Overnight was the complete first season premiere of Code 404 on Peacock. DI John Major (Daniel Mays, White Lines) and DI Roy Carver (Stephen Graham, Boardwalk Empire) are the best of the best at an elite police unit in London. After Major’s cover is blown and he is met with his untimely death, he is brought back to life with some glitchy AI technology. Now, he’s better than ever — or so he thinks. It also stars Anna Mawell Martin.

Overnight was also the series premiere (the first three episodes) of Gangs of London on AMC+. Gangs of London’s critically acclaimed first season was a huge success in the UK as it took audiences on an immersive journey into the hidden heart of the capital. Set in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic and multicultural cities, Gangs of London tells the story of a city being torn apart by the turbulent power struggles of the international gangs that control it and the sudden power vacuum that’s created when the head of London’s most powerful crime family is assassinated. The series stars a multi-talented ensemble cast including Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Pure, Black Mirror), Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Humans), Colm Meaney (Star Trek, Hell on Wheels, Layer Cake), Lucian Msamati (His Dark Materials, Black Earth Rising, Kiri), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Suits), Paapa Essiedu (Press, Kiri), and Pippa Bennett-Warner (MatherFatherSon, Harlots, Sick Note). For 20 years, Finn Wallace (Meaney) was the most powerful criminal in London. Billions of pounds flowed through his organization each year. But now he’s dead — and nobody knows who ordered the hit. With rivals everywhere, it’s up to the impulsive Sean Wallace (Cole), with the help of the Dumani family headed by Ed Dumani (Msamati), to take his father’s place. If the situation wasn’t already dangerous enough, Sean’s assumption of power causes ripples in the world of international crime. Perhaps the one man who might be able to help him and be his ally is Elliot Finch (Dìrísù), who up until now, has been one of life’s losers, a lowlife chancer with a mysterious interest in the Wallace family. But as the wind of fate blows, Elliot finds himself transported to the inner workings of the largest criminal organization in London. It doesn’t end with the Wallaces though, there are shadowy higher powers at play.

Overnight was also the complete first (limited series) season premiere of The Salisbury Poisonings on AMC+. The show tells the remarkable story of how ordinary people and public services reacted to a crisis on their doorstep, displaying extraordinary heroism as their city became the focus of an unprecedented national emergency. In March 2018, the eyes of the world turned to the British city of Salisbury when it became the epicenter of what has been described as one of the biggest political events of the 21st century – but until now, the heroic acts behind the headlines have not been told. Within three days of the assassination attempt on double agent and spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, key agencies discovered that a lethal nerve agent called Novichok was used, just half a teaspoon of which could kill 20,000 people. Within four days, hundreds of traces were found across the city, and, just when things were finally thought to be under control, a perfume bottle containing the nerve agent was discovered, throwing the investigation into renewed chaos.

Overnight was also the complete first season premiere of A World of Calm on HBO Max. The ten-episode series is a totally new type of television experience that combines mesmeric imagery with narration by A-list stars. Narrators include Mahershala Ali, Idris Elba, Oscar Isaac, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Lucy Liu, Cillian Murphy, Keanu Reeves, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, and Kate Winslet. The soothing imagery and tranquil narration will provide audiences of all ages a respite from the stress and chaos of everyday life right now. A timely antidote for our modern lives, each half-hour episode takes audiences on an immersive visual journey into another world. Building on the record-breaking success of Calm’s Sleep Stories(TM) – bedtime stories for grown ups with over 250m listens – each relaxing tale is designed to transform how you feel. Transporting the viewer into tranquility through scientifically-engineered narratives, enchanting music and astounding footage, to naturally calm your body and soothe the mind. Each story is brought to life by a different iconic voice and will take viewers on a journey everywhere from a noodle maker’s kitchen in Seattle, to the forests of Latvia, and beyond our solar system to the outer stretches of the universe.

Tonight is also the US series premiere of Death in Paradise on Ovation on 7/6c, with 3 episodes following, for a total of four episodes each Thursday. The much-loved British detective, fish-out-of-water drama series stars an international cast including Ben Miller, Sara Martins, Danny John-Jules, Gary Carr, Don Warrington, and Élizabeth Bourgine. The first six seasons of Death in Paradise will air on Ovation TV in four-hour blocks. At the start of the series, UK detective Richard Poole (Ben Miller) is assigned to investigate the murder of a British police officer on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie. After he successfully finds the murderer, he is ordered by his supervisors to replace the victim and stay on as the head detective inspector of the island, solving new cases as they appear and being the object of many fish-out-of-water jokes. Kris Marshall joins the series as detective Humphrey Goodman in seasons 3-6; Ardal O’Hanlon joins as Jack Mooney in season 6.

Tonight is the series premiere of CripTales on BBC America at 10/9c. Saturday

Saturday is the season premiere of Saturday Night Live on NBC at 11:29/10:29c, with host Chris Rock and musical guest Megan Thee Stallion.

Tonight is the TV movie Country at Heart on Hallmark at 9/8c. Jessy Schram (Falling Skies), Niall Matter (Eureka), and Lucas Bryant (Haven) star. Struggling Nashville singer/songwriter Shayna Cook (Schram) is on the verge of giving up on her career and returns to her small-town home of Silverado just as their local music festival is about to kick off, when a chance encounter with prolific songwriter Grady Connor (Matter) changes everything. He’s trying to write a song for country music star Duke Sterling (Bryant) and Shayna seems like the perfect writing partner. Shayna and Grady grow close and romance blooms as they work on their love song but when she meets Duke, he begins to see her star potential and asks her to be his opening act at the upcoming festival. Although this seems like the opportunity of a lifetime for Shayna, the contentious history between Duke and Grady threatens to undermine everything she and Grady created. As her big break at the music festival approaches, Shayna feels forced to choose between love and possible stardom. Featured in the movie are musical performances by each of the three lead actors, including the original songs “Big Deal,” “A Life in a Love,” and “Right in Front of You,” all written specifically for the movie.
