theflash329smallOn last week’s episode of The Flash, the gang was enjoying a night out on the town at a local club when a mystery speedster showed up to rob all of the patrons of their purses and wallets. Barry tried to chase down Trajectory, but she was much faster than him. The gang soon discovered that this new speedster was a woman and that she got her powers by taking Velocity 9 serum that she had reverse-engineered. Trajectory became addicted to the serum, started dangerously increasing her dosages, and ultimately ended up running so fast that she literally disintegrated. However, witnessing this gruesome event sparked something inside of Barry, and he became suspicious of Jay’s death. Cisco vibed about Zoom and confirmed these suspicions – in his vision, he saw Zoom unmask himself, and it was Jay!

How is this news going to affect Caitlin? And now that the gang has closed all the portals, how is Barry going to find a way to Earth 2 to confront Jay/Zoom? And if he does get there, how does he plan to defeat his seemingly unstoppable arch-nemesis? I’m looking forward to finding out in tonight’s second Flash adventure of the week!

On tonight’s episode, “Flash Back,” Barry becomes determined to get back to Earth-2 to stop Zoom, but he realizes he needs to increase his speed. He travels back in time and masquerades as his earlier self to get his arch-nemesis Dr. Harrison to teach him how to run faster. But while there, Barry faces familiar foe Hartley Rathaway and old friend Eddie Thawne. Andy Mientus & Rick Cosnett guest star.

Find out what happens when Barry goes back in time tonight on The CW at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special, Fresh Off the Boat, The Real O’Neals, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, iZombie, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, and Chrisley Knows Best.

supergirl328smallI’m really looking forward to tonight’s The Flash/Supergirl crossover event! On last week’s episode of Supergirl, National City was still dealing with the aftermath of the evil Red-Kryptonite version of Supergirl and had become afraid of this hero they once trusted. A military task force led by Hank Henshaw’s old friend Col. Jim Harper had arrived to investigate J’onn J’onzz and the D.E.O., and they wanted to know what had happened to the real Hank. And so we got a flashback of how Hank and J’onn met and bonded 10 years earlier. Meanwhile, Kara revealed her identity to Lucy in order to get her help saving J’onn. Afterwards, J’onn wiped Jim’s memories, but at the same time discovered that Alex & Kara’s father, Jeremiah, was still alive and at Project Cadmus; and Lucy was named the new acting head of the D.E.O.

Both The Flash and Supergirl have a much lighter and more fun tone than many of the other current DC TV shows, so I think these two are perfect for a crossover. However, how do you bring a character like the Flash to National City in such a way that doesn’t completely change both shows – i.e. introducing metahumans into Supergirl’s world, or having The Flash suddenly dealing with escaped alien prisoners? It seems like the answer will lie in the fact that The Flash has already introduced this concept of alternate universes. We have already seen the Barry Allen of our Earth and of Earth 2, so where will this new Flash be from, what will his personality be like, and how different is his world from Kara’s? And how will the two team up and utilize both their powers? I’m really looking forward to tonight’s crossover event!

On tonight’s episode, “Worlds Finest,” the Flash arrives in National City from an alternate universe. He teams up with Supergirl to battle the villains Livewire and Silver Banshee, in exchange for Supergirl’s help finding him a way to return home.

To see how the Flash and Supergirl team up, tune in to CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Blindspot, Gotham, Lucifer, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, Bates Motel, The Magicians, and Better Call Saul.

thecatchsmallTonight, ABC adds another Shondaland series to its Thursday-night lineup: The Catch. Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos, The Killing) runs one of LA’s top private investigation firms, with extremely rich and powerful clients. However, things get personal when her fiancé Benjamin Jones (Peter Krause, Parenthood, Six Feet Under) cons her out of millions. She begins a thrilling cat-and-mouse game of payback and revenge, with the assistance of her partner Valerie Anderson (Rose Rollins, Bosch), resourceful PI Danny Yoon (Jay Hayden, Battleground), and newest/youngest member of the firm, hacker/in-house counsel Sophie Novak (Elvy Yost, Oldboy). Meanwhile, FBI Agent Jules Dao (Jacky Ido, Inglorious Basterds) is also after Jones and his team – mastermind Margot Bishop (Sonya Walger, Parenthood) and partner-in-crime Reginald Lennox III (Alimi Ballard, CSI).

