Tonight is the 90-minute special The A List: 15 Stories from Asia and Pacific Diasporas on HBO at 9/8c. This is a tapestry of personal vignettes from across the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities in America. The film captures lived experiences from high-profile celebrities like Sandra Oh, to unsung heroes like Madelyn Yu, a retired nurse in New Jersey. These intimate first-person accounts invite viewers to question umbrella terms like “Asian American” and “AAPI,” and instead draw focus to the individuals and the communities themselves. Other notable voices featured in the film include pioneering journalist Connie Chung; army-helicopter-pilot-turned-senator Tammy Duckworth; trans advocate and athlete Schuyler Bailar; activist and astronaut Amanda Nguyen; surfer and scientist Cliff Kapono; DJ Rekha, whose underground parties transformed the New York City music scene; and Haroon Mokhtarzada, a child refugee who went on to become a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. The film’s 15 participants reflect the diverse histories and cultures across Asia and the Pacific Islands and attempt the impossible: to reflect a community whose roots span two-thirds of the world. Their moving stories of tragedy and triumph, joy and pain, illustrate the commonalities from which community can emerge. With original interviews and rich archival materials, the film reframes the proverbial “A List” by placing these communities squarely at the center of American life.

Overnight was the streaming premiere of Lurker on HBO Max. A socially isolated retail clerk and aspiring videographer becomes consumed with the glamorous world surrounding a rising pop star after managing to work his way into the singer’s inner circle. As the relationship deepens, admiration slowly turns into manipulation, jealousy, and dangerous obsession, exposing the darker side of celebrity culture, social media fame, and parasocial relationships in modern Los Angeles. Cast: Théodore Pellerin, Archie Madekwe, Zack Fox, Havana Rose Liu, Sunny Suljic.

Overnight was the documentary film The Crash on Netflix. A deadly 2022 crash in Ohio initially appeared to be a tragic accident involving three teenagers returning from a graduation party, but investigators soon uncovered evidence pointing to something far more disturbing. The film examines the case of Mackenzie Shirilla, who was accused of intentionally driving her vehicle into a wall at nearly 100 mph, killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo and friend Davion Flanagan. Interviews with investigators, medics, and people connected to the case explore the volatile relationships, forensic evidence, and courtroom battle that turned the incident into a nationally debated murder trial.

Overnight was the premiere of the feature film The Zodiac Killer Project on AMC+ & Sundance Now. Filmmaker Charlie Shackleton turns the camera on both the infamous Zodiac Killer case and the true-crime genre itself after a planned documentary about the murders unexpectedly collapsed during production. Using abandoned footage, Bay Area imagery, narration, and pieces of the unfinished project, the film explores the public obsession with serial killers while deconstructing the familiar formulas and storytelling techniques often used in modern true-crime documentaries.
