If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/2/17

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, FOX kicks off the new family adventure series, The Gifted, which is set in the Marvel universe of The X-Men. Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer, Shots Fired, True Blood), the tough district attorney in charge of prosecuting crimes committed by mutants, suddenly finds himself on the other side of the law when his teenage children, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind, The Goldbergs, Gotham) and Andy (Percy Hynes White, Night at the Museum 3) discover they have mutant powers. Reed and separated wife/nurse Caitlin (Amy Acker, Person of Interest, Angel) take their kids on the run, where they encounter the mutant underground, led by John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford, Satisfaction). The other mutants include Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale, Reign), who uses his powers to help smuggle mutants into Mexico; Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung, Gotham), who has the ability to teleport; and Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont, Aquarius), who has magnetic abilities (wonder who she could be related to!). The series also stars Coby Bell (Burn Notice) as a man who struggles with the cold-blooded requirements of his job of rounding up the mutants.

This is one of the few new fall shows I haven’t had a chance to check out, but at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I got to talk with some of the cast about the series, and they got me really excited to check out tonight’s premiere. (You can find the videos from those interviews at NoReruns.net) The series is written by Matt Nix (APB, Burn Notice), the pilot was directed by Bryan Singer — who also directed several of the X-Men films — and the executive producers include Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, and Jim Chory, all of whom have had extensive experience with other Marvel TV shows and X-Men films. So there is a lot of great talent both in front of and behind the camera for this series, which makes it very promising. Also, FX recently did an excellent job with its X-Men universe series Legion, so I’m hoping for more of the same with FOX.

On tonight’s premiere, “eXposed,” a suburban couple’s lives are rocked by the discovery that their children possess mutant powers, forcing the family to go on the lam from a hostile government and seek help from an underground network of mutants.

Meet the newest mutants tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, The Big Bang Theory, 9JKL, Me, Myself & I, and Lucifer.

Lucifer returns tonight with the third season premiere, and I am incredibly excited. I’m not sure where this season is headed, but I really hope we get a good explanation as to why Lucifer ended up with his wings back. There is also a hope that Lucifer and Chloe will finally end up together, because there is amazing tension between them.

On tonight’s episode, “They’re Back, Aren’t They,” when a confused Lucifer wakes up in the middle of the desert with his wings back, he recruits the help of Chloe to help figure out what happened to him and why. Upon doing their own research, they come across a crime scene that could be tied to Lucifer’s kidnapping. When the Lancaster Police Department get involved, newcomer Lieutenant Marcus Pierce (Tom Welling) fails to make a great impression on everyone with his stern demeanor. The investigation goes awry when Lucifer finds himself in another compromising situation and something much darker is revealed.

To find out just what Lucifer has been up to, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Gifted, The Big Bang Theory, Scorpion, 9JKL, The Good Doctor, The Brave, The Voice, and Kevin Can Wait.
