I’m so excited that FOX’s Sunday animated comedies return tonight for all new seasons. While I still enjoy the long-running The Simpsons (starting its 30th season!) and Family Guy (its 17th season), relative newcomer Bob’s Burgers has easily become my favorite of the bunch. Whether it’s frustrated Bob dealing with a restaurant issue, Linda coming up with some wacky new idea to bring the family closer, Gene or Louise getting up to no good, or Tina having boy trouble, there’s always something fun and crazy going on in the Belcher household. No matter which family member(s) the main storyline revolves around on, there’s always loads of laughs, and some fun original song related to the events of the episode during the credits.

Tonight’s ninth season premiere brings back some of my favorite recurring characters on the show, the boy band Boyz 4 Now, because that usually means we are going to get a music-filled episode. I loved tonight’s premiere, which finds Boyz 4 Now coming town, auditioning for a replacement band member, and boy-crazy Tina constantly experiencing love-at-first-sight as she meets each potential new band member. The episode features several fun original musical numbers as Tina daydreams her elaborate relationships with each of the boys. The writers of this series are so creative and talented – each of the songs is written in a different style, showcasing the different types of boys Tina is falling for. Tonight’s episode is a great start to the season, and I can’t wait to see more of all three of the FOX animated Sunday comedies. It’s great to be able to check my TiVo To Do list and see brand new episodes listed!

On tonight’s premiere, “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now for Now,” convinced she’s met the love of her life, Tina disguises herself as a boy and sneaks into the Boyz 4 Now auditions to find him; Teddy asks the rest of the Belcher gang to nurse his baby rat back to health.

See if Tina finds her new man tonight on FOX at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording God Friended Me, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Fear the Walking Dead, You, and Kidding.

The season finale of NCIS: LA left us on a pretty steep cliffhanger with the team all on the brink of death in Mexico. They were in Mexico saving Mosley’s son, and after he was with her, Deeks and Kensi headed back to save Sam and Callen. Unfortunately. their truck was shot, and we are unsure if they survived. Hidoko was missing, and we have yet to find out if she is alive, which is disappointing because I have come to enjoy her addition to the team. Time will tell if our favorite agents can survive this situation or if we are going to lose someone for good.

On another note for losing someone… Kensi and Deeks are at a crossroads in their relationship. Deeks wants to leave their dangerous job and have a family, but Kensi doesn’t want that. I hope these two can work it out, because this is a couple that was meant to be.

On tonight’s episode, “To Live and Die in Mexico,” gravely injured and unable to communicate with the team in the US, Callen, Sam and Kensi, with an unconscious Deeks in tow, search for a safe way home as a cartel boss places a “dead or alive” bounty on their heads. Also, Mosely and retired Navy Admiral Hollace Kilbride beseech their contacts in Mexico and DC for assistance with their missing colleagues.

To find out if they can make it out of Mexico, tune in to CBS at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching God Friended Me and Halloween Wars.

In the stretching eternity that is the wait between seasons of Rick & Morty, Adult Swim has been airing the latest batch of The Venture Bros episodes. I’ve been watching, and there have been a few chuckles from a show that can’t get much more than a “meh” out of me because of the huge lapses in time when the show goes into hibernation. The most recent installation revolved heavily around the Guild of Calamitous Intent’s Council reacting to an obscure rule that Dr. Mrs. The Monarch (formerly Dr. Girlfriend) discovered. The rule stated that members of the Council must not be active super-villains. So they all decided to do one last arch before retiring from active status.

Meanwhile, Dr. Venture was warned about a black widow femme fetal that married rich men then killed them. Instead of being scared, Dr. Venture was instead turned on by the idea of her trying to seduce him. The last arch storyline saw (Two-face satire) Radical Left playing Clue against himself as his arch. Dr Z. and Action Johnny bonded at the mental institute where Johnny now lived. This was a bittersweet reminisce, celebrating that this whole show is just one big Johnny Quest satire and even poor Johnny grew up to live in the crazy bin. Dr. Mrs The Monarch embarrasses herself in front of her old arch, who turns out to also be Dr. Ventures femme fatal – Novia. We never get to find out if she would have either slept with or killed Dr. Venture though, because he passed out on anti-venom medication he took preemptively.

I think the plot gets in the way of the humor on this show these days. They’ve spent two seasons (five years) now transitioning Team Venture to Manhattan. Dr. Mrs. has ascended to the Council, while her husband The Monarch is hitting a lull in his career. I know the whole show is a vehicle for “beta male insecurities” its creators need to vent, but they just used to be a lot funnier when the plots were more episodic and self-standing. Anyways… This season is done soon, and the Sunday Night Cartoons will be back in full swing just as this show once more bows out, presumably for another 2 years.

On tonight’s episode, “The Forecast Manufacturer,” the city is hit with a mysterious blizzard that launches Team Venture into action; the Monarch and 21 are sent on a deadly mission to a secret island fortress.

Find out how Team Venture handles the odd blizzard tonight on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) at 12AM/11PMc.

I’ll also be watching Kidding, Get Shorty, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Ballers, and Shameless.

I love this time of year for a lot of reasons, one of which are the Halloween competition shows on Food Network. So I’m really happy about tonight’s season premiere of Halloween Wars. If you’ve never seen this show, six teams (each comprised of an expert pumpkin carver, a cake artist, and a sugar master) compete in five episode to create Halloween-themed edible displays that range from scary to cute to funny.

The first round is always something small and quick but still amazing, and the winner of that round gets an advantage going into the second round, where the teams have to make a much bigger display as well as a special treat for the judges – cake decorator Shinmin Li, horror film special effects master Todd Tucker, and a rotating panel of celebrity guests, including movie director Mick Garris, Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things), and more, as they determine which team takes home the grand prize of $50,000 at the end of the five episodes.

On tonight’s episode, “The Boogeyman’s Nightmare,” the teams have to create displays that depict a monstrous creature so scary that it’s the Boogeyman’s greatest nightmare.

Also, before the premiere, catch the 1-hour “Road to Halloween Wars Season 8” special, where more Halloween warriors look to join the battle; 18 of the best pumpkin carvers and cake and sugar artists in the world. And then after the premiere, it’s the 1-hour “Even More Monstrous Scares,” special, where we’ll go digging up even more of the creepiest ghosts, scariest witches, werewolves, yummiest treats, and most mind-blowing displays in the history of Halloween Wars.

Don’t miss the fun specials and premiere tonight on Food Network starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing NCIS: LA.
