Jenny’s Choice
I’ve been looking forward to the series premiere of Whiskey Cavalier since we first learned about it back in October 2017 with the casting of Scott Foley (Scandal, The Unit, Felicity) in the lead. A dramedy “cop†show with a great pair of leads? I’m in! And after seeing the first two episodes, I’m ALL in. Foley plays tough but tender (that’s ABC’s wording. Too funny not to leave in…) FBI super-agent Will Chase (codename: “Whiskey Cavalier”). Following an emotional breakup, Chase is assigned to work with badass CIA operative Francesca “Frankie” Trowbridge (codename: “Fiery Tribune”), played by Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead). Together, they lead an interagency team of flawed, funny, and heroic spies who periodically save the world (and each other) while navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance and office politics. Also on their team are Susan Sampson (Ana Ortiz, Devious Maids, True Blue, Ugly Betty) of the FBI, Jai Datta (Indian actor and comedian Vir Das) of the CIA, Ray Prince (Josh Hopkins, Quantico, Cougar Town), and Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Everybody Hates Chris).
This is very reminiscent of Castle and Bones, a lighthearted, comedic drama where the partner leads have a definite chemistry and a will-they/won’t-they partnership. As in: one of my favorite types of show. LOL So far, there’s nothing too deep about it, but really, with the state of the country right now, a fun, lighthearted show is just what we need. Tonight is a special preview of the pilot. I think it’s really just the pilot at a different day & time. So I’m treating it as the series premiere, and when it airs in its normal night and time this week, it’s just going to repeat the premiere from tonight. But after that, it’ll air new episodes on Wednesdays at 10/9c.
On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,†Will Chase and Francesca Trowbridge lead an interagency team of flawed, funny and heroic spies, all while navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance and office politics.
Meet Will & Frankie tonight on ABC at 11:35/10:35c.
I’ll also be watching/DVRing Private Eyes & Worst Cooks in America.
