vikings218smallTonight, Vikings returns for its fourth season on History Channel. As the third season ended, Ragnar was growing weak, and in his final days he turned to Christianity, deciding he wanted a Christian burial. Count Odo agreed to let this happen as long as the men who brought his body to the church were unarmed. After some very teary good-byes, Ragnar’s boat-shaped coffin was brought into the Paris cathedral. However, Ragnar suddenly emerged from his coffin and held a knife to the Emperor, while the other Vikings armed themselves with swords from the boat. Ragnar killed the bishop, and the emperor fainted in fear. Ragnar freed the princess he had taken captive before making his way across the bridge to the Viking camp. The others were surprised to see that Ragnar was still alive – while his son Bjorn was overjoyed, the others didn’t seem too pleased by the deception. The Vikings decided to leave Paris but planned to return in the spring, and so Rollo was left behind in Frankia until they returned. The emperor came up with a plan to get back at Ragnar – he offered his daughter Gisla’s hand in marriage to Rollo, offering to make him a Duke. Meanwhile, on the boat back to Kattegat, Ragnar told Floki that he knows he was the one who killed the priest Athelstan.

So what adventures does this new season hold? Will the Vikings make their way back to Paris? How will Ragnar react to Rollo’s latest betrayal? And how will Rollo’s new position come into play? Speaking of betrayal, how will Ragnar make Floki pay for his actions against Athelstan? Is Ragnar through with Christianity, or will this continue to be a divisive point between him and the other men?

If you need to catch up on the series, History Channel will be marathoning the second half of season 2 followed by the entire third season today, leading up to tonight’s premiere.

On tonight’s premiere, “A Good Treason,” a dangerously ill Ragnar returns to Kattegat, where his suspected death kicks off a scramble to succeed him. Meanwhile, Lagertha engages in a power struggle with her calculating, former second in command, Kalf; Rollo betrays his heritage and remains in Frankia; and Floki pays the price for his brutality against the Christian priest.

See how the season starts tonight on History Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Life in Pieces, Grey’s Anatomy, You, Me, and the Apocalypse, The Blacklist, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The 100, Top Chef, Recipe for Deception, and Workaholics.

americancrimesmallI really enjoyed ABC’s new series American Crime when I first saw the pilot last summer and have been anxiously waiting for it to air. Rewatching the series premiere last week, I was quickly reminded why. In the opener, divorced couple Russell and Barbara learn that their son has been killed and his wife raped during a robbery at their home. Barbara quickly put herself in the spotlight, contacting a reporter to tell her story. Meanwhile, the police followed a lead that a Hispanic male was seen leaving the scene—and arrested Tony Gutierrez, who couldn’t have been more cooperative and seemingly innocent. Meanwhile, Russ learned that his perfect son was actually a drug dealer, and that was likely what lead to his death.

This series is very thought-provoking and shows how people’s biases and stereotypes can be completely wrong and that drug addicts and dealers come in all shapes and sizes. When young, blonde, white Aubry is battered and beaten, the police immediately ask her if it was her black boyfriend, Carter, who did this to her. Barb has also proven herself to be quite racist and predjudiced, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how she reacts when the truth about her son comes out and what she does when she confronts her son’s killers. I’m also interested to see if Tony will be a victim of circumstances and profiling—he certainly doesn’t seem like he would last a day in prison—or if will he be cleared and set free.

This show has a great cast giving some stellar performances, and I’m looking forward to seeing how all the drama unfolds.

On tonight’s episode, “Episode Two,” Barb and Russ face Carter and Aubry, who are reunited for the first time since being arrested more than a day ago. Meanwhile, a terrified Tony lands in juvenile detention, testing the resolve of his father, Alonzo; investigators find an existing warrant for Hector’s arrest in Mexico; and emerging facts about Matt and Gwen strain the relationship between their parents.

Learn what facts come out about Matt and Gwen tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Odd Couple, Grey’s Anatomy, The Blacklist, The Slap, Archer, Dig, and Wizard Wars.

greysanatomy219smallGrey’s Anatomy has been delivering this season on the emotional story front—I must have used a whole box of kleenex last episode. It was a very hard thing to watch April and Jackson struggle over the fact that their son was going to die; and it was even harder to watch Jackson pray to a God that he doesn’t believe in because he loved April so much. Losing a child is such a terrible thing, but this show has never shied away from difficult and uncomfortable topics. They instead choose to tackle them with grace and emotion. I was a ball of emotion last week, yet the show managed to have a few amusing moments thanks to Meredith trying to find a sitter for her kids for the weekend. Maggie came through for Meredith in the end, and I’m glad because I really want them to keep building this sister relationship. I’m interested to see where they’re going to go with all these characters now, especially Jackson and April.

On tonight’s episode, “The Great Pretender,” Maggie gets upset when Meredith dodges her questions about DC; Bailey and Ben become concerned about Ben’s brother after he is admitted to the hospital, and Dr. Herman starts to warm up to Arizona. Meanwhile, Richard feels manipulated by Catherine.

To see what is causing Meredith to be so tight-lipped about her trip, tune in to ABC at 8/7c.
