If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/9/17

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Megan’s Choice #1

MasterChef: Junior is always an exciting process to watch because the kitchen is filled with incredibly talented young people. The only issue I really struggle with is watching the kids when they run into issues or start to fail, because they get teary eyed and stressed out. Last week Cydney got through by the skin of her teeth after her vegan burger fell on the floor, but fortunately for her, two others messed up a little bit more. Eddie and Sam just missed the mark slightly with the vegan burger challenge, and I was definitely sad to see them go.

On tonight’s episode, “Kitchen Emergency,” the Top 16 face off in their first team challenge, during which they cook lunch for first responders. Each team will have to create a dish featuring a delicious filet mignon, and the guests will vote on which is better. The team with the most votes will win the challenge. Then, it’s up to the judges to determine which two cooks from the losing team will head home.

To find out how the young cooks make out with their team challenge, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, NBC launches Powerless, the first sitcom to be set in the DC Comics universe. Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens, High School Musical) is a bright-eyed young woman who is sick of her boring job in the suburbs and decides to move to Charm City to work for Wayne Security as the new Director of Research and Development. Her new boss is Van Wayne (Alan Tudyk, Firefly), the black sheep of his family, who just wants to be noticed by his famous cousin Bruce and to run the family business in Gotham City. Wayne Security creates products to help regular human beings protect themselves from all the crossfire damage caused by battles between super heroes and supervillains. The business has been failing due to a lack of innovation, so Emily was brought in to hopefully inspire and motivate the staff — Chief Design Officer Teddy (Danny Pudi, Community), Lead Software Engineer Wendy (Jennie Pierson, Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23), Head of Engineering/Chief of Childlike Wonder Ron (Ron Funches, Undateable), and Van’s disillusioned assistant Jackie (Christina Kirk, A to Z).

I had been really excited for this series ever since it was first announced last summer. At the time, the series was to be an office comedy about an insurance company that dealt with the damage left behind by superheroes. Shortly after San Diego Comic-Con, the series got a new showrunner and the premise was changed somewhat. I was a little concerned at first, but I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere. The series reminds me a lot of Better Off Ted with the office politics and crazy lab workers. It’s got some great office humor but also has a lot of fun with the tropes you see in superhero shows, movies, and comics. There are already so many superhero shows on TV these days, but this is a fun new take on the genre that’s worth checking out!

While the premise of the series has changed slightly since the original pilot, the cast hasn’t, and you can find my fun video interviews with the cast from Comic-Con at NoReruns.net (http://www.noreruns.net/2016/08/18/powerless-press-room-san-diego-comic-con-2016/).

On tonight’s premiere, “Wayne or Lose,” a woman begins her new job with a company specializing in products that make everyday citizens feel safer around damage caused by super heroes and villains that live among them.

Check out the different take on the comic-book world tonight on NBC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Superior Donuts, Life in Pieces, Training Day, Superstore, The Blacklist, My Kitchen Rules, Riverdale, Top Chef, and Colony.
