If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/18/13

It’s mid-week, and we’ve started the new fall season, which is fantastic. It’s been great so far, and there’s more to come. There’s only one season premiere on tonight, but we’re here to give you our recommendations—and I have to be amused, because for all our protests, all three of us tonight picked a reality show. *snicker* 😉

Jenny’s Choice

americasgottalent2013smallIt’s been a really great season of America’s Got Talent. I’ve been sad about some of the acts that have gone home, but the six acts are all great. There’s singers Cami Bradley, Forte (my favorite singing act), & Jimmy Rose, magician Collins Key, performer/dancer Kenichi Ebina, and comedian Taylor Williamson. I’m rooting for Forte, Collins Key, Kenichi, or Taylor. If one of those four wins, I’ll be happy.

On tonight’s 2-hour episode, “Results Finale,” after a thrilling summer, season eight concludes as a winner is named and awarded the $1 million grand prize. Special musical guests round out the program before host Nick Cannon reveals which act has been voted as America’s most talented. Featuring special performances from Josh Groban, Luke Bryan, Icona Pop and Il Divo with Heather Headley.

Find out which act takes home the prize tonight on NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Survivor, Mystery Diners, Thieves, Inc., Top Chef Masters, & Modern Dads.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/11/13

First, I want to say that we all need to take a moment out of our day and just think about the events twelve years ago, when so many people lost their lives in NY, Washington, & Pennsylvania. It’s been a long twelve years for the U.S. (and the world in general), so let’s be thankful for what we have and remember those that aren’t so fortunate.

Now, I’m SO excited about last night’s So You Think You Can Dance results. I would’ve been okay with any of the four winning, but the two I’d picked from almost the beginning pulled it out in the end and took home the crowns. Since I’m still riding that high, let’s check in to see what we recommend tonight! 🙂

topchefmasters911smallI don’t enjoy Top Chef Masters as much as the original Top Chef (the egos are so much bigger on some of them, I swear!), but I’m also not enjoying this season as much as I did the previous one I watched. It feels almost disjointed because of the sous chef stuff. That being said, I still love watching it. I’m a cooking show junkie, what can I say? 😉 I think my favorite chef has to be Bryan Voltaggio. He’s adorable (reminding me a little bit of Jason Dohring (Logan on Veronica Mars) in looks. I did like Sang Yoon, but he’s become even more of a control freak and kind of a jerk than he was, and I find myself looking for the greatness that is supposed to be David Burke. I have no doubt that both are amazing chefs, but for some reason, I don’t think this show has brought out the best in either of them—and last week, I thought Sang should’ve gone home instead of Neal. I also like Douglas, although not as much as Bryan.

On tonight’s episode, “Lucha Vavoom,” the winner of this week’s Battle of the Sous Chefs challenge, along with their “Top Chef Master,” get to create today’s Quickfire. Then, the chefs face a culinary body slam, as they create dishes with a Mexican flair for the wrestlers of Lucha Vavoom. Que sabroso!

Find out which chefs come out on top and which one goes home tonight on Bravo at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, MasterChef, Modern Dads, & Thieves, Inc..

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/5/12

It’s Hump Day, which is a good thing for a lot of reasons! LOL Mainly for me, though, because it means we’re to the mid-point of the week, which means only two more work days after this one, and then we’re too the weekend again. Last weekend went by way too quickly, so I’m hoping for a bit of a slower time in a few days. But also, it means there’s some great stuff on tonight, including what we think you should be watching, so read on to see what we recommend.

I’ve been looking forward to today for a couple of weeks now. My pick tonight is The Neighbors. It’s their Christmas episode, and you know that is going to have to be brilliant! The last new episode was their Thanksgiving one, which I also loved, so I don’t expect the Christmas one to be any different. The scene I am giggling about most on the preview I’ve seen is Larry Bird opening the Etch-a-Sketch and being thrilled about getting most advanced version of like an iPad thing. Hy-Sterical. That is all.

