This Week on TV – 9/6/20-9/12/20

Welcome to a new week of TV! It’s a weird week of TV again, but there’s still a lot on, so be sure you don’t miss anything!

**SPECIAL NOTE: If you haven’t checked out the daily TV schedules before, I urge you to do so. They are formatted very differently than the weekly, and you may like them better! (Personally, I do. I started doing them that way because they were easier for me to see what I wanted to watch/record! LOL) Thanks!**

Don’t forget to comment or Tweet @tvismypacifier to let us know what YOU are planning to watch!

Overnight was the premiere of the film Black Boys on Peacock TV. This is a documentary film that celebrates the full humanity of Black men and boys in America. From EOnline.com: “Our intention with this film and future films like it is to give visuals to the reality that the humanity of Black people lives on a wide spectrum,” said executive producer Malcolm Jenkins. “This project is focused on the humanity of Black boys. No segment group is monolithic. What we are displaying in this film is how Black boys’ bodies have been commodified, our minds completely disregarded, and our feelings, creativity, and love painted over by society. Operating in a society that fears them, Black men and Black boys face a unique kind of trauma. We need white people, and everyone for that matter, to see that the identity of the Black boy is under attack as early as preschool to adulthood. We all have a responsibility to help map the future of our children, and how our children preserve the world around them. Next up is Black Girls!”

Tonight is the 1-hour 9/11 Remembered: The Day We Came Together special on ABC at 8/7c. The hour-long special, filmed on May 15, 2014, marks President Barack Obama’s opening of the 9/11 Memorial Museum and reflects the unwavering courage, compassion, and sacrifice born out of that tragic morning. The special includes moving and inspiring stories about those who died and those who survived, their families, and the swell of first responders who rushed to help them. It was a time of fear and uncertainty as we lost people we loved and the future felt unclear. But it was also a time when we came together — as neighbors, as friends, as fellow Americans — to support each other and rediscover the best within ourselves. From that, hope was reborn. In addition to President Barack Obama and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, other dignitaries, survivors, family members, first responders and more share their personal stories, woven together with objects in the museum that recall their experience. Such mementos include a watch, a pair of shoes and a mother’s voice recording to her son on the plane. The faces of those we lost and the faces of their families draw a picture of people just like us, a dad, a child, a sister – each one a precious life worth remembering. Performances include a 300-voice children’s choir singing “Somewhere,” the New York Philharmonic performing “Fanfare for the Common Man,” and “Amazing Grace” sung by Tony Award(R)-nominated singer LaChanze. In addition, processionals with honor guards and the national colors, video clips, imagery and artifacts from the museum, help turn ground zero into hallowed ground.

Tonight is also the 1-hour 9/11: The Final Minutes of Flight 93 special on History Channel at 8/7c. On September 11, 2001, one hijacked plane never reached its target when United 93 crashed in rural Pennsylvania; previously classified streams of evidence are combined to piece together what really happened there.

Following that is a 1-hour 9/11: The Pentagon special, also on History Channel, at 9/8c. The story of what happened inside the Pentagon in the minutes after a hijacked airliner crashed into the building as part of the largest coordinated terror attack on American soil, as told by the men and women who lived it.

Bette Midler, Kaitlyn Dever (Unbelievable, Booksmart), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Sarah Paulson (American Crime Story), and Issa Rae (Insecure) star in this special presentation that explores our current world of deeply divided politics and the universal pursuit of human connection. Originally conceived for the Public Theater in New York, Coastal Elites took the leap from the stage to the screen at the beginning of the pandemic and evolved in real time as the unprecedented events of 2020 unfolded. Filming took place earlier this summer under quarantine guidelines. The movie spotlights five distinct and impassioned points-of-view across the United States. When the shutdown forces these characters to cope in isolation, they react with frustration, hilarity and introspection.
