Tonight is the series premiere of Christina Milian Turned Up on E! at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c. As part of this loud, loving, opinionated and multi-talented Cuban-American family, Christina Milian has always been the focus, often to the consternation of her two sisters, Danielle and Lizzy. Now, Christina is learning how to share the spotlight. The show follows Christina as she reinvigorates her music career with a new label, a new sound and a new look, all while raising her young daughter Violet with help from mom Carmen and sisters Danielle and Lizzy. This season is all about family when middle-sister Danielle tries to balance a new marriage and motherhood; baby sister Lizzy begins a new chapter as a trained culinary chef and converts to Orthodox Judaism, and Carmen attempts to find a happy medium managing Christina’s professional life while keeping a very close watch over her entire family.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Grantchester on PBS at 10/9c. Already a hit in the UK, Grantchester stars James Norton (Happy Valley) as a charismatic young clergyman and Robson Green (Wire in the Blood) as a down-to-earth cop who team up to fight crime in the beautiful hamlet of Grantchester in 1953. Based on the acclaimed mystery novels by James Runcie, the young vicar is styled after Runcie’s late father, who was Archbishop of Canterbury in the 1980s.

Tonight is the series premiere of Backstrom on FOX at 9/8c. This is a subversive and comic crime procedural about an unhealthy, offensive, irascible – albeit brilliant – detective who is brought back from exile to run the Portland Police Bureau’s Special Crimes Unit (S.C.U.). Detective Lieutenant Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson, The Office) is a man with no filter. After a five-year exile to the traffic division for offensive behavior, he has returned from disgrace to lead Portland’s newly minted S.C.U. Tasked with navigating the city’s most sensitive and serious cases, he must solve each crime as he tries, and fails, to change his own self-destructive behavior. To no one’s surprise, Backstrom’s return is far from well-received, especially by his commanding officer, Police Chief Anna Cervantes. Running the day-to-day operations of the S.C.U. is Detective Nicole Gravely (Genevieve Angelson, House of Lies) the ambitious and optimistic yin to Backstrom’s yang, she extends herself to the limit to counterbalance his erratic and controversial behavior. By her side is Detective Sergeant John Almond (Dennis Haysbert, 24, The Unit), a tested veteran of the Bureau who doesn’t approve of Backstrom’s xenophobic antics; although he tries to find the light in people, when it comes to Backstrom, he sees only darkness. The group’s forensics liaison is Sergeant Peter Niedermayer (Kristoffer Polaha, Ringer, Life Unexpected), a handsome, free-spirited, philosophical man whose open approach to the universe pushes all of Backstrom’s buttons. Managing the chain of evidence at S.C.U. headquarters is civilian support Nadia Paquet (Beatrice Rosen, The Dark Knight), a beautiful French immigrant with a profound ability to navigate cyberspace. She also takes a liking to Backstrom and, at least technically, fills Backstrom’s doctor’s prescription to “make a friend.” On the street, uniformed officer Frank Moto (Page Kennedy, Blue Mountain State, Weeds) proves his value by suppressing the perpetrators and swiftly maneuvering around hostile conditions. Meanwhile, Gregory Valentine (Thomas Dekker, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), who serves as Backstrom’s tenant, decorator and underworld connection, has a genuine fondness for the abrasive cop. Using his dark instincts and peculiar abilities, Backstrom always manages to outsmart his foes, manipulate his peers and, with the help of his eccentric team, solve the case, even as he less ably adjusts to the progressive sensibilities of 21st century Portland.

Tonight is the series premiere of Million Dollar Critic on BBC America at 10/9c. The show introduces Giles Coren (Gordon Ramsay’s The F-Word), the bitingly funny and controversial restaurant critic of The London Times, to North America. It’s said that a positive review from the vigorous writer is worth a million dollars and that his words can change the fates and fortunes of the restaurants he visits. With help from his researcher Julia Pileggi, in each episode the host samples meals from five worthy restaurants and thrusts one lucky winner into the limelight by giving them his million dollar review.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Nightwatch on A&E at 10/9c. The hour-long series follows elite teams of emergency responders as they risk their lives to work the busiest and most unnerving shift of the day, the overnight shift in New Orleans, Louisiana. In the historic city of New Orleans, police officers, fire fighters and EMT’s working the overnight shift answer as many as a thousand emergency calls a night. It follows multiple sets of partners in the New Orleans Emergency Medical Services unit who cover the intense and unpredictable period from 8 PM to 4 AM as they battle time and circumstance to save lives. The skills, dedication and determination that these critical and dangerous jobs require are on full display nightly while each new traumatic call comes in. As the city’s heroes, one thing remains clear – the job of an emergency responder in NOLA is not only about saving lives, it’s being there as a support system for the community of people in this diverse and inspiring city.

Tonight is also the series premiere of This Is Not Happening on Comedy Central at 12:30AM/11:30PMc. Hosted by Ari Shaffir and based on his long-running live show, the show features Shaffir and his comedian friends telling hilarious and true stories in front of a live audience at LA’s most distinguished gentlemen’s club, Cheetahs. Throughout the season, comedians including Rob Corddry, D.L. Hughley, Keegan-Michael Key, Marc Maron, Steve Rannazzisi, Joe Rogan and Paul Scheer will tell their favorite, most embarrassing, or just plain funniest true-life tales around topics including Drugs, Emergencies, Wonder Years, Battles, Sexy Time, and Travel.

At the beginning of each episode, viewers are given a glimpse at how defensive a woman dedicated to outrageous fashion can become when Stacy reveals how strangers on the street rate her style: either “Love” “Lust” or “Run.” Next, each woman strips off her hair extensions, wild clothes, and garish makeup in order to start with a blank slate. Stacy then guides each woman through a transformative make-under, which will dramatically change her look and allow her to channel what she really wants from the outside world. Episodes will culminate when Stacy again takes to the streets to ask strangers to rate the woman’s transformed style as “Love” “Lust” or “Run.”

Saturday

Saturday is the series premiere of Pressure Cooker: Chef vs. Chef on FYI at 10/9c. It’s the eternal kitchen dilemma–you’re low on time and ingredients but you need
to get dinner on the table. What do you make? This task, impossible for some, is the ultimate challenge for others. On Pressure Cooker, exceptional home cooks from across the country compete against each other with the help of guest star celebrity chefs to create culinary masterpieces worthy of the world’s fiercest food critic. Every week, two pairs of home cooks face off for food critic and tasting expert Giles Coren, who selects the two best for a final round of competition alongside a celebrity chef. The ingredients used in competition arrive on specially designed, quick-moving conveyor belts that force home cooks to make split-second decisions about what to use before it’s gone. At any time, the conveyor belt can kick back into action forcing competitors to add ingredients to their dishes. In each episode of this high-stakes competition, presided over by host Anne-Marie Withenshaw, home cooks battle the belt and each other to have their creation named best dish, and to win a chance at being named Canada’s Best Home Cook in the season finale showdown. The Pressure is ON.

Tonight is also the season premiere of Black Sails on Starz at 9/8c.

Tonight is a new episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC at 11:29/10:29c, with host & musical guest Blake Shelton.
