TV News – 10/5/11

Some tidbits of news to help you through your day!

NBC cut some dead weight yesterday, when they canceled The Playboy Club. I can’t say that I’m surprised, because while it’s very true that Eddie Cibrian is amazingly hot, this pilot was not. The stories dragged, the dialogue was poor, and overall, it just sucked.

While chopping some bunnies, NBC also ordered full seasons of Up All Night and Whitney. I’m actually surprised by Whitney being picked up. It’s not funny at all. I guess we’ll have to see how it does in the long run. Source

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/3/11

I’m so excited it’s Monday. There is SO much fantastic TV on tonight, from the 2-hour season finale of Warehouse 13 to new episodes of some new fan favorites like Terra Nova & Hart of Dixie and some old, like Castle and Hawaii Five-0. So what do we think you should watch? Check it out below and find out!

I am both excited and sad about tonight’s Warehouse 13. I’m excited, because it’s going to be a great 2 hours, but I’m sad, because it’s the last 2 hours of the show for a while. Stupid season finales! lol This season has been leading up to what should be a fantastic episode. In fact, in the interview with star Eddie McClintock, he said one of the sound guys told him they were the best episodes of the series. Eddie also said they had really raised the stakes this year for the final 2 episodes, so I’m beyond excited to see them!

On tonight’s finale, “Emily Lake/Stand,” Pete and Myka attempt to follow the trail of a top-secret file that was stolen from the Warehouse, and their investigation leads them to a high school in Wyoming where H.G. Wells is working as a teacher named Emily Lake. They must race to stop Sykes from using his own cache of artifacts to destroy them and the Warehouse.

See the 2-hour finale tonight on Syfy at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Warehouse 13 @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/26/11

Take a deep breath in and out. Again. Don’t panic. Yes, there are a lot of shows on, but you can handle it. Your DVR may implode, but you’ll be fine. *laugh* It’s seriously crazy, I know! But I am so damn glad we’ve got all this great TV on! What new shows have you watched? Which have you enjoyed so far? One new series I really enjoyed was Poppy Montgomery’s Unforgettable. But there are a lot I really liked and can’t wait to see more of, so… Let’s see what’s on this week to make us happy, huh? – Jenny

Team Choice

There is one show that Megan, Kyle, and I all wanted to recommend, and rather than splitting it up into 3 separate choices, we decided to combine it. FOX’s Terra Nova looks like it’ll be one of the most exciting shows on network television in a while. From FOX: “Terra Nova follows an ordinary family on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a daring experiment to save the human race. In the year 2149, the world is dying. The planet is overdeveloped and overcrowded, with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. The future of mankind is in jeopardy, and its only hope for survival is in the distant past. The series centers on the Shannon family as they join the Tenth Pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first colony established in this beautiful yet foreboding land. The show stars Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars), Stephen Lang (Avatar), and Christine Adams (TRON: Legacy), along with Shelley Conn (Mistresses), Landon Liboiron (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Allison Miller (Kings), Naomi Scott (Life Bites), Alana Mansour. Read on to find out why we think you should watch.

Jenny: Dinosaurs! Beautiful scenery! Interesting storylines! Seriously, the show seems to have it all. I love a show that can combine elements of every genre, from science fiction/fantasy, to drama, to comedy. The show was shot in Australia, so you know before you even see it that the setting is going to be gorgeous. The promos have been interesting, letting us know that this new world is not the Utopia you would think. Be sure and check out our Jason O’Mara interview for more!

Megan: I just had to suggest Terra Nova, even though Kyle and Jenny are both also suggesting it. You can’t have too much of a good thing, and Terra Nova is a really good thing. I loved the pilot. It was seriously epic. The show isn’t just about dinosaurs, or adventure; it’s about family and struggles. There’s nothing more heartbreaking than being a parent, and watching the sacrifices these parents have to make for their children to survive is moving. That said, it’s not all drama. There’s a touch of humour and lots of adventure. You’d be a fool to miss out on this new, and sure to be hit drama.

Kyle: Tonight’s Terra Nova premiere is feature film quality, giving us some excellent Jurassic Park style Dino action and an interesting premise. I could also see some influences from some of my favorite TV shows, such as Stargate and the third season of Lost. The premiere also sets up some great story arcs and mysteries that I can’t wait to see explored.

Do not miss the 2-hour series premiere tonight on FOX at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Terra Nova @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/19/11

Are you ready for what I think is probably the biggest night for TV this year? Seriously, tonight’s schedule is absolutely insane. One series finale, four season finales—one of which has three episodes total tonight, two series premieres, six season premieres—one of which has two episodes total tonight, twenty-six other new episodes, and four specials or sports games… It’s enough to drive any dedicated TV fan crazy! We tried (we really tried!) to pare it down for you, but even so, almost all of us have more than one pick for tonight. Sorry. 😉 (Ok, not really. *snort*) What do we think you MUST watch tonight? Read on and find out.

Jenny’s Choice #1

I debated for a long time about what to recommend for tonight. But the episode that I kept coming back to, the one I knew I had to put first, is the season premiere of Castle. Last season was absolutely explosive—from the episodes with the bomb and the freezer, visiting California, the murder case of Beckett’s mom and everything that entailed… Some of my most favorite Castle moments ever happened in the last two episodes last season. I will never forget Castle carrying Beckett out of the airplane hanger right before the hitman got there to kill Captain Montgomery. The way he held her as she screamed and cried, flailing against him to try and make him let her go. It was absolutely heartbreaking. Then… THEN! At Montgomery’s funeral, Castle saw the glint off the sniper’s gun and tried to save Beckett, but he was too late. She got shot right in front of him and lay dying as he professed his love. Pure thrilling drama at its best. That’s why tonight’s premiere is my top pick. Eek!

On tonight’s premiere, “Rise,” plagued by guilt over his role in the situation, Castle struggles to determine who is behind the brutal shooting of Detective Beckett. Ryan and Esposito attempt to adjust to Victoria “Iron” Gates, the precinct’s new uncompromising Captain.