I recently spoke to Tim Jo, who plays oldest alien son, Reggie Jackson. Such a sweet, funny guy! Totally made me love him and his character more than I already did. You can check that out here: Tim Jo Interview.

On tonight’s episode, “Merry Crap-Mas,” the Weavers ask the Bird-Kersees to hide the multitude of Christmas gifts they’ve purchased for Amber, Max, and Abby. But when Marty and Debbie are put off by their kids’ entitled attitude toward the holiday, they decide to return all the gifts and put the money toward a family vacation, where they can focus on the true meaning of the holiday. There’s just one problem: Larry Bird has opened one of their gifts, spawning a frenzy of gift opening among the aliens and leaving the Weavers with no gifts and no way to pay for the trip. Can alien “Scrooge” Larry Bird save Christmas for the Weavers?

Don’t miss all the fun moments tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Criminal Minds @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Arrow, Criminal Minds, Guys with Kids, Restaurant: Impossible, Law & Order: SVU, Restaurant Stakeout, Top Chef, Chicago Fire, Hot in Cleveland, Happily Divorced, & Cajun Pawn Stars.

The X Factor — Top 12

Last night, the top 12 performers took the stage on The X Factor, with the theme of Divas. I have been enjoying the show far this season, but some singers have won my favor over others.

Speaking of people who I don’t like… Khloe Kardashian is basically on the stage because she’s cute and is a Kardashian—not because she has an ounce of talent. She is a terrible host, and I know second graders that could read from a teleprompter with more fluency than she does. Thank God Mario Lopez is there to help so we actually know what’s going on.

Rambling about hosts over for now, so let’s take a look at last night’s performances and my thoughts on them after the jump. Continue reading

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/7/12

Well, Americans voted, and Barack Obama will remain president for another four years. Whether you voted Obama or Romney, at least we’re lucky to live in a country where we have the power to make our own choices, right? On to some other news, you can make your choice again by picking what you want to watch on TV, and we’re here to help you with our recommendations for the night. 🙂

Last week’s The Neighbors was fantastically funny and so sweet it made me “aww” several times. Debbie became crazed while trying to plan Abby’s birthday, and that led to unhappiness for everyone. After explaining to their alien neighbors what a birthday & birthday party was, when she finally explained to Jackie why she was behaving that way (after everything started falling apart), Jackie took it upon herself to get her alien friends to help sort it all out so Debbie could relax and enjoy the day. In the end, it was successful, even if it wasn’t perfectly the way Debbie had first envisioned. Also, Jackie convinced her husband Larry to learn more about the humans by going to work with Marty. Marty showed up in a hard hat, short-sleeved dress shirt, tie, dress pants, construction/hiking boots, a lunch pail, and a shovel, which was hysterically funny. In the end, though, one of my “aww” moments was Larry finishing Marty’s accounting work so Marty could go home to help Debbie and enjoy their daughter’s birthday party. The other “aww” moment for me was when Reggie tried to give Amber a birthday present, even though it wasn’t her birthday. His first gift (a tile with all the events of the universe or whatever since the day of her birth drawn on it) was amazing. But then she argued that basically, she missed her old home and friends, etc. So he surprised her at the end by painting a beautiful mural on her wall of her old street with a card/plaque thing that said something about her old street from her new friend, happy non-birthday. It was adorable.

I love this show because it’s so wacky and so crazy, but so much fun and can be so sweet like last week. It’s one of my favorite new comedies in a while.

On tonight’s episode, “50 Shades of Green,” Marty and Debbie find out all the facts of alien love when Zabvronian mating season coincides with their wedding anniversary. Debbie longs for a little more romance in her marriage after she learns about the more cerebral Zabvronian way, while Jackie Joyner-Kersee is fascinated by humans’ more physical approach. Meanwhile, a handsome jock invites Amber to a make-out party and she decides to go, with Reggie Jackson tagging along. (Gotta love the play on the title, huh?)

See all the fun comparisons of alien and human sex tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Neighbors @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Criminal Minds, Modern Family, CSI, Chicago Fire, Cajun Pawn Stars, Arrow, and Top Chef.
