Tonight marks the halfway point in the third season of Syfy’s Dark Matter. Last week the Raza crew finally learned what hitched a ride with them when they returned from their trip through time last season — it was their doppelgangers from the alternate universe, aboard their own Maurader. The evil Portia Lin and Boone infiltrated one of Zairon’s ships, releasing passengers out the airlock. This started giving our Two and Three a bad reputation and caused Commander Truffault to call off their alliance. Our crew eventually figured out what was going on and were able to stop the alternates. Afterwards, Adrian decided it was time for him to move on, and the others decided to make a trip to check in on Six. However, when they arrived at the colony, it appeared that everyone there was dead.
What happened to the colony? Is Six still alive? Is this really the last we’ve seen of Adrian and his bodyguard Solara? (I hope not, as I was really enjoying those characters — they were a great fit with the rest of the Raza crew!) Will Ryo be able to stop the fall of the House of Ishida? And will he ever return the nice Four we once knew?
On tonight’s episode, “Wish I Could Believe You,” an injured crew member is haunted by the past, unaware of the dangers that are lurking in the present.
Find out who’s haunted by the past tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.
I’ll also be watching/recording Friends From College, The Great British Baking Show, Ginormous Food, Killjoys, Wynonna Earp, and Playing House.

Last week on SyFy’s Wynonna Earp, the demon possession story arc finally came to its full culmination, clearing the Big Bad slate approximately in time for their midway point through season two. This was the first time we learned the demon’s name, despite the fact that the fiend had been “riding†Waverly since last season’s finale. The hellspawn is named Mikshun, and it got into Wynonna one episode back, segueing to the turning of tables wherein Waverly was tied to a chair to start the episode, whilst the beast gloated about how Wynonna was much easier to control than the stronger willed younger Earp sister. From there the demon made off with Wynonna’s identity by tagging along with Doc Holliday, who showed up ready to investigate the mysterious suitcase they recently recovered.
Before going too deep into the barrage of reveals this week contained, a new element was introduced in the form of a cult who sacrificed a demon and promised to hunt for more. The red-clad acolytes were menacing but, in my opinion at least, a little too reminiscent of the look that the Witness’s followers have on 12 Monkeys. Come on, Syfy. Diversify!
As Doc & the fully possessed Wynonna discovered a hidden symbol under the paint of the plate that the suitcase contained, a new lead was uncovered. The demon was brazen in her contortion of Earp’s personality though, and everyone could detect something was amiss. Meanwhile Agent Dolls stumbled upon Waverly, who was left bound at the Earp ranch. She quickly convinced him the demon moved on to “ride†Wynonna instead, and they contemplated what to do next. Before they had a chance to act, however, Agent Lucado showed up and a viscous battle ensued.
Following up on the only other place that secret symbol had been spotted, Doc & Wynonna found the local Fireman’s Hall thick with what was obviously the cult we were introduced to earlier that episode. They detected that a demon was in Wynonna, and Mikshun retreated. But it was too late, ’cause Doc had picked up on it by then as well; so he thwaped her and put her in the trunk.
After a short regroup, Doc and Waverly dug up the name and some leads on The Order, as it turned out they were called, while Dolls came up with a sample of the demon’s root goo by chopping off one of Wynonna’s fingers. (The finger grew back quick, as we’ve seen Mikshun do before.) Agent Lucado was infected with the demonic influence, and her head exploded. Waverly used a concoction made by Dolls that was able to coax the demon out of Wynonna…but right back into Waverly!!
This led to a standoff at the barn on the Earp farm, with the remaining Black Badge agents, The Order, and the demon, in possession of Waverly once more. Wynonna traded the plate with the spooky symbol to The Order to get a face-to-face with her (once again) possessed sibling. She forced Waverly to drink a potion to draw the demon out. And that time she used her unholy gun, Peacemaker, to finish the deed. She slayed the beast while it was outside of both their bodies, finally sending it back to Hell. After that, the cult casually retreated.
And to top it all off, after all that massive dramatic conflict and resolution? The episode ended with two mega reveals: The Black Badge home office seems to have vanished, andddddd…the bad-mouthing alcoholic antihero herself, Wynonna Earp, is pregnant!!
On tonight’s episode, “Whiskey Lullaby,†the team races against the clock to save Purgatory before the whole town takes a permanent dirt nap.
See if the team can save the town tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.
I’m still kind of on summer vacay, so I’ll be dancing to Phish tonight in Chicago. But if I were anywhere else in the world, I’d also be watching Killjoys & Dark Matter. Besides, I will binge those shows next time I can!
