If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/6/18

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

It’s another night of fun cooking shows for me, and first up is the season premiere of The Great American Baking Show on ABC. Last season was scrapped after the season premiere when judge Johnny Iuzzini came under fire for sexual harassment (unrelated to this show). Because of that, we missed out on watching this show last year. So it’s been almost a year now since we last saw it, and now we get to meet a new cast as well as a new host and judge!

Ayesha Curry won’t be back as host. Alongside Anthony “Spice” Adams will be Emma Bunton…otherwise known as Baby Spice in the Spice Girls group. And joining last season’s judge (& judge on The Great British Baking Show!) Paul Hollywood is fabulous pastry chef Sherry Yard, who also judged Halloween Baking Championship. I don’t know if I care about either of hosts – I don’t know them well enough yet to – but I really enjoy both judges, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have up their sleeves for the bakers this season.

On tonight’s 2-hour premiere, “Cake and Pastry Week,” it’s on your marks, get set, bake…slices of cake, and sweet and savory pastries.

Meet the contestants and new judge and host tonight on ABC starting at 9/8c.

Tonight, NBC airs the fall finale of The Good Place. In the last episode, the Soul Squad headed to Canada so that Michael and Janet could talk to Doug Forcett – the man who had come the closest to guessing what the Good Place was really like. They were hoping to use Doug’s way of life as a blueprint for how to get into the Good Place. However, they discovered that Doug was miserable, sacrificing his own happiness in order to maximize his points and ensure himself a spot in the Good Place. Doug grows his own food, recycles his urine for water, and allows a young sociopath to torment him. Michael and Janet realize they’ve made a horrible mistake. Meanwhile, back at the bar, Eleanor decides to tell Chidi about the relationship they had in the Good Place, and then she confesses her love for him. However, this is interrupted as all Hell (literally) breaks out in the bar. Shawn and some of his demons have shown up to drag Eleanor and the others to the Bad Place. Fortunately, Janet knows martial arts and manages to take down the demons, throwing them through a portal Michael opened to the Good Place. Just as it looks like everything’s going to be okay, a second wave of demons arrives, and so Janet takes Michael and the others into her void, though she states that they will all die on Earth when they enter.

So, what awaits our Soul Squad in the void? If they are now dead again, does that mean the series won’t be returning to Earth again anytime soon? It’s amazing how often this show throws in huge twists and is constantly re-inventing itself! I can’t wait to see what Janet’s void looks like and what new adventure awaits our group. Also, now that Chidi has had some time to process what Eleanor proclaimed, how will he react?! In some forking good news, NBC just announced that the series has been picked up for a fourth season, so there is a lot more to come – and who knows where the series and characters will be by the time the new season begins next year?!

On tonight’s mid-season finale, “Janet(s),” while Eleanor and the gang contend with an intense out-of-body experience, Michael hatches a plan with Janet’s help.

Visit the void with the Soul Squad tonight on NBC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Great American Baking Show, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Superstore, Will & Grace, I Feel Bad, Top Chef, and Nightflyers.

S.W.A.T. has been full of excitement week after week, and we have seen that Hondo has some issues of his own to deal with. Those issues brought his relationship with the attorney to an end because he knows he needs to work on himself first. Speaking of relationships, Chris is currently in a polyamorous relationship with an engaged couple, and I’m sure this is going to lead to some very interesting situations to come. I am still hoping that Street and Chris end up together in the end, because their chemistry is amazing. Speaking of Street… He was allowed back on SWAT after the notorious case that allowed the boss to get some more money for the budget. Thank goodness, because I was missing him outside the team, even though we still saw him.

On tonight’s episode, “1000 Joules,” the SWAT team sets out to recover dozens of DNA evidence kits stolen from an LAPD crime lab and bring in the crew responsible, after a close friend of Captain Hicks is harmed during the theft. Also, financial strain at home makes it difficult for Deacon to focus on his role as leader of the SWAT division’s annual holiday toy drive.

To find out if the team can get the DNA kits back before it’s too late, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, The Great American Baking Show, I Feel Bad, and Top Chef.

My second pick tonight is another cooking competition favorite: Top Chef. This season, the show is headed to Kentucky, where 15 talented chefs from cities all across the US will compete for the title of Top Chef and the huge prize that’s always awarded. They’ll compete in Louisville, Lexington, and Lake Cumberland before heading to Macau, China, for the finale. Padma Lakshmi is back as host/judge, joined by Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, Graham Elliot, and Nilou Motamed.

I love this show because it’s given the TV food world some big names – such as Carla Hall and Richard Blais, & Stephanie Izard (who became the latest Iron Chef), among plenty of others. The challenges are always fun and the competition is always heated, and just like there’s always someone I really am drawn to and start to root for right from the beginning, there’s always a bad apple as well – someone who is either bully or rude or just irritating as all get-out – who is labeled the one to hate. It’s fun to watch either way!

On tonight’s super-sized 75-minute premiere, “The Fastest 2 Minutes in Cooking,” 15 chefs are off to the races at Churchill Downs for the ride of their lives; the chefs must make a dish that will appeal to a crowd of 200 at a Kentucky Derby party; Churchill Downs’s own chef David Danielson serves as guest judge.

Meet the 15 chefs and catch the start of their Kentucky journey tonight on Bravo at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Impractical Jokers, Will & Grace, Beat Bobby Flay, & S.W.A.T.
