Tonight is the series premiere of Ultimate Summer Cook-Off on Food Network at 8/7c. Six talented chefs enter the summer house to square off in the new primetime culinary series, Ultimate Summer Cook-Off. Whether it’s a chef with a restaurant right on the beach, a seafood master, or a chef from Hawaii, each competitor has their own connection to the summer season and their culinary reputations at stake. Host Eddie Jackson challenges the chefs over four episodes, as each competitor must take on two rounds of summer culinary heats that test their skill and creativity. The chef who wins the first challenge in each episode will receive a key advantage during round two, gaining access to a special cooler with high-end ingredients that no other competitor can use, before presenting their creations to a panel of expert judges. Damaris Phillips and Jamika Pessoa are joined by a roster of special guest judges each week, including Mark Anderson and Ryan Fey, Susie Bulloch, Lazarus Lynch, Courtney Rada, and pitmaster Cameron Treu, to determine which chef exemplifies what summer is all about with their dishes and earns the $25,000 grand prize.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Ultimate Ninja Challenge on Discovery Channel at 10/9c. In the brutal cold of the unforgiving Pacific Northwest wilderness, nine modern-day warriors take on a relentless, 24-day survival challenge based on the ancient laws of the Ninja. Eight grueling missions created by Jinichi Kawakami, the last known Ninja, will push each warrior’s body, mind, and spirit to their breaking points. Those who complete the entire survival challenge will receive a final lesson from the master himself in Iga City, Japan, the legendary home of the Ninja – and prove that they can endure the Ultimate Ninja Challenge. Following in the footsteps of the ancient order, nine individuals each living their own interpretation of the life of a “warrior” will use their unique skills to attempt to survive challenges based on the sacred Kuji principles of the Ninja. These male and female warriors range from martial arts experts, a world-class survivalist, a UFC fighter, a veteran fireman and former military who all want to prove to themselves that they can endure any hardship when they take on the Ultimate Ninja Challenge. With limited food and water, the warriors endure harsh conditions and challenges that include trekking through a frigid swamp, surviving overnight on an icy glacier, crossing a raging river, escaping imprisonment, and more, all while enduring sleep deprivation and debilitating hunger. Failure to complete any mission will force them to leave the challenge, and only those with the strongest stamina and willpower will make it to Japan for the final challenge. This is not conventional survival – this is the Ultimate Ninja Challenge.

Tonight is the series premiere of Lodge 49 on AMC at 10/9c. This is a light-hearted, endearing modern fable set in Long Beach, California about a disarmingly optimistic local ex-surfer, Dud (Wyatt Russell), who’s drifting after the death of his father and collapse of the family business. Dud finds himself on the doorstep of a rundown fraternal lodge where a middle-aged plumbing salesman and “Luminous Knight” of the order, Ernie (Brent Jennings), welcomes him into a world of cheap beer, easy camaraderie and the promise of Alchemical mysteries that may — or may not — put Dud on the path to recover the idyllic life he’s lost.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Reality Cupcakes on Food Network at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c. New York baker Ashley Foxen is known for creating unique, unexpected cupcakes that resemble whatever her clients imagine. Joined by her mom Denise, brother Alex and sister Lindsay, her up-and-coming business has become the go-to spot for bite-sized edible art that can fool even the most discerning eye. Food Network takes viewers behind-the-scenes as Ashley and her family create cupcakes that look like anything but cupcakes.

Tonight is the series premiere of Carter on WGN America at 10/9c. The show revolves around Harley Mackay (Jerry O’Connell), an actor playing a detective on a hit television show until he is forced to retreat to his sleepy hometown after an embarrassing public meltdown in Hollywood. Now that he’s back, he taps into his acting experience to become a real-life detective, partnering with his two best friends, Sam Shaw (Sydney Poitier Heartsong) and Dave Leigh (Kristian Bruun).

Tonight is also the series premiere of Castaways on ABC at 10/9c. This is a revolutionary series testing the human need for companionship under extreme circumstances as each individual learns there are other castaways out there but are unaware of how many, their locations or when they will be rescued. The show follows 12 diverse individuals as they’re dropped alone throughout various islets in Indonesia and challenged to survive among washed-up luggage, scattered resources and abandoned structures. The only way to leave the remote islands is to persevere long enough to be rescued or to quit. As dramatic situations unfold on an expanse of islands in the South Pacific, the series flashes back to the real lives of each participant in documentary fashion, demonstrating haunting parallels to the lives they left behind.

Saturday

Saturday is the series premiere of The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers on Oxygen at 7/6c. What begins as an exploration into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Crystal Rogers, a mother of five vanishing from the tiny town of Bardstown, Kentucky, quickly spirals into the dissection of multiple unsolved homicides haunting this idyllic, heartland community. Presumed dead and the victim of foul play, it has been over two years and there have been no arrests made in Crystal’s case. Additionally, Crystal’s father, Tommy Ballard, who was conducting his own 16-month investigation into his daughter’s disappearance, was shot down and died, leaving a box of clues behind. This series will follow Emmy Award-nominated reporter Stephanie Bauer and veteran homicide detective Dwayne Stanton, who has worked on celebrity cases and more than 750 homicide investigations, as they relentlessly unearth new leads, insights and information.

Tonight is also the season premiere of The Vanilla Ice Project on DIY at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c, and the season finale of Say Yes to the Dress on TLC at 8/7c.
