If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/14/13

While it’s nice to have an extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day, it just seems like the days are shorter—this whole week has been flying by. As a result, I’m still falling behind on TV, and I’ve reached the stage where even several brand new shows have already amassed 2 or 3 unwatched episodes on my TiVo—it looks like this weekend I will need to make some swift evictions from my DVR. So to help you decide which shows should stay on your season pass list, we’ve got some suggestions.

1600penn314smallOne underrated entry in NBC’s Thursday comedy lineup that I really enjoy is 1600 Penn. Last week, Skip discovered that a special letter he received from his father while away at summer camp had actually been written by his aide, Marshall. So Skip used his podcast to confront the President. Meanwhile, Emily and Becca butted heads over what classes Marigold should be taking.

I find 1600 Penn, and Josh Gad in particular, to be extremely hilarious. The show is a great blend of slapstick and classic sitcom situational humor. Plus, no matter how crazy everything gets, they always manage to mix a little heart into every episode. I have really been enjoying the whole Becca and D.B. relationship—how it started off due to circumstances but has been growing into something real—so I’m glad to see he’s back in tonight’s episode.

On tonight’s episode, “Game Theory,” Emily helps Skip prepare for a big date; Becca and D.B. paint a mural for a special room; and Dale and Xander face off in a game of Risk.

See how Skip’s date goes tonight on NBC at 9:30/8:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of 1600 Penn @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Glee, Archer, Legit, and Nathan for You.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/17/13

I’m in sunny Florida on a family vacation, but I’m already wondering how I’m going to catch up on all of this week’s new TV! Tonight, there are a lot of shows returning, including the rescheduled double-episode Haven season finale and a couple fun new cable shows I’m interested in checking out. I might need to stage a Hunger Games-type battle for the TV remote! Here’s what we suggest you check out tonight…

Tonight, I spy an all-new season of Archer on FX! When we last saw the ISIS gang, they had been sent into outer space on a mission and somehow managed to get their space shuttle back to Earth after the rest of the crew died. Archer made it through without a scratch, while the rest of the gang was nursing bumps and bruises, and Ray found himself once again wheelchair-bound.

What I love about this show is that it’s not afraid to be totally politically incorrect and crass, and it holds nothing back. Archer is most certainly an adult cartoon, and I’m often shocked at what they are able to get on the air! I really enjoy how the series explores both sides of the spy world. It is able to garner such hilarious moments from both the actual spy missions as well as the behind-the-scenes office politics. The voice cast is extremely talented, and I can’t wait to see what the ISIS gang gets up to this season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Fugue and Riffs,” Archer visits a spa for a weekend in an attempt to rid himself of amnesia.

See the funny tonight on FX at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Archer @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/recording Last Resort, Grey’s Anatomy, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Office, 1600 Penn, Legit, Sweet Genius, King of the Nerds, Suits, and Haven.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/8/12

Two good things about the election being over: no more of those awful political ads, and loads of new TV episodes! Thursdays appear to be back to their old DVR-overwhelming ways, so we’ve got some suggestions to help you decide what to watch tonight.

Last Resort is getting really good! Last week was easily my favorite episode of the series so far. Secretary of Defense Curry arrived on the island, along with Grace’s father, to negotiate with Chaplin and Kendal. Meanwhile, part of the sonar ray line surrounding the island was down, leaving the sub vulnerable. So Grace took command of the Colorado and a small team to go and replace the dead battery. While underwater, the government took advantage of the compromised defense to try to find and attack the Colorado, but Grace proved to be an effective leader and managed to out maneuver the would-be attackers. Also, back in the US, we learned that Christine knows she is being played to try to turn on her husband and is using this to her advantage.

While I found Prosser’s line of “Ten Hut, Officer On Deck!” so cheesy, it was great to see this character finally have some respect for Grace! Last Resort just keeps getting better each week as the drama, intrigue, and action keep getting amped up! I hope folks will tune in and give the show a chance!

On tonight’s episode, “Another Fine Navy Day,” mysterious assailants attack the crew, putting Chaplin and Kendal on the defensive.

See who the attackers are tonight on ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Last Resort @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Glee, The League, Sweet Genius, Childrens Hospital, and NTSF:SD:SUV::.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/25/12

I am in disbelief that October is almost over. Where did the month go? Despite the fact that the time seems to be slipping away, I am welcoming the cooler temperatures and, even more so, all the new television! Let’s take a look at what we’re recommending (aka ordering 😉 ), you to watch tonight.

Megan’s Choice

The Big Bang Theory is one of those comedies that never fails to deliver me side-splitting laughs—I admit to tears often streaming down my face. Last week’s episode was particularly funny, especially when Howard found his dentist sneaking out of his mom’s house. Another great moment was the discussion between Raj, Stuart, and Howard—awkward for Raj to introduce his new roommate to Howard. The jealousy tension was really well-played. I’m looking forward to seeing more moments with Howard and Bernadette, as well as hoping they play more on the Raj/Stuart friendship.

On tonight’s episode, “The Holographic Excitation,” the gang heads to Stuart’s comic book store to celebrate Halloween; Leonard uses science to seduce Penny.

To see if science can be the new panty remover, tune into CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Big Bang Theory @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Grey’s Anatomy, Elementary, Last Resort, Person of Interest, Scandal, The Vampire Diaries, Beauty and the Beast, and Sweet Genius.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/11/12

So the question has been answered, and badda boom, the jury is OUT—the first canceled show of the season is Made in Jersey, which is being replaced with Undercover Boss. As for tonight’s TV, I’m glad there’s the VP Debate cutting down the number of new shows because I already have a backlog from earlier in the week. That said, there’s still plenty of new stuff on tonight for those who are all caught up, so check out our recommendations.

I’m excited for the return of The League tonight. I’m not a sports fan, but I find this show about a group of friends stressing and fighting over their fantasy football league hilarious. The cast is so much fun, and they all have great chemistry, which makes their use of improvisation seem so natural. Paul Scheer and Nick Kroll are always amazing and will do anything and everything for a laugh. When we left the gang last season, Jenny had just found out she was pregnant, Pete had accidentally branded the words “Sacko” on his lower back, and Ruxin had set the Shiva and Sacko trophies on fire and set them out to sea, declaring the season null and void. I’m looking forward to another season of crazy antics, insults, and politically-incorrect humor, and I hope we also get some more of those totally inappropriate Taco songs!

On tonight’s episode, “Training Camp,” preparations are made for the arrival of Kevin and Jenny’s baby. Meanwhile, Taco scores an invite to the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp.

See what hijinks the gang gets up to tonight on FX at 10:30/9:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of The League @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Last Resort, 30 Rock, Up All Night, The X Factor, and The Greatest Event in Television History.
