Overnight was the series premiere of Monsieur Spade on Acorn TV & AMC+. Twenty years after the events of the novel The Maltese Falcon, Sam Spade (Clive Owen) has retired in the small town of Bozouls in the South of France. It’s 1963, the war has ended, and in a very short time, so, too, will Spade’s tranquility. It also stars Rebecca Root, Cara Bossom, Oscar Lesage, & more. The show also airs on AMC at 9/8c.

Tonight is the series premiere of Belgravia: The Next Chapter on MGM+ at 9/8c. This is a continuation of the hit historical drama named for — and set in — the affluent London district that became synonymous with the upper echelons of London society in the 19th century. The series follows the next generation of Belgravia’s residents alongside a few familiar faces. It picks up in 1871, three decades after the events depicted in the 2020 limited series. It tells the love story of Frederick Trenchard (Benjamin Wainwright), the third Lord Trenchard, and his new love interest, Clara Dunn (Harriet Slater), who is a newcomer to London society. Unaware that his birth was the product of an affair between his mother Susan (Alice Eve) and the scoundrel John Bellasis (Adam James), a troubled childhood has left Frederick deeply insecure, which challenges his courtship of, and marriage to, Clara.

Overnight was the premiere of the documentary film MLK/FBI on AMC+. The film explores the investigation and harassment of Martin Luther King Jr. by J. Edgar Hoover and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, through newly declassified documents. Interviews from Beverly Gage, David J. Garrow, Andrew Young, Donna Murch, James Comey, Clarence Jones, Charles Knox and Marc Perrusquia also appear in the film – the interviews are presented largely as voiceover; some of the interviewees briefly appear on camera at the end of the film. Much of the documentary utilizes archival footage of MLK between 1955 and 1968, the years of his work as a civil rights activist. It is largely chronological, showing a young MLK from 1963[5] until 1968 when he was assassinated. No new information is revealed about his assassination. The last sequence makes the statement that not all FBI documents have been declassified, and that the whole record will be declassified and made available to the public in 2027. The documentary covers the attempts by Hoover and the FBI to discredit King by collecting recordings and images of his private sexual life with women other than his wife. This is to denigrate his status within the civil rights movement for black people in the United States, which was gaining momentum. There is a stark contrast between the thoroughly white complexion of the FBI and the many crowds of black people assembled around MLK.

Sian Brooke (Sherlock & Good Omens), Katherine Devlin (The Dig), & Nathan Braniff star alongside Richard Dormer, Martin McCann, Hannah McClean, Andi Osho, John Lynch, Jonathan Harden, Valene Kane, Dane Whyte O’Hara, Gerard Jordan, Joanne Crawford, Michael Shea, Nabil Elouahabi, Frankie McCafferty, and Desmond Eastwood.

Tonight is the series premiere of Wild Cards on The CW at 8/7c. This is a crime-solving procedural with a comedic twist that follows the unlikely duo of a by-the-book, sardonic cop and a spirited, clever con woman. But while arrested and being held at the station, Max ends up helping Ellis solve a local crime. The two are offered the opportunity to redeem themselves – Ellis needs to get back to his detective post and Max needs to stay out of jail. The catch? They have to work together, each using their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled shoe leather police work; for Max, it means accents, disguises, schemes and generally befriending everyone in sight, while driving Ellis absolutely nuts. The two will have to learn what it means to trust another person and maybe actually become partners. It also stars Jason Priestley.

Overnight was the series premiere of The Woman in the Wall on Paramount+ with Showtime. The series centers on Lorna Brady (Ruth Wilson), a woman from the small, fictional Irish town of Kilkinure, who wakes one morning to find a corpse in her house. Chillingly, Lorna has no idea who the dead woman is or if she, herself, might be responsible for the apparent murder. That’s because Lorna has long suffered from extreme bouts of sleepwalking ever since she was ripped from her life at the age of 15 and incarcerated in The Kilkinure Convent, a (fictional) home to one of Ireland’s infamous Magdalene Laundries for women. There, Lorna gave birth to her daughter Agnes, who cruelly was taken from her and whose fate Lorna never has known. Detective Colman Akande (Daryl McCormack) is now also on Lorna’s tail for a crime seemingly unrelated to the body she has discovered in her house. His scathing wit hides a quiet sadness, and when he meets Lorna, he finds himself forced to confront his own haunting secrets. As Colman searches for a murderer and Lorna searches for her daughter, their paths collide in ways they never could have anticipated. The series also stars Simon Delaney, Philippa Dunne, Mark Huberman, Hilda Fay, Frances Tomelty, and Dermot Crowley.
