If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/28/13

I’m so glad it’s Wednesday, because that means we’re halfway through the week and one more day until my husband’s vacation. That, and there’s some great stuff on tonight, so check out our recommendations! 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

topshotsmallThis has been the best season of Top Shot, by far. I love that it’s the All-Stars, all returning players that didn’t quite reach the top spot in their previous seasons, competing for another chance at being the “Top Shot.” Throughout the season, they’ve been competitive, but they have shown good sportsmanship the entire season, too. The way the show changed it up this season, by basing the elimination challenge solely on how well they shot. There’s no voting. There’s no favoritism. I can’t get over how much of a difference that’s made in my enjoyment of the show. I liked it before, but this season, I’ve completely loved it—even when my favorite, Kelly, went home. 😉 Last week was great. The guys had to shoot exploding targets from the back of a moving Army half-track. Then in the elimination challenge, it was a game of horse, where they chose their weapon, their target, their distance, and their shooting stance. It was a lot of fun, but William ended up going home when Brian—who showed a tremendous sportsmanship and made it a good, fair shot, rather than choosing something he was almost guaranteed to win—out-shot him in a tie-breaking round.

Tonight is the season finale, and I’m rooting for Gary to win. He’s just such a sweet, nice guy, and he’s adorable. But honestly, whoever wins deserves it, and I won’t be upset, because they’ve all had a great season. I will have my fingers crossed that we get another season, and while it won’t be another season of All-Stars, I hope that they’ll continue with the way they did it this season and not have the contestants vote for the people going into the elimination challenges.

On tonight’s episode, “Last Man Standing,” the final four must crawl through a tunnel, dodge barbed wire, and slither through mud with an AK-47. With the title of “Top Shot All-Stars” at stake, various weapons from the season test the speed and precision of the last two competitors in this fast-paced showdown.

Find out who outshoots and outscores the rest to win the title tonight on the History Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MasterChef, Melissa & Joey, America’s Got Talent, Broadchurch, Hot in Cleveland, Top Chef Masters, The Exes, Modern Dads, & The Soul Man.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/14/13

It’s mid-week, and I’m so happy because we’re one day closer to my anniversary and one day from payday. *laugh* But I’m also happy because there’s lots of good stuff on tonight. I’m still wallowing about how old my kiddo’s gotten (He started tenth grade yesterday. TENTH GRADE! It’s impossible!!), so the new TV is perfect to help keep me distracted. 😉

Jenny’s Choice

topshotsmallI recommended this a couple of times early this season, but I have to say once again that this is, by far, the best season of Top Shot. It isn’t just the All-Stars, although I do love seeing some of my favorites back (boo that Kelly’s gone! lol). But the way they’ve changed the show up this season has made ALL the difference. It no longer is a popularity contest, where people are voted into the elimination challenge because they aren’t a marine or they’re too young or just not as social. Now, it’s all about how well they shoot. I was okay that Kelly went home when he did because, instead of being out because he’d been sent to the elimination challenge yet again by the others, he went because he just simply didn’t shoot as well as the others. It’s been a really great season, and tonight’s episode will be one of the best of the season. There are some really fun challenges tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “Zip or Ship,” in the most daunting challenge to date, marksmen are strapped to a mechanical arm and sent soaring with the SP89. While rotating in a large circle they must shoot out a series of targets or face elimination. Two competitors zoom down a zip line course, putting their recoil management and rapid transitioning skills to the test.

Find out who goes home tonight on History Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Melissa & Joey, America’s Got Talent, MasterChef, Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy, Broadchurch, Hot in Cleveland, The Exes, Top Chef Masters, & The Soul Man.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/29/13

It’s been a hectic few weeks around here, and I’m looking forward to a few nights of peace and quiet. Tonight, I’m going to curl up with a cup of tea and a few hours of good television, so let’s see what you should be watching with me.

Megan’s Choice

americanbakingcompetitionsmallI really enjoy shows that revolve around cooking competitions, such as MasterChef or Iron Chef America. Now there’s a new one to tune in to. The American Baking Competition premieres tonight on CBS.

The 10 bakers were chosen from a nationwide search of amateur bakers at local casting bake-offs. Proving the joy of baking’s broad appeal, the six female and four male home bakers have varied lives and jobs, including a firefighter, photographer, homemaker, attorney, advertiser, home health care provider, college student, retiree, project manager, and a baking enthusiast trying to go pro. Each week, the show will feature these passionate home bakers competing in three unique challenges: “Signature Bake,” “Technical Bake,” and “Showstopper Bake.” The contestant who out-bakes the rest is that week’s “Star Baker,” while the one whose creations fail to impress is eliminated. The final challenge will be between the three remaining contestants, one of whom will go on to be crowned the best amateur baker in America and win the $250,000 grand prize. The winner will also be awarded a publishing contract with Simon & Schuster to publish their own cookbook with Gallery Books. It’s being hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, who is always amusing, so tune in and check it out.

On the premiere episode, “Pies and Tarts,” amateur bakers compete in various challenges.

To drool over all the yummy baked goods while these bakers compete, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/14/12

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m SO running late today, so this is the down and dirty intro. Let’s see what we think you should be watching tonight, yeah?

Jenny’s Choice #1

On the last episode of Raising Hope, Jimmy was distressed to learn that Wyatt was moving overseas and wanted Sabrina to go with him. He did everything he could to convince her to stay, including having Virginia (who was pretending to be a tarot card reader) read their cards and tell them Wyatt needed to go and Sabrina needed to stay. In the end, they decided to both stay, so Jimmy didn’t lose Sabrina when she left, but Wyatt also didn’t go anywhere, so… That leads up tonight’s new episode, which I’ve seen—and loved. The screener cut off just before the end, so I am anxious to see how it plays out! Gah!

On tonight’s episode, “Jimmy’s Fake Girlfriend,” Jimmy’s spirits are low when Sabrina’s relationship with Wyatt becomes serious, so Virginia and Burt convince him to create a make-believe girlfriend to make her jealous. Barney invites Jimmy to his improv class, where he meets Mary-Louise (guest star Ashley Tisdale, High School Musical) who agrees to play along with his plan to win over Sabrina. But when their acting becomes too convincing and Sabrina falls for their fake relationship, all plans might backfire on Jimmy.

Check it out tonight on FOX at 9:30/8:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Raising Hope @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/25/11

Another of my favorite nights of TV is Tuesday. I’m a CBS junkie, so a lot of my Tuesday night is taken up with 3 hours of CBS dramas. There is a lot more on than those shows, though. We are here to tell you what we think you should watch, so read on!

Tonight is the season finale of Top Shot. It has been a great season, and overall, I’ve been thrilled with how the season has gone. In fact, now that Jake is gone, I’ll be ok with whoever wins. I’m rooting for Dustin, because he’s a nice, young, enthusiastic guy—and a Christian Camp Director, to boot!—but whoever wins, I’ll be good. We’ve seen a lot of different weapons and challenges, and I have no doubt tonight will be just as good!

On tonight’s finale, the Final Four marksmen set their sights on the $100,000 prize and the title of Top Shot. In a series of intense challenges, one shooter attempts an unprecedented shot with the AK-47, and contestants are eliminated one by one until there are only two left standing. The final challenge pushes two marksmen to their limits and a new champion is crowned.

See it tonight on History Channel at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Top Shot @ Clicker.
