Tonight is the series premiere of Expedition to the Edge on Discovery Channel at 9/8c. In 2018, Captain Clemens Gabriel, along with his family, including daughters aged five and six, and a group of modern-day explorers, set out on the adventure of a lifetime. They would journey through The Northwest Passage — one of the most dangerous nautical sea routes in the world located between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic. Known for its beauty and deceptive calm, many have attempted it, but very few have succeeded. In this new show, Captain Clemens and his rag tag group of family and friends will quickly learn the price of adventure when a voyage with friends unravels into a life-or-death crisis forcing all hands-on-deck. After several record-breaking summers of warm temperatures in the Arctic, Captain Clemens Gabriel and his crew of family and friends were 1 of 23 ships who expected smooth sailing as they attempted the perilous Northwest Passage through the Arctic in 2018. However, after setting sail from The Marshall Islands to tackle the impossible, they quickly encountered the coldest season in quarter century. 21 ships turned back immediately, but Captain Clemens Gabriel made the shocking decision to push through. Equipped with a 40-year-old boat, no formal training and no financial backing, the crew is a self-sustaining and unfunded group of modern explorers who must fix and correct every hardship and obstacle that stands in their way using only elbow grease and ingenuity. With an unfiltered look at the motivations, fears and struggles of the crew who survived a perilous 8-month journey into the legendary Northwest Passage, this is the story of one family on their epic, emotionally charged journey to follow their dream and have the adventure of a lifetime.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Vow on HBO at 10/9c. From Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning directors Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer (The Great Hack, The Square, Control Room) comes The Vow, a documentary series following a number of people deeply involved in the self-improvement group NXIVM over the course of several years. The series takes a deep, nuanced look at the organization faced with various charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, against its highest members – most notably founder Keith Raniere, who was convicted in June 2019 and is currently awaiting sentencing. Amidst claims by NXIVM participants of both profound transformation and devastating abuse, the series, like Noujaim and Amer’s previous films, seeks to reveal the issues behind the headlines and explore the emotional toll of unfolding events on these individuals.

Overnight was the series premiere of Pure on HBO Max. For as long as she can remember, 24-year-old Marnie’s mind has been flooded with uncontrollable X-rated thoughts, and she’s too ashamed to tell anyone. At her breaking point and stifled by her tiny Scottish hometown, Marnie impulsively hightails it to London. In the big city, Marnie finds a gang of new friends, all with their own foibles, who lead her to an unexpected diagnosis: a form of OCD nicknamed “Pure O,” where her obsessions manifest as intrusive sexual thoughts, and her compulsions are the unseen mental rituals she performs to quiet them. As Marnie moves in with her cheery schoolmate Shereen and befriends recovering addict Charlie, journalist and ladies-woman Amber, and Amber’s irresistible housemate Joe, will she learn to manage the deviant thoughts piling up inside her head?

Overnight was also the series premiere of Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness on HBO Max. This is a four-part buddy comedy docuseries that follows actor / documentarian / philanthropist Ravi Patel as he travels the world seeking answers surrounding life’s universal questions. At each stop throughout this comedically heartfelt journey, Patel is joined by a friend or family member, with whom he shares a big conflict or question about life. His travels take him to Mexico, Japan, South Korea and Denmark to explore the traditional customs of the people they meet and experience their unique approaches to life’s most pressing matters.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Celebrity Game Face on E! at 10/9c. Kevin and Eniko Hart return as the hosts of Celebrity Game Face (after a 1-episode special in July), guiding three teams of two celebrity participants through a ridiculous and wildly entertaining game night. Various games that are being played include “Big Facts” where partners must guess which personal fun facts are true or false, “Read My Lips” requires partners to guess phrases while wearing noise canceling headphones, and “Booty Shake” where partners must use their best dance moves to empty as many balls out of a box wrapped around their waist in a matter of seconds. The additional episodes will also have returning games such as the celebrity pairs completing a scavenger hunt through their homes, and guest judges Allison Holker and tWitch will return to judge the “Tik Talk” challenge, where teammates will have to act out popular dance moves. Only one team per episode will win the coveted “Hart of a Champion” trophy and all teams will be awarded money for their charity of choice.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Secrets in the Ice on Science Channel at 10/9c. Mysterious frozen lakes filled with bones, mummified bodies hanging from inside a glacier, and a 30,000-year-old virus frozen in ice brought back to life in a laboratory. Experts and scientists are exposing dark secrets, forgotten treasures, and lost relics from some of the coldest places on Earth. Using state of the art archaeological technologies and cutting-edge CGI animation, the show spotlights the mysteries that have been locked away in icy tombs all over the world for centuries. At the base of a massive glacier in Southern Greenland, Danish archeologists have discovered the remains of an ancient stone hut. Was this site the home to a Viking seer practicing black magic? In Siberia, archeologists have excavated a mummy with fantastical tattoos against the many warnings of locals. Have they uncovered buried treasure, or unleashed an ancient curse? From frozen remains of wooly mammoths and human remains on the peaks of Mount Everest, to buried underground military stations and enormous craters hidden beneath glaciers, the show reveals the mysteries in some of the most daunting, frozen places on Earth.

Overnight was the Class Action Park special on HBO Max. During its 1980s and 1990s heyday, New Jersey’s Action Park earned a reputation as the most insane — and possibly the most dangerous — amusement park that ever existed. It was known as a lawless land, ruled by drunk teenage employees and frequented by even drunker teenage guests. The rides were experimental and illogical, and seemed to ignore even the most basic notions of physics or common sense—not to mention safety. Class Action Park is the first-ever feature-length documentary to explore the legend, legacy, and truth behind a place that long ago entered the realm of myth. Shirking the trappings of nostalgia, the film uses investigative journalism, newly unearthed and never-before-seen documents and recordings, original animations, and interviews with the people who lived it to reveal the shocking true story for the first time.

Tonight’s Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play will exclusively stream on BET+ and will include fan favorites like Cassi Davis as Betty Ann “Aunt Bam” Murphy, David Mann as Leroy Brown and Tamela Mann as Cora Jean Simmons-Brown. Executive produced, directed, and written by Tyler Perry, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play centers around Madea’s great-grandson graduating from law school and the entire family gathering to celebrate the occasion. However, chaos ensues as some unexpected folks show up and Madea morphs into a life coach.
