Kyle’s Choice
Tonight, Showtime kicks off the new semi-autobiographical comedy Dice, which stars comedian Andrew Dice Clay playing an exaggerated version of himself. It’s been 25 years since Clay was “The Diceman,” and now he’s looking to reclaim his former glory by making a comeback in Las Vegas. However, the Brooklynite also has to deal with gambling debts, his demanding girlfriend Carmen (Natasha Leggero, Another Period) and two sons, Dillon and Max. But by his side is best friend, Milkshake (Kevin Corrigan, Grounded for Life).
While I wasn’t really a huge fan of Andrew Dice Clay in the 80s, I watched the first episode of this series and thoroughly enjoyed it. The series is written by Scot Armstrong (Road Trip, Old School), and it reminds me a lot of Curb Your Enthusiasm, though with much more explicit language. Clay, like Larry David, can be a bit stubborn and outspoken, and this leads to some really fun but awkward situations. The series also has some amazing guest stars, including Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos) and Michael Rapaport (The War at Home). Plus, a lot of other celebs – such as Adrien Brody, Criss Angel, Wayne Newton, and Rita Rudner – also appear as versions of themselves.
In a first for the network, Showtime is pulling a Netflix and will be releasing all six episodes of the first season starting today on the Showtime streaming service, Showtime Anytime App and Showtime On Demand. So you can check out the entire season right now (though I wouldn’t recommend watching with kids in the room). I’m really looking forward to checking out the other 5 episodes.
On tonight’s premiere, “Elvis,” Dice is tasked with getting his girlfriend’s brother a wedding gift, but he gets distracted at the casino and loses $100,000, which he then desperately tries to win back.
To catch up with Andrew Dice Clay, tune in to Showtime at 9:30/8:30c.
I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Family, Quantico, The Carmichael Show, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, The Last Man on Earth, Fear the Walking Dead, and The Girlfriend Experience.