I enjoyed tonight’s premiere way more than I expected to. It has a very slick, fast-paced style, with lots of split-screen action and makes great use of music. While Shonda Rhimes is an executive producer, I’m not sure how involved she is in the actual show – it didn’t feel like a typical Shondaland show in the writing. In either case, I’m looking forward to checking out more of this fun thriller, seeing how it plays out from week to week and if they can keep up the same kind of caper fun and excitement.

On tonight’s premiere, “The Pilot,” Alice is conned out of millions by her fiancé and begins her mission to get payback in the series premiere of this drama about a top-notch private investigator who experiences life from her clients’ perspectives when she becomes the victim of fraud.

See how Alice gets conned tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, You, Me and the Apocalypse, Recipe for Deception, and 60 Days In.

"Younger" (Ep. 212 - Airs March 23, 2016)Tonight, the second season of Younger comes to a close. Last week, Liza threatened Thad that if he didn’t tell Kelsey he was cheating on her, she would do it for him. Meanwhile, Empirical was busy trying to prepare for the launch of the latest fantasy novel from their biggest author – an obvious nod to George R. R. Martin and his “A Song of Ice and Fire.” They were auditioning actresses to portray the heroine at the launch party when Liza walked in, and the lecherous author immediately wanted her to be the one to wear the Slave Leia-like costume. Meanwhile, Thad showed up to Liza’s apartment to try to convince her not to talk to Kelsey, when he ran into Liza’s daughter – and knew he now had a bargaining chip. He met with Liza in the city and threatened to go public about her age, but Liza told Thad that she was going to tell Kelsey the truth and that she didn’t care what he did. However, she soon didn’t have to worry about any of that, because as she walked away, a steel girder came falling from the sky and landed right on top of Thad!

What a shocking, unexpected, but totally effective turn of events! It looks like Liza’s secret is safe for a little longer, but how is Kelsey going to take the news of her fiance’s untimely death? And what about Liza – how will this brush with death affect her? Will she finally just come clean on her own? And what about her love life – will she get back with Josh, will she finally make a move on Charles, or will she find love somewhere else?

On tonight’s episode, “No Weddings & a Funeral,” tragedy strikes, and Liza wonders if she should end her 26-year-old life forever.

Learn what decisions Liza makes tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Heartbeat, Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, Baby Daddy, and The Americans.

heartbeat322smallTonight, NBC kicks off the new medical drama, Heartbeat, which is loosely inspired by the real life and achievements of Dr. Kathy Magliato. Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George, The Slap, Alias) is a world-renowned heart transplant surgeon and one of the few women in her field. She is constantly pushing the boundaries and coming up with new breakthroughs in medical science. However, despite her professional achievements, she constantly has to justify her decisions to the skeptical hospital administrators and her fellow staff. And while her professional career is somewhat on track, her personal life is complex and a bit of a mess. Alex and her rock-star husband Max (Joshua Leonard, True Detective) divorced after he revealed he was gay, but they are still friends and co-parent their two children. She is dating liver-transplant surgeon Dr. Pierce Harrison (Dave Annable, Red Band Society), but things are about to get complicated as her old flame/mentor, Dr. Jesse Shane (Don Hany, Childhood’s End), returns to the hospital. The cast also includes Shelley Conn (The Lottery), D.L. Hughley (The Hughleys), Jamie Kennedy (Kingdom), Maya Erskine (Betas) and J. Louis Mills.

This series is a much lighter medical drama than shows like Code Black or ER. While Alex takes on some serious cases and there are some more dramatic moments, the series doesn’t get heavy with the melodrama. Instead, it takes the wackier route, which is why it should fit nicely taking over The Mysteries of Laura timeslot – the two shows have a similar tone. The supporting cast is stacked with folks who are no strangers to comedy, and they help add to the humor that makes this just a fun medical show.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” heart-transplant surgeon Alexandra Panttiere, who’s as unorthodox in the OR as she is with the two men in her life, takes on a new case.

Another episode airs tomorrow night in the show’s regular timeslot of 8/7c, but for tonight, tune in to NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Limitless, Fresh Off the Boat, The Real O’Neals, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., New Girl, The Flash, iZombie, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, and Chrisley Knows Best.
