Overnight was the complete first season premiere of Buried by the Bernards on Netflix. In this reality series, the bickering but big-hearted Bernards manage their budget-friendly funeral home while helping grieving families say farewell.

Overnight was the complete first season premiere of Nadiya Bakes on Netflix. Delightful cakes and heavenly breads pop from the oven as Nadiya Hussain returns to baking, her happy place, and spotlights creative kindred spirits.

Tonight is also the 79-minute series premiere of Hip Hop Uncovered on FX at 9/8c, followed by a 75-minute second new episode at 10:19/9:19c. This is an examination of a dying breed of power brokers who operate from the shadows of hip hop. Set against 40 years of music history, this six-part documentary series, directed by Rashidi Natara Harper, takes a deep dive into the paradox of America’s criminalization of the genre and its fascination with the street culture that created it and still exists within it. Instead of telling the story of hip hop from the top down, Hip Hop Uncovered tells the story from the streets up, as it reveals the untold story of how America’s streets helped shape hip hop culture from an expression of survival and defiance into music’s most dominant genre.

Overnight was a documentary special, If I Can’t Have You: The Jodi Arias Story, on Discovery+. Jodi Arias is a household name, synonymous with one of the most heavily covered murder cases of all time. When she was put on trial for the murder of Travis Alexander, Arias was villainized on television screens across the nation. From photos at the scene to Arias’ inconsistent story, all signs pointed to her guilt, until now. The documentary special grants viewers access to Arias’ personal diaries, unseen police interviews and exclusive testimony, and interviews with the defense, prosecution, and friends and family of those connected to the case. The documentary crisscrosses through time, taking viewers from scenes of the trial, to Arias’ journal, to the first steps taken inside the crime scene after the murder occurred. Interwoven with interviews with Arias’ defense attorney, friends of Travis Alexander and family members of Arias, this special gives an intimate view of the tumultuous relationship that Arias and Alexander continued behind closed doors. This two-hour asks: is Jodi Arias a sociopathic murderer, or is she a misunderstood woman who acted in self-defense? With incredible access to her personal diaries, viewers will see Arias in a way they never have before, either proving what they’ve known all along, or inciting new questions in the love-gone-wrong case that rocked the nation.

Overnight was also the premiere of the feature film Judas and the Black Messiah on HBO Max. This is a 2021 American biographical drama film directed and produced by Shaka King, from a screenplay written by King and Will Berson, based on a story by King, Berson, and Kenny and Keith Lucas. Based in Chicago, the film details the betrayal of Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya), chairman of the Black Panther Party in the late 1960s, at the hands of William O’Neal (Lakeith Stanfield), an FBI informant. Jesse Plemons, Dominique Fishback, Ashton Sanders, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Lil Rel Howery, Algee Smith, and Martin Sheen also star.

Overnight was a Disney+ special, Marvel’s Behind the Mask. From the very inception of comic books, secret identities have been an integral part of both super heroes and villains leading “normal” lives. But it’s the characters beneath that resonate within us across generations of fans. Since the advent of the Marvel Age of Comics in the early 1960s, Marvel’s writers and artists have used the notion of identities to examine the evolving concept of equal rights. These legendary Marvel creations and stories have not only reflected the world outside our window – they have become a reflection of our own identities and who we truly are. Marvel’s Behind the Mask will feature guests from across Marvel’s 80-year legacy, including the writers and artists behind the rise of characters like Black Panther, Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain Marvel, and many other characters in the Marvel Universe, highlighting Marvel’s impact on pop culture and media.

Finally, overnight was also the premiere of the feature film To All the Boys: Always and Forever on Netflix. Senior year of high school takes center stage as Lara Jean returns from a family trip to Korea and considers her college plans — with and without Peter.
