Jenny’s Choice

thementalist218smallTonight is the 2-hour series finale of The Mentalist, and it promises to be a good one, considering last week’s episode ended in a cliffhanger! A young man was brought into the FBI by his sister, who claimed her brother was a psychic. Jane, once Lisbon was finally able to get him back to them, scoffs at the idea and tries to get under the young man’s lies, but he was unable to break him. In the end, the young guy’s sister was killed, and he was kidnapped and killed as well, and now Lisbon, Jane, and the rest of the team have to figure out by whom and why.

Meanwhile, Jane seems to have had a breakthrough on his mental state. Does that mean he’s ready to move forward with Lisbon and put the past—and his first marriage—behind him? He’s still wearing his wedding ring, so that’s gotta go at some point… I’ve really enjoyed seeing Lisbon and Jane as a real couple. It’s been a great payoff for those of us who have been shipping them from the very beginning. Seeing them have their happy ending will bring the series full circle for me.

On tonight’s first episode, “Brown Shag Carpet,” Jane agrees to once again pretend to be a renowned psychic and be used as bait in an attempt to lure out a serial killer and give the FBI a chance to apprehend him. Then on the series finale, “White Orchids,” Lisbon accepts Jane’s surprise marriage proposal, but a killer’s quest for revenge may cost them the happy ending they’ve worked so hard to achieve. Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti guest star.

To see if Jane can smoke out one final killer and if Lisbon and Jane get their happily-ever-after, tune in to CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Melissa & Joey, The Mysteries of Laura, The Goldbergs, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Mystery Diners, black-ish, Best New Restaurant, Chicago PD, Wahlburgers, & Donnie Loves Jenny.

Kyle’s Choice

empire218smallFOX’s Empire continues to grow its empire of fans—it has somehow managed to increase its ratings each week, something that is unheard of! On last week’s episode, Cookie took over the management of long-time Empire performer Elle (Courtney Love); Hakeem decided to go more hard-core with his lyrics; Lucious arranged for someone else to take the fall for his murder of Bunky; and after getting a taste of fame, Jamal decided to stay in the closet a bit longer, which didn’t sit well with his boyfriend. And the bombshell cliffhanger at the end of last week’s episode found Olivia (Raven-Symoné) arriving at the studio with a young child whom she claimed was Jamal’s.

This series feels like a throwback to the nighttime soaps of the 80s. I have really enjoyed the characters and the way the show rapidly moves from one dramatic plot twist to the next. I’m looking forward to learning more about Olivia and what kind of curve ball she throws into Jamal’s career and current relationship.

Is the investigation of Bunky’s murder really closed, or will this come back to haunt Lucious? And what kind of craziness will Cookie get up to next?

On tonight’s episode, “Our Dancing Days,” Lucious tries to brand Empire Entertainment as a tight-knit, family-run business which, ironically, complicates the already tense relationship between Hakeem and Jamal. Meanwhile, Cookie and Anika don’t hold anything back when it comes to taking over the company.

Follow the drama tonight on FOX at 9:01/8:01c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Mentalist, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Arrow, The 100, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy, The Americans, Man Seeking Woman, Suits, and Workaholics.
