day, which is not good, because I have so much left to do. We are also only 10 days away from the start of Hanukkah, and and 16 away from Kwanza. But whatever holiday you celebrate, the one thing that remains is how this time of year represents a slow in the television world. I am not looking forward to a few weeks of barely any new shows. Luckily, this week still has a few must see shows to keep our attention. So pull up a piece of couch and check out what you should be watching tonight.

Megan’s Choice

It’s here! Tonight is the season finale of The Amazing Race. After last week’s sad elimination of my favorite team of Tommy & Andy, we are left with Ernie & Cindy, Jeremy & Sandy, and Amani & Marcus. Out of the teams left, I’m leaning toward Amani & Marcus, but I’d be happy with anyone but Jeremy & Sandy. They annoy me too much. Whatever the outcome, it’s been an interesting race, and as always, I’ve enjoyed it.

On tonight’s episode, “Go Out and Get It Done,” after racing through 4 continents, 20 cities, and nearly 40,000 miles, the final three teams race to Atlanta, GA, where a smooth landing evades one team as their competition soars. In the end, the winning team is crowned and awarded the $1 million dollar prize.

To see who wins the race, tune in to CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Amazing Race @ Clicker.
