Tonight ABC kicks off the new mystery/thriller/family drama Emergence. While ABC didn’t provide a screener for the series, they did make the first 9 minutes of the series available to watch on their web site, and I was hooked after checking it out this short preview. I am looking forward to seeing the full episode tonight!

Small-town police chief Jo Evans (Allison Tolman, Fargo) is at home with her 14-year-old daughter Mia (Ashley Aufderheide, The Slap) and father Ed (Clancy Brown, Earth 2) when there is a sudden, short, town-wide power outage. The outage also temporarily knocks out all electronic devices, causing a small plane to crash. When Jo heads to the crash site to investigate, she finds a mysterious young girl named Piper (Alexa Swinton), who has no memory of who she is or what happened. It’s unclear if she was part of the crash, but she doesn’t have a scratch on her. Jo brings Piper to the hospital to get her checked out but soon discovers that there are people posing as government agents who are looking for the girl. Jo decides to take Piper in to protect her until she can figure out more about this conspiracy surrounding who this girl is and what’s happening. But while the two are in the car, they start to experience some strange phenomena, and it seems like Piper may be the source.

Every year, at least one of the networks seems to have one of these high-concept mystery/thrillers in their new fall lineup, always trying to recreate the magic of Lost. And while many of them don’t make it, I always end up watching and enjoying these shows. This one has an interesting premise and a great cast, and I hope it sticks around. The cast also includes many recognizable TV faces, including Owain Yeoman (The Mentalist) as Benny Gallagher, Robert Bailey Jr. (The Night Shift) as Officer Chris Minetto, Zabryna Guevara (New Amsterdam) as Abby Fraiser, and Donald Faison (Scrubs) as Alex Evans.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we got a chance to talk about the series with the executive producer and some of the show’s amazing cast. Check out our videos from the press room at NoReruns.net.

Don’t miss tonight’s premiere on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Bless This Mess, mixed-ish, black-ish, This Is Us, The Resident, and USA Network’s preview of Treadstone.

If you remember last season’s finale, or rather, specifically the last minute of NCIS – and if you’re a fan of the show, you definitely remember – then you know this season should start off with a bang. On last season’s finale, Gibbs was hallucinating, seeing and talking to his dead ex-wife and what not, so when Ziva David showed up right in the last minute, Gibbs and viewers wondered for a moment if she were a hallucination too. But it was really Ziva in the flesh, and she was there to give Gibbs a warning that his life was in danger. Of course, that was all the information they gave us, choosing to wait until tonight’s season premiere to tell us why and from whom! A couple of things we do know: 1) Whatever it is has to be huge in order to draw Ziva back from the “dead,” and 2) Everyone is going to be SHOCKED to see Ziva alive (except maybe Bishop, who has had the “knowledge” that Ziva is alive for a while) – I especially can’t wait to see McGee’s reaction, since he’s the only one who actually knew her. So who is Gibbs in danger from, and why did Ziva know about it and come to warn him? This is certainly not the first time he’s been in danger – even extreme danger – since Ziva left. And if Ziva’s back, even though it’s just temporary – does that mean we’ll hear something new about Tony and their daughter? Since Michael Weatherly is busy on Bull, I doubt we’ll see him in person, but stranger things have happened!

On tonight’s episode, “Out of the Darkness,” Ziva surprises Gibbs with a cryptic warning, prompting him to question why she remained underground for years while being presumed dead by family and friends, and what led to her return.

Don’t miss seeing Ziva again tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Jeff Dunham: Beside Himself, The Conners, Chopped, FBI, The Little Couple, & NCIS: New Orleans.

When last season of New Amsterdam finished, we were left wondering who lived and who died after the ambulance crash. I am incredibly anxious to find out who makes it. Max and Georgia were in an ambulance on the way to the hospital with Dr. Sharpe and Dr. Bloom after the birth of their daughter when the ambulance was hit. I am concerned that Georgia died, because that would make for an interesting story twist but also heartbreaking. Hopefully going forward there are as many interesting medical cases as there were last season and a lot of personal development between our favorite doctors. I really want Bloom and Reynolds to get together as a couple for real because they are perfect together, and I really don’t like Reynolds’ fiancée.

Tonight on the season two premiere, “Your Turn,” Max works to find a new normal three months after the catastrophic accident and the birth of his daughter. Kapoor grapples with the stigmas of aging, and Iggy has a successful day that inspires a life-changing idea. Meanwhile, Reynolds deals with an unreliable new intern.

Find out who survives tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching This Is Us, The Voice, The Resident, NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, FBI, mixed-ish, and Emergence.
