Tonight is the series premiere of From Scratch on FYI at 6/5c. The show follows actor/producer/adventurer David Moscow on a worldwide expedition of making the world’s most incredible meals literally from scratch. After being presented a dish from a chef, David will then hunt, gather, forage and grow each ingredient to remake the meal. If a dish needs butter, David will milk a cow and churn it until he has butter. Salt will be sourced from the ocean in Iceland, tequila harvested from agave in Jalisco, and pork hunted in the wilds of Texas. David learns from the best in the biz about the overwhelming amount of work, craftmanship and passion that happens before ingredients show up in the kitchen.

Tonight is also the 2-hour series premiere of Washington on History Channel at 8/7c. The show tells the story of how a fatherless young soldier full of personal ambition becomes a leader of men willing to sacrifice all for the common cause. How a once-loyal British subject rises to battle an empire in a liberty-or-death campaign to forge a new nation. And then how, at the zenith of his power, the victorious general voluntarily steps down, becoming what King George III would call “the greatest man in the world.” Believing his public duty complete, he heads into retirement ready to be a farmer. But with the young country on the verge of collapse, he is once again called to lead, creating the most powerful and successful democracy in history. You may think you know George Washington, but there’s more to our preeminent founding father than you’ve been told. Washington chips away the marble to reveal the man at the heart of our nation’s story. You’ll never look at George Washington, or the founding of our country, the same way again.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Duncanville on FOX at 8:30/7:30c. From Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) and Mike and Julie Scully (The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation) comes Duncanville, an animated family comedy centered around a spectacularly average 15-year-old boy with a rich fantasy life, and the people in his world. Like most 15-year-olds, Ducan (Poehler) can see adulthood on the horizon: money, freedom, cars, girls…but the reality is more like: always being broke, driving with your mom sitting shotgun and babysitting your little sister. He’s not exceptional, but he has a wild imagination in which he’s never anything less than amazing. Duncan’s mom, Annie (Poehler), a parking enforcement officer who dreams of someday being a detective, lives in perpetual fear that her teenage son is one bad decision away from ruining his life and will do anything to stop him from doing so. Duncan’s father, Jack (Ty Burrell, Modern Family), husband to Annie, is a classic-rock-obsessed plumber who’s determined to be a better dad than the one he had. He’s constantly posting wonderful things about his family on Facebook and annoyed that his kids won’t friend him. Duncan’s 12-year-old sister, Kimberly (Riki Lindhome, Garfunkel and Oates: Trying to be Special, Another Period), is awkward, emotional and can hold grudges forever, while waiting patiently for revenge. She’s all emotions all the time and nobody’s problems are bigger than hers. Duncan confides in his friend and class clown, Bex (Betsy Sodaro, Another Period, Disjointed), so much so, he sometimes he even forgets she’s a girl. His stylish and swaggy friend, Yangzi (Yassir Lester, Making History), is proud to be a cool trend setter. Yangzi has learned that if he promotes companies on social media, they’ll always send him awesome free swag. Duncan’s next-door neighbor, Wolf (Zach Cherry, You, Crashing), is a bit reckless, having very little parental supervision. Guest voices in the series are Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation, Angie Tribeca) as Mia, Duncan’s on-again, off-again crush, who never met a cause to which she wouldn’t dedicate her life; and Wiz Khalifa (American Dad!, BoJack Horseman) as Mr. Mitch, the universally loved teacher/guidance counselor, and occasional gym coach and school nurse, due to budget cuts. Joy Osmanski (Santa Clarita Diet) voices Jing, Duncan’s six-year-old sister, who likes to shout “Watch me!” before executing the world’s slowest cartwheel.

Tonight is the series premiere of War of the Worlds on Epix at 9/8c. When astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. The world’s population waits for further contact with bated breath. They do not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out by a devastating attack; pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world. As aliens hunt and kill those left alive, the survivors ask a burning question – who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction? Emotional, cinematic and rooted in character, it is a unique marriage of human drama and the best science fiction. This is a story of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances – but they are more than just victims in a brutal war. For, as we will come to realize, the aliens’ savage attack on earth is not arbitrary: its seeds are being sown before our very eyes. Set in present-day Europe, War of the Worlds is a multi-faceted series, written and created by the BAFTA award winner Howard Overman (Misfits, Crazyhead, Merlin) based on the timeless story by H.G. Wells. It stars Gabriel Byrne, Natasha Little, Adel Bencherif, Daisy Edgar Jones, Elizabeth McGovern, Guillaume Gouix, Lea Drucker, & Stephane Caillard.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Slow Burn on Epix at 10/9c. Expanding on the podcast’s first season, Leon Neyfakh will look back on the Watergate crisis, excavating the strange subplots and forgotten characters involved in the downfall of a president — and flashing back to politically tumultuous times not so far removed from today.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of The Windsors: Inside the Royal Dynasty on CNN at 10/9c. This is a six-part CNN Original Series that tells the incredible, dramatic and emotional tale of the British Royal Family known as The Windsors. From the calamity of Wallis Simpson to the tragedy of Diana to the triumph of the recent Royal wedding, the docuseries uses stunning, never-before-seen footage and interviews with insiders to weave together the true story of a family that has survived war, divorce, and scandal to against all odds, thrive in the modern world. The series premiere, “Succession,” follows Prince Edward’s decision to abdicate the throne and marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson, leaving his younger brother King George to run a fragile country.

Overnight last night was the complete series premiere of the first part of Babies on Netflix. From nature to nurture, this docuseries explores the groundbreaking science that reveals how infants discover life during their very first year.

Overnight last night was also the complete first season premiere of Hunters on Amazon. Executive produced by Jordan Peele and led by legendary Al Pacino, Hunters follows a diverse band of Nazi hunters living in 1977 New York City. The Hunters, as they’re known, have discovered that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living among us and conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S. The eclectic team of Hunters will set out on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their new genocidal plans. The series also stars Logan Lerman, Jerrika Hinton, Josh Radnor, Kate Mulvany, Tiffany Boone, Greg Austin, Louis Ozawa Changchien, Carol Kane, Saul Rubinek, Dylan Baker, and Lena Olin.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Haunting in the Heartland on Travel Channel at 10/9c. Something evil lurks in the shadows of the close-knit communities, idyllic Main Streets and rolling fields of America’s heartland. Paranormal investigator and documentary filmmaker Steve Shippy witnessed this darkness firsthand as a child growing up in rural Michigan. Now, with the help of local eyewitnesses and historical records, he’s made it his mission to solve these mysterious hauntings and bring resolution to the living and the dead.
