If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/4/16

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

notomorrow104smallTonight kicks off The CW’s fall premiere week, and joining the network’s Tuesday line-up is new romantic comedy No Tomorrow. Evie Callahan (Tori Anderson, Killjoys) likes order in her life and enjoys making herself lists. However, her life is in a bit of a rut – her boss Deirdre (Amy Pietz, The Nine Lives of Chloe King) doesn’t take her ambitions seriously, and things with on-again/off-again boyfriend Timothy (Jesse Rath, Defiance) are going nowhere. Meanwhile, free-spirited Xavier Holliday (Joshua Sasse, Galavant) has calculated that an asteroid will wipe out mankind in just 8 months and 12 days and has decided to live life to the fullest by checking off everything on his bucket list, which he calls his Apocalyst. When Evie meets Xavier, it’s love at first sight, and even though she doesn’t believe the world is going to end, Xavier’s charming personality and upbeat and adventurous attitude is just what she needs to help add some excitement back into her life. But she’s also a little concerned that Xavier might be crazy, and so Evie enlists the help of conspiracy theorist Hank (Jonathan Langdon, Game On) and nihilist Kareema (Sarayu Blue, Monday Mornings) to help her figure this out.

This is the first new show of the season I’m recommending sight-unseen. However, the premise sounds fun, the show looks pretty promising based on the trailer, and I’ve really enjoyed the cast’s previous work (especially Joshua Sasse in Galavant). I can’t wait to check out tonight’s premiere! Plus, the lighter tone of the series should make it fairly good companion to The Flash in tonight’s CW line-up.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” a female procurement manager falls for a freewheeling man who believes the apocalypse is imminent, and the two begin a journey to complete their individual bucket lists.

See how Evie and Xavier meet tonight on The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, The Flash, Halt and Catch Fire, Aftermath, and Chrisley Knows Best.

brooklyn99104smallThe beginning of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s season has been fun. Jake and Holt are living in Florida in Witness Protection, in hiding from bad-guy Figgis. Jake is going stir crazy, and although he was putting on a brave face, Holt isn’t doing much better. Last week, when a woman caught them getting run over by go-karts at work and decided to put the video on YouTube, they got the idea to use that to lure Figgis to Florida in hopes of catching him so they could finally go home. Unfortunately for them, they got pulled over after buying a car load of guns and buckets of ammo, and they got put in holding. They tried to convince the sheriff that they were police and had them call their Witness Protection handler to confirm their story…but Figgis had already gotten ahold of her and told the sheriff he’d never heard of them. So they worked with the other people in holding and broke out (by kissing each other, no less!) so they could rescue their handler and catch Figgis. To do that, they finally decided to call the 99. Unfortunately for them and their friends at the 99, who were dealing with their own situation with their new captain, the new captain decided to finally tell them no about something and said they couldn’t take time off to go to Florida.

Ken Marino was funny as the new, temporary captain, and it was fun to see what each of the people wanted – Gina got an assistant (or two!), Terry a yogurt fridge, Charles a treadmill desk, and Rosa got to put walls up around her desk. Poor Amy was the only one unhappy with it all, and it was due to her that the new captain told them they couldn’t go to Florida. Obviously something changes this week, as that’s where they’re headed. It should be a lot of fun!

On tonight’s episode, “Coral Palms Pt 3,” the team makes a road trip to Florida to try to help Jake and Holt take down Figgis (guest star Eric Roberts, Suits). With an unforeseen injury and yet another interruption by Sheriff Reynolds (guest star Jim O’Heir, Parks and Recreation), the plan doesn’t follow through quite like they all had hoped. In the midst of the chaos, Jake and Amy share an awkward reunion.

To see if the team can finally take down Figgis, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped Junior, MasterChef Canada, NCIS, No Tomorrow, Aftermath, & Star Plates.
